"A journey of 1000 miles begins with one step." You've taken many! I'm sure this is therapy for both of you, so it shouldn't be rushed. If something doesn't happen in a day, it can be done the next day. We always have our schedules, but things will get sorted in due time. Hope you're staying warm in the meantime! Only 60's this week in Florida!

You guys have a lot of work to do. I was wandering how you guys would handle been back on the boat. Stay strong you guys you got this. Thank God there is no mold. Right the words of this generation the things they come up with, I have to ask my daughter what that mean like she be telling her husband are joking with her kids saying they are special. Here I’m thinking that was so nice for you to say that, she started laughing saying no that is a new saying that they are crazy. 🤣😂🤣😂 I was like okkkkkkkk. Mmmmmm those sand which looks good. Mannn hopefully you guys don’t get sick. It is dark out there you guys can’t see nothing. Great video you guys.
Bruce and Linda Higginbotham here. We’re watching your newest episode. Our hearts are going out to you with going through all this without Abigail but knowing she’s there with you guiding you on. You mentioned about getting a new Vberth mattress and how expensive it is, so telling you what we found for our Great Loop boat in 2020. Current information on it is Zinus 6” green tea memory foam mattress. We got King size so we could cut it to fit both beds. Get the old version. The layers look to be better. Cost is around 215$ Then we put underneath it Den-dry RV and boat under mattress pad to keep circulation going and that is now 165$. Worked great. Easy to cut. Mattress was really comfortable. We used an electric knife for cutting mattress. You could cut the nose area so can lift easily. Anyway that’s an idea. We’ll listen to see what you end up doing. Bruce is healing from his knee replacement surgery and we’re both battling post Covid exhaustion and which has lasted 5 weeks for me 😮 We’re hoping to get back to our boat, the Mer de Vie by May sometime. She’s in Bellhaven at TJs right now Happy prep time 😄 Are you going north or south? We’ll be heading north to do the Northeast Loop maybe 🥴
Thank you guys for all your support! That mattress has been suggested a few times, we'll definetly look into it. We looked at going to TJs, we still don't know which way we're headed.
@@Spoondrifters You know... unlike you two we did it old school... we are retried... empty nest pensioners in our early 60's. So for me, this is perfect.. being retired, my plan was to live on a boat full time so I will ALWAYS have something to do. I will be very busy till the day I keel over right off the deck... just the way I want it. =] I LOVE fiddlin around on boats!
We had a shop make new boat cushions for us less than a year ago. We had some canvas that we asked them to use to cover five sides and they ordered the top material, trim and the cushions. It was around $2,300 total I think. Maybe $200 more..
No worries… just leave Abigail’s stuff in her room… if you run across something just put it in her room… as for purging take off everything you don’t want need doesn’t work and then unpack your bags… You’ve got this mama bear and papa bear… all my love to yous…❤❤❤❤
Memory foam mattress, I did this, the mattress I got was three layers, they used some sort of long staples to hold all three together, so I really felt it was a mistake as I started cutting and trying to learn how to use a new sewing machine to modify the old cover and add a zipper to the new shape. It worked and looks great in place (with my beginner sewing hidden to the back! Like you say, it's a bit sloppy to move and quite heavy, it's also amazing to sleep on and was much much much cheaper than a custom mattress. If I Kew more about sewing, it would probably be even better!
When ever my sailboat had that old boat smell it came from stale bilge water. Getting that out and putting your desired additive into the bilge to deal with that really makes an immediate difference. I purchased the thickest, firm foam from Jo-Ann fabrics and made my new cushions for my V berth. It was the best price I could find. 🤗. I sleep well on it and it's easy to move to access storage below. ⛵ S/V Cork~Texas 🇺🇸
My husband passed away unexpectedly very early in 2020. That feeling of walking through mud? The foggy thinking? Those are part of the grieving process for some people. It's okay to miss someone. It's okay to feel like they've gone and left so much of themselves behind. Just talk to her. She's only on the other side of a veil that you can not see through. But she can still hear you. She still loves you. She's probably right there with you. Grief is a unique thing, but it's not abnormal to feel bogged down by someone's absence.
Remember "Rome wasn`t built in a day" and they had a lot more slaves than you have. You will get there. I think you guys are incredibly brave to share your life and your emotional recovery with the world, so stay strong and make the best of the good days.
Don't worry, this is just getting used to the new normal. Grief has many effects and that felling of moving slowly is not uncommon. Tears come at the most unexpected times and take time out of the day. All my best wishes.
First, please understand that instead of a "V-Berth" up in the bow of our boat, we have a "V-Saloon". The interior bow area is a V shaped saloon. So, due to this unusual layout, my wife, CJ (native Chicagoan) calls the saloon... the "Frucnhroom". =] Because where she's from, that's what you call the "front room" of your home. We also call the cockpit... the "Porch" or the "Veranda"... It's your home, call it whatever you want... but that said, it IS nice and interesting from a content perspective. and a nod to tradition to use and thereby teach (again with the content) the proper nautical names and terms because... History & Tradition... and for many sailors, a sense of pride. And, as you already know, in some cases using the "proper" name of a "specific line" or a "specific rig fitting", can be very VERY important when the feces impacts the rotary cooling unit... =] CJ&JD =/|)= SV Rocinante currently Hampton, VA
MATTRESS: If you went with cutting a memory foam mattress to fit you could cut out a plug the size of the hatch cover and save yourself the trouble of playing "Slinky" with the whole thing. (As always, my free advice is worth twice what I charge.)
Get a wet/dry vac (small one, not 20 gallon one) to suck up the water and goop from the bilge. A tip to lighten the stuff load, hold the item in your hand and ask if it gives you joy, yes=keep it, no=over board. You have way too much stuff and in an emergency it will hinder you. No disrespect but I did skip over the parts of the beginning, I can't afford to witness your pain.
yes, it's on our list of things to buy, we had one but got rid of it. LOL We won't have this problem once we head out to sail again, There will be a place for everything or it it will go bye bye.
We got hit with a copyright issue so we had to cut out a bit of the video. Did you notice? LOL
yea, youtube is pretty twitchy about stuff flaying the background ... you have to be kind of paranoid about it.
Yeah, we usually are. Gotta get back in the habit. 🤪

So true. Your faith will guide you, as in the good book all in gods time not our wants…
Grief, reflects how much love you hold in your heart!
Just cry when you need to cry, it heals you a little bit every time 🤍
Thanks Leslie!
My heart gout to you and your family!
Thank you.
So glad to see you back on the boat. "Rome was not built in a day" Don't stress about it, do whatever you can, when you can. God Bless and take care.

Thanks Gary! How are you guys doing? Drop us a message.
Love that you are back. Im finding lots of foam mattresses on Amazon. Just a thought if you haven't looked there.
Thanks for the information! It's good to be back.
Maybe a mattress in a box, cut down to your needed size would be a viable and economic option.
maybe, we'll keep looking.

It's a boat .... it's never done. Ever. It just achieves a level of 'good enough for today'
Right? Such a struggle. 😅

Sounds like it work good, we'll keep looking for a solution.
@@Spoondrifters yeah I'm not sure I would do it again, the standard foam is so much easier to deal with and much lighter!

Also ...
The definition of a boat is as follows: a hole in the water into which one throws time and money.
right? LOL
Grief is the price we pay for LOVE. Sending hugs, understanding and I hope you feel my prayers. ❤️
Thank you!
So sad, I can't imagine.
What’s the name of that wax you were putting on … it’s looking amazing in there ….
We put a link to it in the description. It works great!
