Absolutely blew through the target last week with over 100 kg added to the stack and set a new target this week. I'm hoping to do bigger melts and not just the little 2-3 kg melts so let's see how that pans out. If you missed last week's video it's definitely a long one and runs for over 90 minutes so check it out when you get a chance. The update on ingots eye is good news and hes making a full recovery from his infection and should be back to normal pretty soon the vet said. Now sit back relax enjoy today's video and I'll see all you beautiful people next Friday👋🏻😁
Hi Could you do a breakdown of the total value up until the passing 1 ton episode? And I am wondering if without the youtube channel your metal recovery would actually be a profitable business. I guess it is marginal.
This channel is just... I dunno... the world is going to absolute shite, but I wouldn't change my Fridays for ANYTHING. Pure, wholesome videos, that is what RUclips was invented for. No stupid sponsors, no flashing lights... just bloody good entertainment!
Its inspiring really. Every time I watch I really want to get into melting. Just grab a forge and go, and see what I can come up with. Adventures to the scrap yard, great finds, the breakdown, melting it up, and the calm pour. Its a hobby which Ive been toying with the idea of getting into.
It's not what I thought I'd be watching a few days ago, but it takes all sorts of content creaters to cater to the insatiable demand of content consumers. That's definitely a fibreglass coating on the ali wire mate. It's common in many old welding machines as it was cheaper to use fibreglass to insulate than plastic and rubber back then. At least that's what my grandad told me. He is a retired boilermaker. Love the videos mate. By the way I have about 30-40 copper bushes if you are interested in melting them. I'm in Perth so it won't cost much to send to you. Have a good week mate
Definitely doesn’t get old mate that’s for sure. I’m actually gonna set my alarm to get up and watch it again tomorrow and then start next week‘s video nice and early👊🏻😁
Loving these long videos. Today with that stunning sunrise, your adorable doggos and their cute little chicken drumstick legs, the sights and sounds of the local wildlife, the hunt and teardown of whatever mysterious object your find, the melt and mutant slag, to the finished pieces - just perfect.
Hey, welder here!! The reason for this machine and most of the other one is absolutely bc companies are cheap! The other machine looked like a MIG/TIG welding machine though, and it makes sense that spool of wire was aluminum because that’s a common metal used to weld. You’d pretty much never find copper filler metal. Love your videos btw!
As much as I like the Color of silver metals like aluminum, I actually do like copper better when it comes to recycling metals. Plus it's got that pretty fire 🤩 I used to spend Hours manually stripping the coating off of copper wires when I was a teen. My dad would work a temp job helping out electricians, and at the end of each day they'd give the temp helpers the extra copper cable/wire. We lived within walking distance from the scrap yard, so while he was at work or asleep, I'd sit there with a razor blade and a makeshift grip on it and strip for hours. Used to fill a 5 gallon bucket then take it over for some extra money during the week. It helped us get out of being homeless, alongside the aluminum cans we'd collect on foot from all over the city. Some Fond memories of Father Daughter time honestly 😊
Bigstack D, thanks for any of your videos! Long or short brother it is truly Friday when when I get to watch your videos. Glad Ingot is doing good. Also, yes that is fiberglass. Commonly used in the late 50's to mid 70's....was cheaper and kind of did what it need to do. Have a fantasic weekend brother and see you next Friday.
Well about copper and aluminum and their conductivuty you are right. But that does only apply, if you are looking at the conductivity by volume. If you look at conductivity by weight, copper is a lot worse than aluminum, which is why it often was used on overhead power lines to reduce weight an increase stability. So if you have a weightlimitation on your product and you have not a lot of current and therefore don't have concerns about heat coming off your wires, aluminm is just the better choice. However using it in a welder, where also high very high currents are needed, it is just a way of cheaping out on copper...
26:51 That slag has got to be a fibreglass or asbestos wrapping. Asbestos has a fusion point of about 1500C. Fibreglass softens and begins to degrade around 1200C.
fibreglas is melting at 600 till 800 anything that melts or degrade above 800 degrees is asbestos and in rare cases a glas carbon/fibre compound but this is always black from start on and cause huge smoke during melts.
ooooh top point. its not "fibreglass" as that stuff burns away to nothing at those kinds of temps as its mostly plastic. being that its probably a welder from the 70's or 80's its probably some kind of asbestos.
