Even if the game is fine, people will choose to hate it anyway just because it's Funko. On of the most popular collectors items in the market.
Some people have an unhealthy hatred for anything funko pop figures. They keep wanting to see the brand fall like beanie babies did. Little do they know that funko pops have been around already for far longer than beanie babies and people still love collecting them
@@rexrabbiteer The Pop Vinyl figures, Funko's signature product, first came out in 2011, while Beanie Babies first came out in 1993 (seriously thought they were older than that). I think what makes Funko Pops easy to hate on is how they are seen as emblematic of the more consumerist elements of 2010s/2020s geek culture/internet culture. In the case of the Funko Fusion game, it's possibly also in part because of how it can feel like a Funko Pop game should've come out in the early-to-mid-2010s and feature DC characters, and the fact that, unlike Lego, Funko Pops aren't a building toy or some other toy that has a creative element that some game mechanics could be based around, and they're more just for collecting and being used as visual shorthand to say "I'm a fan of this thing." I think it might be a fun game because of its ties to TT Games' Lego games, even if some of the announcements of its development process, such as online multiplayer being the only form of multiplayer, online multiplayer not being available at launch and it becoming available world by world starting in October, crossplay not happening for a long time, if at all, the Switch version initially not coming out until November, then that being delayed to the digital version not coming out until December and the physical version not coming out until March, but it at least seems like a mostly lighthearted celebration of fandom in a general sense, even with the horror franchises and otherwise more violent franchises represented being in it, because it's presenting them in a way that still feels authentic to those franchises even if they're toned down a bit. Seriously, though, reviewers who deduct points from their reviews of Funko Fusion just because it's a Funko game are not reviewers I will trust the judgment of again afterwards.

second, even if it were to happen somehow, a lot of anime franchises are owned by companies not under the universal studios umbrella, meaning they’d need to be paid, so if there ever is any anime content, god forbid, it would probably be some DLC

Yeah, they make Funko Pop figures for pretty much every popular anime. For this game, however, they're probably going to stick with American propeties at least partially owned/licensed by Universal. Yes, Mega Man was announced to appear in the game, and Mega Man is a Japanese franchise from Capcom, but most of the major anime popular in America are wrapped up in distribution deals with Crunchyroll, which might be harder to work out than deals with Capcom (maybe it's because of Capcom not really making Mega Man games anymore?) This is probably why they're using the Legendary Defender incarnation of Voltron, as the original 80s Voltron was made from re-edited footage of the anime Beast King GoLion, as well as some younger audiences possibly being able to recognize that version easier. Mega Man is also not as closely integrated with Japanese culture as most anime are despite originally being made there, which is another thing about it that could make it easier to depict in a game like this than most other properties that originated in Japan or other non-Western countries. And while the idea of the franchises in the game "mixing" might be already laughable because of how far apart the demographics for some of them are (this is why the more family-friendly franchises represented in the game tend to be installments of stuff that was initially popular in the 1980s that has some new incarnations in the 2010s/2020s kids and their parents might know about, such as with Masters of the Universe and Voltron), major shonen anime properties might feel extra-weird next to a majority of more blatantly American properties. They might need to take a few extra steps with making that kind of anime feel authentic when represented in this kind of game than they would with something that's not anime. Crunchyroll licensing the creation of anime-themed Funko Pops is easy, relatively speaking, but having several anime and non-anime properties appearing in the same game together and allowing the anime to still feel authentic is a lot less easy.

I can see Sega allowing Persona 5 & especially Sonic in Funko Fusion, they're more open to Collabs then other game companies plus both series have a couple funko pops so it would be cool.
