Oh, I am having a ball watching this. I'm a bit of a bobbin winder junkie, can never get enough of 'em! Lovely, close-up photography on this one too. Thank you!
Bob, I kind of agree! They look more intimidating than they are, once you take them apart and understand how they work you can just appreciate how cool they look! Not hard to adjust at all!
I realized I had not seen any new videos for a while from your channel and it turns out that you have been uploading but its not getting to my feed! So I hit the bell. I really appreciate your knowledge and how mechanically inclined you are. Also you seem to be a natural teacher. Great explanations for everything. Great video!
Hi! I use a mixture of Krud Kutter and water on any parts that are not painted. It just needs to be a good degreaser and you need to be prepared to do a little soaking and scrubbing. Wire brushes work great on cleaning the screw threads as well. I know that some just use Dawn dish soap and others just soak them in straight rubbing alcohol. I hope that helps and thank you for watching!
Question for you! I have my grandmother’s singer machine a 15-86. I’ve been battling trying to wind bobbins and couldn’t for the life of me figure out why it’s only loading up on one side of the bobbin. Well I finally realized the thread guide arm? Not sure if that’s what it’s called is only moving to the right And then it just sits there and never moves back across to the left. So only one side of the bobbin gets filled. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I’ve oiled it but that hasn’t helped anything and I loosened a very tiny amount on the screw holding on the guide arm to see if that helped but nothing, What’s the issue? How do I address it? Any insight would be appreciated!
Hi! I would need to see some pictures or a video of what is happening to help. Check out Bob Fowlers channel, he may have a video on how to service that style of bobbin winder. You should be able to look under his playlists and find it. I hope that helps!
Im unsure what qualifies as an early-model 99. Neither my 99 nor the replacement bobbin winder assembly I just bought seem to have the cam. They do have the cam gear thing. Not sure if this is bad.
Hi! There were more than several versions of the 99’s so it can be confusing to figure out what you have. As long as you know how to use your machine, that’s what matters! I don’t think I have had every actual version of a 99 on my bench yet. :)

These early ones are just so mechanically impressive!
I must confess, these are my favorite bobbin winders - so unnecessarily complex! Well done!

Thanks! I just enjoy it so much, it never feels like work. Thanks for hitting the bell!
You make it look so easy :) excellent video thank you
Thank you! They look more complicated than they actually are which can make them seem intimidating. Hopefully this video helps!

I just answered my own question. Mine is an early one. 1937.
Nice!
