- Breaking Benjamin guitarist Aaron Fink shows you how to play "I Will Not Bow" in this exclusive Guitar World video.
This lesson continues at guitarworld.com
"our bassist mark showed it to me, I dont know how good i can play it"
*plays perfectly*
hey
Several years later and I still wish part two was available
i was into the same research lol :( ever found out if there's a part two?
I remember there being a part two where he taught the solo, but it was only on the Guitar World site. But they didn't keep his lessons since he separated from the band. Just wish someone could dig that up somehow
yeah man i'd kill for that lesson
fluffytoaster427 I’ve been doing the same thing. Don’t understand why they kept this and not the solo, one of the best parts of the song. If I find it I’ll post it here.
If you find it, I owe you a beer.
His sustain is crazy
Oh yeah dude. Aaron's amazing and his tone and sustain.🖤🖤🤘🤘🤘 I also love your channel and videos, man. You've helped me thru my guitar journey since I started and on some songs like this stuff, I really appreciate you, brother much love man.🤘🤘🤘😎😎😎😌😌🫶👍🎸🎵🎶🤘🤘🖤💯🙏🙏 keep rocking brother
I miss Aaron and Mark in BB. They used to come up with mad riffs and sick solos. Mark on the other hand was so talented.
Subeein Suresh Aaron (Bruch) is very talented, as well. But in his own way. I haven't seen him play as good as Mark, tho. Or at least creat stuff like Mark did in Simple Design with that slappy bass! That was so sick! Although, BB doesn't play like that, period, anymore. :/ The new band is great, just not the same...
And the Jazzy-like/Classic-ish rock inspires solos that Aaron used to make were epic! Now they sound too mainstream...
Subeein Suresh I know what you mean I really like the new lineup but nothing can compare to the Mark, Aaron and Chad lineup, what even happened to Aaron I haven’t heard anything about him
Yeah man i hate the new band
Subeein Suresh Aaron and mark backstabbed ben
His voice is lower than Drop Bb
Jajajaja!! 😜😂👍👍
klhdjddhaahfadhghafdk yeah
😂
Drop A#*
@@matthewhale9831 Bb and A# are the same note
The tuning is Bb F Bb Eb G C to clarify
TheTonyShowShow thanks
HAHA Drop Benjamin thats what Im gonna use from now on
1.) Wtf is your pfp, and 2.) He literally says we call it Drop A#

That intro tapping is my fav part.
Well. At least that's the gist of it.
Nooo shit. Didnt learn a damn thing 😂
😂😂😂🖤🖤🖤🤘🤘🤘😎😎😎🎸🎵🎶💯👍🔥😌🍻
It's 2017 and you still leave an impact on us novices!!! Thank you so much, sir, you're still an inspiration, please, rock on!! \m/,
Try 2022
Love this guitar tone so much. Very gritty, gain heavy but it's still got clarity for the chords. I'm sure the EMGs play a big part in this tone. I'll never stop loving EMG actives.
I love the sound of the chorus. Especially that second chord progression. Gives me chills!
good lesson, Aaron Fink is one of those few legitimate musicians left, he will gladly sit and have a chat to fans about music, I love his White Washburn Idol wish he'd used that in this lesson
Love that tuning. That guitar sounds great.
Aaron, idk if you look at these comments, but just in case you do i just want to thank you for giving this lesson. you and the others in BB are amazing!
It was kind of a hard tutorial, but I finally got the whole song down. Stoked!
They will never top dear agony. That album is perfect.
1st pre chorus is always my favorite part
As I watch this video, I realize I can do do this. I am just an old school player, mostly Bass guitar, but lead guitar as well. What a great teacher this is. I hope our future guitar stars watch this, they can learn a lot from this guy.
Aaron Fink is seriously one of my favorite guitarists
Dude Yes Bro Same.
His tones amazing
I need to get the tone it's amazing
I love Aaron. He's one of my influences. And he's so down to earth.
Aaron, you were an awesome guitarist. I'm definitely following whatever you do next.
One of my favourite guitars players I wish he could be back on BB again
The problem with this video is the fact that the song is written with two guitar parts. It was probably hard for aaron to explain all his parts without having the other part being played. Most all guitar world tutorials that have lessons with a two guitar band typically have both guitarists there present IE killswitch engage, trivium, etc
wow that guitar sounds so good.
he really has a full sounding tone, i dont know if its because of the down tune or the amp or what but it just like a wall of sound, good sound at that
The intro thing is so fun to do
this guy is original: doesnt sound like anybody else. and he may not be a big shredder, but his riffage is amazing i must say
Simplicity at its best
i love his guitar tone!