@@Dan-TheOracle right and this makes it really dangerous, not only that he poluted his area with asbestos fibres by cutting it with the grinder (the melting is not so risky because the fiberes stuck mostly to the molten aluminium), it is a big healthrisk. This is why you should know what exactly you are disassemble and melting, electromotors and transformators from the 70's,80's and early 90's can contain a lot of toxic stuff.

I could watch you pour molten metals for hours and hours… which i absolutely have 😂 Love your work, it’s top notch! ❤ Cheers from St. Louis, Missouri USA 🇺🇸
Pay attention, he tells you every video to put cardboard between crucible and firebrick. Damp moulds = boom. You should do a youtube search on molten aluminium/water interaction, bugger me they can be violent. Everyone thinks aluminium is really stable and safe, but that's because of the aluminium oxide on the surface of all of it. Once you melt it it can be as reactive as magnesium.
thank god. Infection beterrr! 😢was sad about to hear that..... thx that you told us a new goal- and if you do the same speed in future to increase that stuff.... we are able to enjoy for the next about 6 years- yeah....👍
Good morning D, I now work overnights again, so I'll be catching your videos on release from now on. Always lookin forward to seeing what's up with you.
Usually, I'd absolutely love it when you release an hour long video (and 2 in 2 weeks, no less!), but I've been so busy lately that I haven't had tine to kick back and watch bigstackd as much as I would like.
Of all the garbage-picked materials I find I'm only stockpiling copper and Silver. I don't deal with aluminium and brass, I just take it to the recycling yard, and then buy Silver in the amount that they pay me for it. Easiest alchemical transmutation ever!
More than likely, it's fiberglass sheeting around the aluminum, which is why you had more slag coming out in strands. It sucks but you're right on companies using lesser grade than what's supposed to be used. Love the boys, melts and by the way, could you send me that Breakfast for in the morning please? LOL :-) Have a great weekend BSD 😀
I think at least some of the aluminum in the coils was to save weight on the adjustment mechanisim. I doesn't hurt that it is cheaper but it may have had the primary purpose of being less weight.
Your local birds are quite loud, but very delightful to hear. This year a pair of Red Tail Hawks nested in a tree close to my house for the third year in a row. They get very loud when teaching their little ones to fly and hunt.. Now for winter the bobcats are back..they hide from the Hawks..can't imagine why.. Greetings from Texas
Hello BigstackD, first of all, congratulations on reaching the one-ton milestone. I was delighted to follow your journey. How about showing us in a video the various items you have at your location to be melted down and conducting a poll to choose what will be melted? It's just an idea I had...
Second wonder of the world , a steel nut floating in melted brass and as I learned at the age of 7 back in 1956 while working on my first car a 1927 Model - T Ford that water was heavier than motor oil . That was some funky fiberglass instead of aluminum . Looking forward to the big CASH count . Great video sir .
I think you’re right. Fiberglass sleeves make a great heat reflective coating around the conductor. Coiled up like that, copper or aluminum would heat up in a confined space and with enough current.
BigstackD did it really take you untill then to notice that it was copper coated aluminum? The second you started cutting the windings I noticed it was aluminum.
Thanks bro!! You have inspired me to get off drugs and got me motivated to clean out my work shop and do something with my time!! Thanks again Big Stack D
As soon as I saw the first cut through I was all " Oh Shiz, that's aluminum again!" I am glad you were able to find something a bit more satisfying, bigD!
I know you won't see this comment, but I'll make it anyway- While I love all your videos, I think the ones where you make alloys like Nordic gold are some of my favorites. Would you consider creating more videos where you explore other alloys, or even experiment, in the future? Thank you! Hi Ingot and Bullion!
It's ok it was aluminum and not copper. I like both. Perhaps copper is worth more?? I loved the little drops you did in the water. They come out so shiney!
