Wow that makes me so happy to hear so glad that I could play a part in inspiring you. But it is you who have put in the hard work to make a change so a big congratulations for that and keep it up 💪😁
@@goranwinblad Thank you so much for even responding. Your video on motivation literally was the spark to turn my life around, as I started to exercise the very next day after watching it. Know that you are truly helping other people's health and quality of life with your videos, I know mine did. We are always here to support you.
Amazing! 🙌🏻 I also started running at 38 with couch to 5k, then half marathon, now training for an ultra as I turn 40 (birthday today!) I lost 36lbs, transformed from sedentary into running 5 times a week, and started actually caring about my health and wellbeing. I had just entered recovery after an opioid addiction, and running really helped me rebuild my life after a very difficult period. My mental health issues (anxiety, late-diagnosed ADHD and severe depression that began after the death my partner in my late 20s) are also so much better after many years of struggle, and I've discovered a passion for nature and adventuring outdoors that brings me so much joy. I've also gained so much self confidence and belief in myself, and am now applying for a masters programme that has been a dream of mine for many years. Running isn't a magic fix, but it really does give you the tools you need to change your life 💖
Happy birthday 🎂 🎉 I'm 36 and just started running 6 months ago... I'm feeling exactly like you said much much better especially mentally. I'm still working on my first half marathon 🙃 though. Best of luck 👍
I started running at age 24. I was overweight and suffered from physical and mental health issues. Endurance sports changed my life. Athletes like Simen are a huge inspiration for me. Great video!
This was a an unexpected and big score. I’m glad it was more than about winning some ultra, but about human struggles. Very touching. Not just Goran’s best video, not just great for a running channel, but one of the best mini-docs I’ve ever watched.
I got really touched by his story! Very inspiring to hear how he thinks and how he took control of his situation. Thanks Göran for this video! Really like this type of video.
I can really relate to Simen about using running to deal with grief, even tho my situation wasn’t as painful as his, I felt kinda like him, and I haven’t stopped running ever since. Sports is a great copying mechanism.
Fascinating. I really like a key component Simen recommends... to stay relaxed! That's a big reason why I prefer to run by feel, rather than by watch or the expectations of others.
Wow😮! Worlds colliding, i have been watching you’r videos for a while. And i live in Stavanger and i have run that route many times😃. Also grate video as always. Simen is a big inspiration🤩!
First of all, love love your channel and your positive attitude to running. I am the same age as Simen, and I would never be able to run the crazy mileage that he does without getting injured. I think this is where Simen stands out, just being able to recover from the sheer mileage he is doing. Regardless, @Göran Winblad, an episode about how to handle big mileage for the average runner would be extremely helpful.
What an amazing story. Thank you for sharing. Running truly helps in dealing with difficult situations. I started running a lot more around the time my youngest daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia. She is better now, but I stuck to the running🙂
Loved this Video Goran! Not only am I a late bloomer to running but I’m also the Precision Hydration sweat tester in Sydney, so this video had it all!!! How much of a legend is Simen!!
Life experiences do change us whether it’s positive or negative! Life also shows us it’s never too late if we want to change - be it a career or habits and Simen shows us you can actually excel at that change. Great interview Göran- Thanks 🤗🤗🤗
Inspiring story 😍. Similar story here, at 52 I started to change my life, and in a year I lost 40kg, and started to run in the fall of 2022, and this june, I will run my first marathon
@@goranwinblad Yeah, mindblowing. Thanks for your content by the way. It's entertaning, informative and motivating. I started running like half a year ago and I it is really useful to newcomers to the sport like me.

I raced Badwater that year with Simen - he's a great runner and nice guy (race recap on my channel)! ... but, so....he didn't finish first. Ashley did. He's still a great runner and a sub24 is a big deal, but Ashley won.
@@goranwinblad Totally - and thanks for sharing this discussion, it was interesting. I simply wanted to give credit to Ashley - her performance was arguably one of the best ever seen at Badwater. And so was Simen's. We're seeing more and more female runners performing well, but this one flew under the radar so it's good for people to know she actually won overall, 45min ahead of simen.
Doing a training camp in Dubai was a good move, but I would recommend trying Riyadh next time. He’d get better acclimated to the dry heat in Riyadh which is similar to Death Valley as opposed to the humid heat you get on the Gulf. Obviously it worked to his advantage, so take that advice for what it’s worth. ❤
Wonderful human beings ( plural). I wish more people would just get "moving" , running, jogging, walking, it does not matter what, just move it can and will change your life and you dont need ANY of the fancy gear to do it. It's all about consistency and attitude........and REST. Tack.
No race on this planet can ever be as hard as loosing your spouse this early and having to deal with being a single parent to a traumatized child. That's why he is winning running ultra isn't all that hard for him.
What a beautiful place to live. But not enough hills so no wonder he uses treadmill for hills work. I’m watching this while resting in bed after 21 mile run.
I respect what he has done immensely, however, if he began to run for his health, I must say he looks terribly unhealthy. I think ultramarathoners are nearly as unhealthy as bodybuilders and strongman competitors. I’m not criticizing him, only questioning whether the stated motive matches the solution he’s come upon. I’m in wonder of his strength following the death of his wife; I don’t know that I’d last long were my wife (and very best friend) to predecease me.
@@iknowyouwanttofly It’s very well known in the ultramarathon community that extreme endurance sports cause a huge free radical load on the human body with the heart and vasculature being especially affected. Also these athletes have exceedingly low body fat which is known well to cause many health issues. Funnily you bring up models; I’d say they look just as unhealthy as extreme endurance and strength sports athletes.
