My soul resonates with Luther❤ He was the quintessential love song in my youth. I am 57 years old now, and it resonates with me he was the same age when “The Good Lord called him up” Thanks for the memories Luther❤🙏🏻🕊️
Patti labelle is the most entertaining singer ever she be like forget the melody yall finna hear me! Luther is the king of smooth R&b and gladys can damn sang!
Very ! Patti makes you want to listen even if it’s just for one song . She has this fire in her voice that stands out, and cuts through anything else !
3 of the best R&B Soul singers giving tribute to another one of the best R&B Soul artists. If you love real R&B Soul music like I do, this is the ultimate. The 3 singing and Smokey are all Legends
I don't think there's ever been a Smokey song that I didn't love, and doesn't make me weep. Every single one of them makes me remember a moment In my life and someone I loved dearly.
You know, that part got my mother as well!! When this first aired, my mother was so tickled by that line!! Mama, I miss you madly!! 5/22/1950-11/5/2021
I still remember when this aired back in 91', it made an impact on me as a 10 year old kid. I KNEW right then, watching this particular tribute, that I wanted to sing. Haven't been the same since. I remember thinking "whatever Luther is doing to Patti and the audience, I want to do THAT". 🎶🔥🎙 ~Blake
My FACE is somewhere on the floor and my ears are in HEAVEN!! LE-GEN-DARY!! 🤯💫🤯 3 Singers with the most unique instruments all coming together and showing OUT!! No one held back...this tribute was GLORIOUS!!! 💫👏🏾✨👏🏾💫
for me (and I can speak for nobody else)...that was the best tribute to another performer that Ive ever seen. And ALL OF THEM have history with Smokey...so it was a very personal tribute. Gladys and Patti, go back to the "chitlun circuit' with Smokey in the 60s. And Smokey has mentored Luther, since he broke into the business. So, this was right on time. uh, Patti LaBelle?...you are one bad sista.
This is and was the absolute BEST - it doesn't get any better than this - never has and never will! For those without a soul, please note that PATTI LIT up that stage and brought out the best in Gladys & Luther (not that they needed any help) ..........Loved when she kept saying SING! Incredible performance by three of the greatest of all time!
Strange how these people have been here all this long. They are talking of 91.. my birh year, am 33 now.. this means they have spent more than my age in lime light and enjoyment!
There was a time when I was a kid we would be having fun outside and when we knew 8pm was coming we all shot in our homes because we knew the Soul Train Awards were coming on and they were going to have singers performing like this. I miss old school singing I REALLY DO!
Smokey Robinson was one of my Soul R&B faves back in the 60's right from the time he and the Miracles had their first hit with Shop Around while I was a Senior in H.S. After that they had one great song after another and I and my friends loved them to death. In something like 64 I and some friends saw a Motown show at the Regal Theater in Chicago in which they were the main group.
Patti labelle, my favorite lady, gladis night and Luther Vandross Did a great job singing smokey Robinson song as 3 artist on stage ,and whoopi for the presenting the award.
Rare good sangin....no auto tune, no pre recorded background singers...I can imagine what my family reunion will be if they were my sisters and brother...
Luther Vandross, OMG what a beautiful talented singer with a voice of an angel. May he live on in peace and happiness free from the torments and cares of this world of suffering for being gay in a hateful repressing world and then suffering illnesses that nobody should have to in the self-proclaimed "Greatest Country on Earth.
Mannnn when I say I love this right here!!! I love it!! The greatest legends of I seen over my years as a kid till now. I still love smokey Robinson and the rest of the rest of the legends that's not even on the stage with these 3
10:48 and my GREAT grandmother loved your music! And what a blessing that 3/4th of the people here are still with us! +++knocks on all the wood within a 2 mile radius+++

I still find that this is among the Greatest Happenings that has ever occurred in artistic expression. What the three of them did there is beyond all belief.
I agree. Gladys would have respected the gorgeous melody of 'Ooh Baby Baby' more. I love Patti to death but everyone knows that the actual songs are meaningless in her hands. They're just vehicles for her vocal acrobatics & histrionics.
@@darreylhenderson702 Girl Bye. I can GUARANTEE you that I own more & know more about Patti's recordings than you & the other simpleton put together. I actually enjoyed Patti's performance here! But the fact of the matter is that she completely ignored the melody of the song & belted her way through it with reckless abandon. As she's always tended to do during the majority of her live performances over the decades. I never disrespected or said I hated Patti because I'm a big fan of hers. I simply said that Gladys would have stayed truer to the melody. And I stand by that.

Patti was getting screams of anticipation in the 80s and early 90s singing ONE note and entering. She was AMAZING. Still is.
There is nothing that can compare to old-school music🎉🎉🎉🎉
Luther Vandross is the absolute best male singer ever. He and Rance Allen can’t nobody or anybody will ever be able to touch them.
I love Luther but their are plenty of great singers like David Ruffin,Sam Cooke Eddie Levert and many others.
In terms of vocals, I almost agree. You cannot leave out Darryl Coley.
Omg Luther.Gladys.Patti.
We are so lucky 3 legends on the same stage together.
QUEEN PATTI LABELLE HAS ENTERED THE STAGE...
And She’s Going To “ Rock “ EverythingThat’s She Sings!!!! ❤❤❤😊😊😊

It's strange, everytime I watch 80's music live videos, it feels like every artist was an amazing singer 😂
That's because they were.
Yes they are & were❤❤🔥🔥🔥💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
I mean yes
That’s because they were lol. Back then you had to actually have talent and be able to actually sing.
This is early nineties.😊
Luther left his impression on all of us! Not another male vocalist, musician, and lyric writer like him.

Gladys the best alto ever in my eyes
The late remarkable singer Luther Vandross May have left the earthly realm but he will never be forgotten 😀👍🏽🙏💡😊

Agree 💯👍🏼 They gettin down!!! I grew up with Motown ❤ it!!!
This is a wonderful performance. Patti changed the whole melody to the song and I loved it. They each made the songs their own.
Its her.
I don't think there's ever been a Smokey song that I didn't love, and doesn't make me weep. Every single one of them makes me remember a moment In my life and someone I loved dearly.
Rosalind Aarons, I’m know there wasn’t one I didn’t love & still listen to in 2023. Patti made that her song. Gone girl!! I hear you!!💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥

I can't believe these were once in the same building 😍
When Smokey's smilin', you know it's goooood!
That was a very thoughtful, beautiful speech by the GREAT Mr.Smokey Robinson.

People say I'm the life of the party
Because I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
I need you, need you
Since you left me if you see me with another girl
Seeming like I'm having fun
Although she may be cute
She's just a substitute
Because you're the permanent one
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
I need you, need you
Outside I'm masquerading
Inside my hope is fading
Just a clown oh yeah
Since you put me down
My smile is my make up
I wear since my break up with you
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
