This is my first mac, I've always been a PC user. I've had it for a week as I'm starting to require more power for video editing and so far it has exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth it! 16gb 1tb memory
I was able to pick up this model but with a 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM and the nano-texture display at my local Apple Store. No special configuration, so was able to just walk in and out of the store with mine. I absolutely love this machine and am coming from the 2019 16" MacBook Pro. I thought I would miss the extra screen size, but I don't. The lighter weight, portability and amazing battery life are way more useful to me. Also, very happy with M4. I don't need the power of M4 Pro or M4 Max, so like you, I am glad Apple made the base MacBook Pro the made mostly the same as the higher powered models. Sure, my SSD is slower and doesn't have Thunderbolt 5, but again, I am not doing anything that requires that kind of power.
@@minigiant8998 most of the deals from those retailers do not have the nano-texture as an option. You can only get that from Apple from what I've seen in this model. Best Buy definitely does not have it. Amazon doesn't carry nano-texture either.
@@minigiant8998 Yes, but I wanted the Nano Texture display. Amazon and Best Buy do not carry that in this model. So I had to get my MacBook Pro from Apple.

Great video, Noah! The base M4 MacBook Pro is what I think we all wished the base M3 was last year. I upgraded last year to the M3 pro MacBook Pro because the base M3 was such a rip off. But if I were buying today, I would definitely go with the base M4. Thanks for the great video as always!
you made the right choice but it cost you more haha. glad other people can save moving forward, including you if you upgrade to an M5, M6 or later model :)
Pretty comprehensive review full of a ton of information, just as I was looking for. My wife needs a good working machine, at the moment she does graphic designs, PS, Indesign, web browser based Canva work, etc. but only part time so she still doesn't earn that much from it, so we are looking for a laptop that could cover her needs without spending unnecessary money to RAM, extra cores and so on. The base M4 specs are probably more than enough for this type of work. She comes from a 2017 MacBook air, so it'd be an enormous skyrocket leap anyway.
I remember prior to the retina models, Apple had a 1,699 base model 15 inch model MacBook Pro with Intel graphics only. I would like to see Apple do something similar for the 16 inch, an 1,899 model with maybe 18 GBs of RAM.
I am very torn between M4 base or M4 pro chips. I will mainly do light video editing (couple times a week 4K roughly editing 1-2h a 10 minute video), light rendering in blender, and general multitasking. Any recommendations?
I feel like the m4 is enough for those things according to all the reviews I saw. I was also torn and went with the M4, the pro is just too expensive and the base model seems it can take that load of work as well
I still don’t see the logic of upgrading from my M1 Pro.. I don’t use it for creativity stuff. Just MS Office work productivity apps and World of Warcraft. Funnily enough, if I can get better frame rates on WoW , then THAT will be my reason to upgrade.
Great review i might get this honestly you think this would work great with adobe? Like premier pro, photoshop and illustrator? I was aiming for the M4 pro but base model looks promising. Biggest thing for me i wouldnt want to over heat the laptop itself
I'm debating of getting the M4 Pro or this M4 model. I currently have an M1 Pro but, my use is very limited. I don't do any video editing. I scored the M4 Pro for $1,750 and the M4 is currently $1,399. What are your suggestions?
Question for anyone: Should do an upgraded Base M4 or just go with an upgraded M4 Pro?? I’m actually willing to do a trade in for my M2 MacBook Air , just wondering if an upgraded Base Model would be enough for multitasking and intensive tasks even though it has only 1 fan, I always tend to upgrade RAM before storage, any advice would help
would you say the 12-core pro m4 chip is better to get because of the battery? better than the 14-core m4 pro chip?, struggling because I want a long battery but still very powerful, will be getting 48gb ram and 2tb ssd regardless
@ but the idle extra gpu cores will eat battery? Still on the fence between 12-core vs 14-core… another issue is do you prefer nano texture display over glossy? 😅
@@Wunderkinddd get the extra cores and don worry about itttt 😂 and idk go to the store and look at nano texture for yourself. you may love it, you may hate it haha.

Did the same at best buy
After having it for a few days, are you liking it more than the MacBook Air?

Got one from Costco for $1400. Talk about value! Finally time to replace my $2000, 13" Intel i5 with 8GB from Apple Store 7 years ago 😉
yeah, Costco has the base model with 16gb ram and 512gb hard drive on sale for $1399. Heck of a deal!

I'm still using MacBook Pro Mid 2014 :)
Great review! I‘ve had a great run with my 2017 MacBook Pro. I’m really excited about getting this one.
I use one from 2017, too. Just picked this M4 for $1400. (Old one was $2k)

I would assume this didn’t sell. So they won’t.
Is the base model with 24gb enough for adobe premiere pro and after effects?
I’m finally upgrading from my 2014 MacBook Pro. It is on its last leg and just can’t keep up with what I want to do anymore 😂
I cant’t wait to get mine the Mac is a great computer
Best Buy is where I got mine last week soon as that price dropped. Haven’t opened it yet.

why saying its the best value when, someone can buy the same m4 chip for $600 less when buying the m4 MacBook Air when it gets released soon?

return and grab an M4 if you can, you'll save yourself a lot of money
I'm guessing extra RAM too. I'm debating that too. I mean, what's $400 these days, right?

The base M4 is cool but ideally you spending just £350 more for M4 Pro! Plus you future proof it.

Are you still using the 15” MBA as your main machine?
yes! alongside an M2 Max 16" which I really only use for video/photo editing. the 15" is still really solid :)
