Drop C is only a whole step, or 2 frets, down from Drop D. It isn't really that low so you don't really NEED to get bigger strings for it, but if you want to it's best to just go up a single gauge from what you're used to and go up from there if you want to. So like if you usually use 10s, go to like 11s. That low C might be a little loose on anything smaller than like a 52 though. Just don't think "Oh, I'm downtuning, better go crazy up in gauges." because then you might end up with something uncomfortably tight for you. A lot of tunings, like Drop C, really just aren't as low as you think they are. A "low" tuning when you really need to make some considerable adjustments is usually around B standard/Drop A. Also, that guy that said 16-17 gauge strings is dead wrong unless he's using a guitar with like a 10 inch scale length. A 17 gauge string is your typical G string on a set of 10s, which won't even make it near the High D (Would be your highest string of E standard, an E.) without snapping.