Hey just want to say, new to the channel, love watching very therapeutic for me, also my dog loves to watch because of all the cool noises plus she loves watching your dogs get treats lol. I had brain surgery months ago and stumbled upon your channel and it got me through my boredom while I healed. Doing better now and still enjoy keeping up watching your channel. Thank you. From Cape Cod, Ma
I just wanted you to know, that watching your videos eventually inspired my to make my own little scrapping hobby, taking apart electronics, extracting copper from the wires, harvesting individual circuitry, and completely taking apart things to their base materials. I actually have an agreement with my local humane society thrift store, and they offer me entire boxes of old out-of-date electronics they can't sell, for me to take apart on a monthly basis! Doing this, I now have multiple pounds of pure, raw copper, and a cheap little dinky smelting rig my friend bought me. (I also have a handful of brass, lead, and an arm-full of alluminium, in the form of heat sinks extracted from circuit boards) If you like, when I finally get it all going and cast myself a big ol' ingot, and chop it up into smaller ingots to send out to all my friends, I could send you one too, if you wanted, as a token of thanks for inspiring me.
yes i did see the motor melt that was a project and a half for one man.i am glad you didn't get hurt with that one .i have moved those and bigger and they are hard work getting them apart for repair.
i will say i never seen aluminum like that before. well now o know that's a bite of work. thank you for sharing the adventure and information on this. that was very interesting to say the least.
That slage looks a lot like it could be asbestos or something like it. Fiberglass would burn almost completely off, but asbestos it somewhat heat resistant and that's what it looks like. Be very careful around d that stuff. Love these melting asmr videos, the last one was great.
How does it look like asbestos? I've handled asbestos many times in many different shapes and applications. I have never seen asbestos that looks like fiberglass.
@KirkHermary it looks like the same stuff that was used on many of the older ships that The navy and COAST GUARD had. Those ships had asbestos covering the cables, the same tubular stuff, it was used in and around the big motors as well as the cables.

28:55 considering the age of the welder, that slag might just be asbestos insulation. It was popular as electrical and heating insulation back then.
No I don’t think its that. The Melting point of asbestos is lower than aluminum. If the aluminum is liquid it should also have fully melted.
It depends on the type of asbestos some melt at 1600f .
It is either asbestos or fiberglass. Either way don't breath it in

Cheers from St. Louis, Missouri USA 🇺🇸
Hey! I've watched your videos for years, but I have a question: How do i keep the crucible from sticking to the fire brick?
And why do you pre heat the molds?
And what do you do with the steel, rubber and plastics you don't use for melting?
Pay attention, he tells you every video to put cardboard between crucible and firebrick.
Damp moulds = boom.
You should do a youtube search on molten aluminium/water interaction, bugger me they can be violent.
Everyone thinks aluminium is really stable and safe, but that's because of the aluminium oxide on the surface of all of it. Once you melt it it can be as reactive as magnesium.
Cardboard is what he uses he says it in some of his videos
He literally tells you nearly every video to lay a bit of cardboard underneath, I think the whole “I’ve been watching you for years” line was a lie 😮
Aprendi e Comecei a Derreter graças a vc....e já estou com 100kg ...target 1t....show demais !!!!
Great video, can't wait to see your up and coming projects👍🏽
1107KGS!!!!! Again, congrats on hitting 1000KGS from last week.
Congrats from Singapore!
Of all the garbage-picked materials I find I'm only stockpiling copper and Silver. I don't deal with aluminium and brass, I just take it to the recycling yard, and then buy Silver in the amount that they pay me for it. Easiest alchemical transmutation ever!
cant wait to see more melts its just nice to see
Nice to see a breakfast cook, im a 3rd shifter and always watch your videos Friday morning!
Lawnmower will find that stray piece of brass for you 😅
Thanks
Hey buddy thanks again mate I appreciate your ongoing support you’re a champion. Have an awesome weekend mate I will speak with ya soon . 👊🏻😁
You’re welcome mate and thank you for another awesome video👊😁
More than likely, it's fiberglass sheeting around the aluminum, which is why you had more slag coming out in strands. It sucks but you're right on companies using lesser grade than what's supposed to be used. Love the boys, melts and by the way, could you send me that Breakfast for in the morning please? LOL :-) Have a great weekend BSD 😀
Pretty sure that's asbestos.
I think at least some of the aluminum in the coils was to save weight on the adjustment mechanisim. I doesn't hurt that it is cheaper but it may have had the primary purpose of being less weight.
@@Heymrk I have never seen asbestos look like fiberglass. How many years have you worked with asbestos? 0?
I enjoy those 10 seconds of beautiful sunny Aussie back yard shots, BigStack. Keep’em in my guy. And the dogs too.
Yes to the bigger melts, love seeing the shelves fill up. Also, you put sauce on bread exactly the same as me, I like making patterns with it.