His guitar sounds amazing!
I literally can't find the second half of this tutorial anywhere. was there ever one?
he uses(used) Randall RM100 heads with matching Randall 4x12 cabs. his disortion preamp is the Recto.
R.I.P the old breaking Benjamin members. No one will ever remember them
They don't deserve to be remembered
Jason Hurk you're.....welcome? I guess...not really sure what kinda shade you're throwing
EJ Taylor Yea. I like Ben's style of Music. That's why DBD is my favorite out of Ember and DBD. Ember is great, but it's too mainstream, tbh... Ember was collaborative as hell... So it's everyone's mix, basically. But DBD was practically finished before the other joined. It had that Phobia vibe, but you can also tell it was a new album. It's not the same Breaking Benjamin, at all. Anymore.
@EJ Taylor They were great.. til they authorized that Blow Me Away remix without telling Ben about it
@EJ Taylor I'm not complaining about the remix, just saying they're not as great as some people make em out to be my guy.
i'm the biggest breaking benjamin fan ever!! my favoriye band ever!! they are rock gods!!
“Breaking Benjamin” chord! Lol. Spot light in so cold chorus! Awesome little riff
yup so cold and never again esp
@ItaLyZPlaYa1 Baritones are basically guitars with longer necks (don't know if there's any other crucial differences). I think normal guitars are 24.75" - 25.5" in length, whilst Baritones are around 26" -28" (?? or something like that lol).
The strings are stretched further/tighter since the neck is longer, eliminating the problem of the strings being too loose (like you've experienced). Heavier Strings also come into play, 11s or 12s are the lightest for drop B I think..
i swear, people say they dislike videos just to click buttons. there is no way to dislike ANYTHING breaking benjamin and really mean it.
Optimus Prime
Love this guys attitude lol
dark red. Angry larry version :) Was a gift for my 21st birthday/graduation present. Feel truly grateful that's for sure!
(Plays the awesome intro to "I will not bow") "...Well, that's the gist of it" Haha! Love this band.
Nice tone.
6:27 that melody with the harmonics is pretty sick
His hands is totaly relaxed wen he plays, coooll!
"the guitar is tuned 2 whole steps down."
Personally I think his voice is tuned 2 whole steps down xD
damn, I learnt this song when I was senior high school.
now I'm 27, can you imagine how badass was this song in that era ??
A seatbelt guitar strap! Thats tight
Yeah they're cool straps, if only levy still made them
thanks aaron your the best musician>. your sharing your chords!!i hope your band become an international!!1
I may faint. I can’t believe my eyes. He actually showed how to play it. Almost every channel like this one will have musicians that show how to play certain hits of theres. But then you realize it was click bait and they just yap yap the whole time instead of playing. They say how they came up with the song instead of showing how to play them.
Great stuff , but... is he high?
Yes... Yes he is.
@timijai22 what he means is that in the song he follows the bass player's tapping. I'm pretty sure he would know who is EVH
@noposition I wouldn't necessarily say that - active pickups in general may add a touch of bite, but you can clearly tell that the sound of the amp is ferocious.
His guitar is so slow, and heavy.... kinda like his voice, hahahaa
Well said sir. Good to find out some who also thinks so
Can someone explain the tuning part to me?
He's an awesome guitarist.. But not an awesome teacher xD
Please!
Ok!!! that tuning is like he said two full steps down! your standard tuning would be (1.E) (2.B) (3.G) (4.D) (5.A) (6.E) right? After that drop the 6th string to D and from that drop the tuning in all the strings two full steps down! it would be (1.C) (2.G#) (3.D#) (4.A#) (5.F) (6.A#)
Takashi White G not G# for the second string
Dark_Aves yes, my bad! G for the second!
He's in the same tuning as Killswitch bubby.... C, G, C, F, A, D.
+Ian Luman he says in the video drop A#, so it's not drop C. So it's A#FA#D#GC.

this is a great vid i saw the rest on guitar world's site....the solo was tooooo awesome!
You'd think he's not that musically talented but then you realize he's a natural musician who plays by ear and can make ridiculous solos (check the Shallow Bay soundcheck solo) and you think twice
@steveclarkeee222 Aaron and Mark were dismissed, and nothing has been announced since then. In fact, since the band went on its hiatus in 2010, the only real announcement that's been made is the fact that there are now only two people left in Breaking Benjamin.
yeah it can be nice. I use 10-52 GHS boomers, a lot of bands use those for like drop C stuff while also being really good for some blues and stuff, and it's a good guage for that- be warned however, some guitars will require the nut to be widened for larger strings.
