- Tikal was the capital of a great Maya city-state, one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. Today Tikal is a site of expansive Mayan ruins deep in the jungle, in the rainforests of northern Guatemala.
Tikal became an important ceremonial center between 300 B.C.E. and 100 C.E. and reached its apogee between 300 and 850 C.E., with its great plazas, pyramids, and palaces. By 900 A.D., after hundreds of years of prosperity, like many of the other Mayan states, the great city of Tikal collapsed (although some cities like Chichen Itza, continued to flourish for centuries).
Tikal is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Recorded November 2021 in 4K Ultra HD with Sony AX700 and DJI Pocket 2.
Sound in the video: original natural sounds of the jungle, recorded in Tikal National Park. The roar at the beginning of the video comes from a monkey species called Howler monkey.

Love this video! With the natural sounds of the animals it gives you incite of how it is and was back so many centuries ago and actually spending a whole day there to experience sunset. I felt as though I was transported there back in that time to experience the everyday life of a Mayan. Their cities were very grand and looks like still many yet to be uncovered. Enjoyed both video and audio. "Sounds of the place" are not available in many cases, and it would require too much more time and effort to record them, as you have already explained before, repeatedly. But for this specific video, you got some "local sounds" which obviated background music. Many of your fans love that even though other fans prefer music. Like Abraham Lincoln said, "you can't please all of the people all of the time". No worry. Many of us like sounds AND/OR music. Variety!
You could not have chosen better music to accompany this video, than the natural sounds that surround this surreal space. Kind of spooky to me. May be not when you are there, but it looks intimidating, somewhat eerie to me. And there seems to be a whole lot more that needs to be unearthed still. May be in 5 or so years you can go back and film it again! Thanks for sharing your great videos with us sofa travelers.

Alucinante vídeo maravilloso una antigua ciudad con el tiempo desaparecieron sus abitantes y el viento y los años la convirtieron en un lugar de abrigo para aves y otros animales, son maravillosos los sonidos de la naturaleza increíbles como fueron de a poco adueñándose de cada agujero, ventana hueco cada uno se adapto a su modo ,viviendo en armonía hasta con los monos , bellísimo un gran trabajo de producción, .......me encantó....... gracias

The sounds of the tropical forest are as incredible and mysterious as is the man-made scenery!
The nature sounds didn't match the mystery and power of this site, not a good match. Tikal was built by God not man.

Tikal is an excellent site. Years ago my mum did most of the sites in Mexico and travelled out to the Yukatan peninsula but unfortunately Guatemala was not safe at the time so she could not go there. Tons of photos from Mexico though. Sound track was truly perfect for the footage and gave the right feel for the location. A pleasure to get such a good look at this site. 👀👍
I can tell you if you mom when to mexico, she was most safe in Guatemala

I recently saw some photos taken by my parents there in early 1986 (they didn't know until a few weeks ago that Guatemala was still in civil war at that time!), and not only there was absolutely no visitors, there was no paths, no accomodation whatsoever, nothing that would suggest that this would become a major tourist attraction.
You just see the temple completely surrounded by jungle, it's surreal!
It is very strange because there was no jungle when they built the city, forests just swallowed all of it
@@metrics360 There was a forest before the Mayans started building Tikal, except that they had to destroy it to be livable, by fire (slash and burn), which unfortunately their descendants are repeating in some areas near Tikal, to raise crops.
This is a magical place!
