the video is nice, but saying only two blacksmiths in japan can make this kind of knife is straight up wrong and insulting to the great bladesmiths in japan. The craftsmanship in the video is nothing special (i would even say it does not seem very good with the welded on handle and angle grinder marks all over), there is many very talented blacksmiths making kitchen knifes of similar or even more complicated construction
This looks like how knives are made, there's nothing special/unique about how he's making them. You take raw material, heat it up, shape it into a knife, harden, polish, and put an edge on it. What exactly is the technique he's using to make him one of only two knife makers to do this?
There are a few people getting their pantys in a twist over the quality of the finished product, it is a good knife that will work well for many years, can only 2 people make this? no, but that line made you comment and that helped his video😀 , is it an ugly knife? well yes but it is still very serviceable, I'm not that attractive myself but I I'm honest, work hard and good with the kids, this guy is a working blacksmith not an artisan bladesmith, look at his workshop, its not a hobby, he does this all day and has done for all of his life, let's see an artisan bladesmith repair a broken 3 point linkage on a tractor, this guy probably did 2 in the last few weeks
To say I was disappointed with this would be an understatement. The craftsmanship was poor, the finished product looked like it was made in a school metalwork class (though I may be insulting schoolchildren by saying this), and I certainly would not want this knife in my kitchen - it was very poorly made.
The finish on this knife is absolutely awful! I like knives with a rustic look, but this looks like a beginner knifemaker has quickly cobbled it together without putting any effort into it.
Yeah, very crude. It's what you'd expect from a learner blacksmith in the west. There are dozens of guys who've been doing it for five years or so who make knives that are real works of art and sell for thousands. This is just a guy in his shed with an angle grinder. Very disappointing.

The handle, man, why would you leave unpolished, unprotected wood like that

Di Indonesia itu dinamakan BAJA ISEN / SELAP
Wakashi no ko, nan desu shou ka?
Borax.
Iron oxide or iron powder is added by the craftsman, but basically, the borax acts to bond the iron to the steel.
@@maryrose6056 The borax gets rid of the forgescale that would prevent the iron and steel from bonding to one another be precise.
👍🇯🇵
Классно

I was expecting better craftsmanship..
I agree. You have to be critical sometimes. It's not nice and it's really nothing special

It looks so ugly, I didn't expect it to be that bad as if it were trash, but considering age and experience, it's worth discussing.
There is a lack of finesse on display here maybe he has no pride in his work . Altogether a very disappointing video .
Probably one of the worst japanese knifes I've ever seen
what a mess🤔👎🛠