Teaching is not his specialty. 🤦🏼♂️
I love how at 2:18 when you bend the string, it sounds so cool.
It does
I never realised that Aaron had such a deep voice until just now.
@lumsden56shadow If you want aarons tone, he uses randall rm series amps. he uses the recto modual for his distortion sound. on the dear agony album his guitars had emgs but i think he switched to dimarzios after the recording.
@lieutnantEfz In order to tune down that much and not have it affect string tension, you really need to set up your guitar for it. Normally a guitar will be set up for standard tuning, so if you want to go down a lot you'll need to have a neck/action adjustment
This is absolutely priceless!!! So fkn great.
Holy shit, That tone is awesome!!!
His tone fucking rules!
His tone is fucking epic.
@SuperPureawesomness If you havent figured it out yet, thin gauge sucks ass for low tuning because of some vibration shit, theres not enough string to sustain the tone. i use earnie ball strings, i go for the purple or the next step thicker, but i have a jackson and my floyd rose might effect it, all ican say is try it, the worst it will do is throw your intonation settings off and you'll have to re adjust it.
hope that helps, and keep rockin.
sweet, thanks. Yeah, what's his settings? I don't have the head but I'll try to do my best with VST's & such.
That guy forgot to mention that a different gauge of strings is required to play drop tunings, thicker in particular. For Drop B 12s work great, some go to 13 or 11.5s depending on finger strength and overall opinion cause strings can sound very different. A neck adjustment is required as said as well, usually involving the truss rod but not always limited to that.
@rickyjshiznit breaking benjamin is the exception. the singer spends most of his time doing the lyrics first. then everybody will come up with their own small riffs. he'll take them, make them more complex and put the songs together. He is very meticulous with their material, he says he's kind of a perfectionist cus he sometimes writes many versions of one song before he's satisfied with what comes up. that is why i like the band, there is so much quality and effort put in their work.
Drummer didn't leave, in fact he was never formally inducted into the band. It's still possible that he could play with Breaking Ben later but probably not due to the fact that he's on tour with Black Label Society
wow! finally a guitar lesson with no delay.
I love that guitar
musicman always been, and always be the best!
@TheMattNewton It's a Music Man Axis Super Sport loaded with EMG pickups
awesome tone
The guitar was awesome. Now I really want to learn to play the guitar.
I bet you can play like him by now
@@waterproof4403 I never got to learn
@@7792thereaper oh 😞
You can still do it tho. I started playing about 6 months ago. It's harder than I thought but I guess it's okay to be late that not learn it completely
@@waterproof4403 yeah a year ago I bought a guitar and tried to teach myself. I wanted to start with basics and go from there and just life went along and I lost track of it
@@7792thereaper i feel you. Life changes things. We make all these plans and stuff and sometimes it don't workout.
That was awesome!!! I will learn this song!
@Cazaq i think the band would also agree, since tool was some of their main influences.
Tell me you're a professional guitarist without telling me you're a professional guitarist...
BB has some of the best sound out of any band ever... they have somehow managed to have their own sound, this far in music.
I love the guitar strap. damn creative..
now that is one epic sounding guitar!
WELL I COMMENTED ONCE. BUT MAYBE IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR YOU?, WHO KNOWS? IT TOOK A MINUTE TO SET ONE OF MY GUITARS UP FOR A#. BUT IT SOUNDS PRETTY AWESOME. THANKS FOR SHARING
@baadshepherd but if you know what drop d is its not complicated to figure out what any drop tuning is. he could have just said its c standard with the low c dropped a step if he was even tuning to drop b, im too lazy to check what the tuning was
Anyone got the link to the full version?
Aside from cKy, these guys have the most awesome and original riffs I've heard in my opinion.
His voice is soooo fuckin deeeep. I love it
i think Aaron is underrated. Aaron is actually one of my favorite guitar players. simple but awesome leads
wow his tone is amazing, what amp is he using? randall?
9s Drop D should be okay, whole step down is too far though. 10s can handle whole step down and Drop C but certain strings may buzz, usually Drop C is 10.5s or 11s. Its all preference though, Stevie Ray used 13s for standard and it was rumored Hendrix use banjo strings at times which are incredibly thin. As long as your not experiencing buzz after proper neck adjustments and are happy with the overall feel, then you have found your preference.
@risefromruinsucker amen. I agree with u risefromruinsucker. It's fun coming up with your own material. I do it all the time on my guitar and create some badass guitar licks on my yamaha strat.
cheers man! Good to have some guidance on what gauge to use for different tunings. Not so hot on that stuff
What do you mean he didn't leave? He announced it on his Facebook account.