Great video brother from the imperial county California 👍👍🇺🇲
Hello BigstackD, first of all, congratulations on reaching the one-ton milestone. I was delighted to follow your journey. How about showing us in a video the various items you have at your location to be melted down and conducting a poll to choose what will be melted? It's just an idea I had...
That would be amazing. It looks like he has a lot of cool stuff stored there.
Loving the Videos, soo relaxing. 1 question does interest me though, How much propane do you go through on a smelt and much how a week do you use?
I think you’re right. Fiberglass sleeves make a great heat reflective coating around the conductor. Coiled up like that, copper or aluminum would heat up in a confined space and with enough current.
BigstackD did it really take you untill then to notice that it was copper coated aluminum? The second you started cutting the windings I noticed it was aluminum.
The second I saw him pick up an arc welder I knew from my own scrap adventures it’s cca
Thanks bro!! You have inspired me to get off drugs and got me motivated to clean out my work shop and do something with my time!! Thanks again Big Stack D
Do you have to pay to get pieces from the scrapyard? Just curious about it
It goes by the weight of what he has or something like that
As soon as I saw the first cut through I was all " Oh Shiz, that's aluminum again!" I am glad you were able to find something a bit more satisfying, bigD!
2ND TON, BIG STACK! -2ND TON! -GO FOR IT!👍👍👍👍👍
It's ok it was aluminum and not copper.
Even your breakfast uses molds! Awesome!❤
Love to see those flames from copper!
I recognize an @altguild notebook cover when i see one. Very nice.
That 10 seconds of your deck view was much appreciated.
Hate that the ice cream man never makes his way out to the new place. Always loved that gag haha
Those 10 seconds are you enjoying your place on Earth and being proud of it. Good on ya.
Graphite moulds for copper and steel moulds for aluminium. OK I'm learning something here. Love the video
Yay, back to the big melts again! Love that giant copper bar 😲 The tear-down ones are my favorite 😁😁😁
I am amazed at how it easy it was to carefully extract that brass from the rubber; well done, brother
Such a wonderful day for smelting. Have a great weekend. See you next week.
(I also have a handful of brass, lead, and an arm-full of alluminium, in the form of heat sinks extracted from circuit boards)
If you like, when I finally get it all going and cast myself a big ol' ingot, and chop it up into smaller ingots to send out to all my friends, I could send you one too, if you wanted, as a token of thanks for inspiring me.
I enjoyed the other large big dismantle and pour from last week. Always fun watching you reclaim good metal and repouring it.
That is some beautiful land, very peaceful. I love it and the great videos.
Nice looking Sammich.
I love the hour long videos...
Love the classical music going to and from scrapyard, store, etc. The sound editing is just great, blue parts et al!
Do you think that's what BigstackD really listens to in the car? I bet he listens to heavy metal and classic rock most of the time.😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Don’t be sorry for anything, we are chilling and relaxing for everything you do, just keep continuing 💪
I enjoy all your melts, but you're right that copper is just better. More satisfying. That color! It's moltenness!
You were up early to begin the melt! Another great one, thank you!
The outside setup is awesome for when it's not too hot out
yes i did see the motor melt that was a project and a half for one man.i am glad you didn't get hurt with that one .i have moved those and bigger and they are hard work getting them apart for repair.
Big melts, little melts, I don’t care as long as the same mood continues!
As always I love green flames and copper! But the drops in the water turned out really cool.
i will say i never seen aluminum like that before. well now o know that's a bite of work. thank you for sharing the adventure and information on this. that was very interesting to say the least.
Your videos are one of the things of fridays that I like the most 😊 Please keep doing them, sir 😄
Fantastic video again Sir thank you for sharing your experience with us 🫶🏻🇬🇧🫶🏻
Sweet this is going to be a great trip to 2.22 ton let's get her done thanks for sharing this awesome video with us six stars brother
I can't figure out what's special about 2.22
@@Nashvillain10SE it's the next goal of the stack two point twenty two ton of metal
@@josephcormier5974 😂 I get THAT. I mean why not simply 2.00 tonnes--twice the first goal? Why the extra 0.22 tonnes?
@@Nashvillain10SE that I think is because a metric ton and a US ton is more than two thousand pounds same with the metric ton hopefully this helps
