Anthony, I've been watching your channel now for a few months now, and I have been really enjoying your journey. As a physical therapist I really enjoyed this conversation, as these are questions any athlete has to ask in order to perform at the highest level. Keep asking those questions, and it sounds like you've got good people in your corner. I'm rooting for you
I think gym work adds longevity and durability. I can't know for sure but I would guess Ezra was bigger in 2021 yet throws farther 2023 despite slimming down.
Throwing is all fast twitch fibers and mechanics. Makes sense that Ezra would gain distance despite losing mass, because he's optimizing muscle recruitment and improving form.
@@cup_and_cone Max distance drive is more of speed/acceleration than brutal max force production (like powerlifting) so getting little bit smaller is in Ezra's case good thing to happen. Most amateur players (and pro's also) would benefit more muscle mass and max force production, just to be clear 😄
@@kallevehkapera3078 "more of speed/acceleration than brutal max force" Yeah, that's why I said fast twitch fibers. My background is all endurance sports, or lots of slow twitch, so I'm pretty well screwed already being in my mid 30's and expecting to develop lots of fast twitch fibers...not quite as easy as the young kids like Barela or guys like EMac who started as kids and carried it on to older age. Of course there are also those who were born with genetic advantage of mechanics, like Gannon Buhr. His long arm is like a catapult.
@@InjuryPreventionGuy to be honest i’m not sure, it’s more of i would want to be out working on a specific skill and playing the game rather than in the gym lifting
@@nixx1195 nothing wrong with that at all! Just know working out will improve your skills and prevent injury, which if going pro is your goal those two things are very necessary.
I’ve been on a regimen for 3 years now, started with core strengthening and overall conditioning. I’ve built up to a full body isolation program building muscle and the benefits both for strength and injury prevention have been remarkable.
so i think ricky has a little more planning as far strength and conditioning compared to most disc golf pros, but that may be due to the deficit he faces due to lyme. idk where to go with that, but...
@@InjuryPreventionGuy Had a spinal cord injury a few years ago. Had some of several vertebrae and discs cut out and paralyzed my left hand. I was able to start playing disc golf again last spring after having to take a few years off.
@@InjuryPreventionGuy I can rotate just fine really. I've had to learn to throw all over again, mostly because I had learned bad form over twenty years ago and got by on strength. I'm learning correctly now, but I don't have range of motion problems with my head, or any pain anymore, provided I only play a few times a week.
@@nordicdiscgolferatrumble9430 no you definitely don’t need to be built like a monster! The exercises I have Anthony and Gannon doing will not make them crazy built, it will make them more prepared for the stress disc golf puts in the body.
@@InjuryPreventionGuy I see. That is something I probably need as well. I have an issue with the right side of my neck that comes and goes as I play, and sometimes makes my index finger go a little numb.
@@nordicdiscgolferatrumble9430 try FULL range of motion Neutral Grip Shoulder Presses. Making sure your elbows come all the way down at your sides and keeping the elbows and hands back as far as you can.
Project: Find the glaring mistake I made in the edit by randomly inserting a clip BUT I didn't find out until the video was uploaded....YIKES 🙈

Guess I need better audio quality 🤦♂️ Excited to be on this journey with you man and helping you out! Thanks for having me on!

I started exercising mostly to prevent soreness and injury. Getting old and would like to play as long as possible.

This is the content I have been looking for! More workout vids please!
There will be lots more coming💯
The best information you really can give us are the snip bits from josh from overthrow explaining things to you
man i hate lifting but ik i need to when i’m playing 4 different sports and having a dream of going pro in disc golf so i kinda needed this video

Funny you say this!! I’ve been working with Gannon this whole off season, he has put on about 15-20 lbs
