This was so helpful, thank you! I took bits off my 99 with more enthusiasm than sense and could not for the life of me figure out how the bobbin winder went back together!
You just saved my butt! I was able to get the bobbin winder back together after I took it apart when I shouldn't have, and with your video I got it back together!
This is the best video I have seen on the subject and I have watched several. I am about to take on this challenge with my beautiful 1921 singer redeye! Thank you for your time in making this video.
Thank you for making this tutorial .. you saved me! I pulled apart my Singer 66 bobbin assembly and was having trouble reassembling it lol .. until I followed you .. perfect!
My daddy would have been so proud of you! He was a mechanic at a garment factory for 36 years. (my mother and I both worked there for a little less than half that) I think he must have repaired every home machine in our rural county at one time or other. He never charge anyone to look at their machine, but nobody ever picked up their machine empty-handed. Cakes, cookies, candy, casseroles... And more than one quilt from quilters (who made quilts to sale) they really put their machines through heck.
There are about 4-6 different variations of Singer 66 bobbin winders. I recommend Bob Fowler RUclips if your bobbin winder is slightly different than the one shown here. Parts can be found on eBay. These things can be tricky to put together due to the different springs! Thank for the video!
I discovered that the treadle machine we have in our garage is a 66 Red Eye and now I know where I can look for parts for it! Thanks so much for making this step clear! The assembly looks complicated but you have it broken down very well!
Thank you for all your help , if your still on RUclips , am having trouble with my 66 getting the tension and knowing which button to use If you can have a video for this problem would be nice thanks.
A late 20's 115 winder looks virtually identical to a pre-50's 99 winder but let me tell you... They are not interchangable 🤣 even when you've swapped the 115 hand wheel over to the 99. I'll chalk it up to the hand wheel guard but I ran out of time this evening to keep tinkering. The thread guide was the hardest part of this assembly 🥴 I think because I'm following a 66 winder video for a 99 obviously... Thanks for the help 👍🏻
Much thanks for sharing ! Very interesting indeed. M immediate question: how / with what did you clean the parts, please? I recently found the very same SINGER model in my local thrift store, and am most happy to have found your channel. I hope to find also videos on how you took apart the rest of the machine… ❤
Hello! I am sorry that you are having issues locating the parts that you are needing. Sadly, they have been discontinued. I included the part numbers in the video so that you can use that information to check with used parts stores - possibly eBay. I am sorry that we cannot source those two items for you.
I have a 1909 Singer 66 with a worn bobbin tire but thanks to my husband I can still wind bobbins but who knows how much longer. I found the machine in a second hand shop and had it serviced. Before and after I had it “tuned up” the worm wheel was touching and making thread marks on the bobbin tire and now leaving rubber particles as I wind. I think the bobbin tire is too thick and not the right size for my machine. My machine’s bobbin winding mechanism is the same as in the video except I don’t see a positioning bracket on mine. I’m curious would you happen to know the size of that bobbin tire on that machine? Your site gives only one option of the common much smaller size 15287 when I do a search for the Singer 66. I have a couple of those tires and I’m pretty sure the 15287 won’t fit. I do have a simplicity bobbin winder but I’d like my Singer 66 to continue to be fully operational in the future. I even tried some large bobbin tires for a Bernini 811 which would work if I can figure out how to move the bobbin winding mechanism an 1/8 of an inch or so towards the belt. Thank you for your helpful video and your site.
I seem to have a broken bobbin winder frame spring on my Singer 66, but I can't seem to find a replacement part anywhere. Can you help me source this part?
