I just tried this knot on my naughty horse.. and it worked like a charm! He pulled to the end, realized he still wasn't loose. stepped forward and waited, giving me this sideways glance. I reeled him in again. he didn't pull back a second time. I'd already had him yeliding to the halter sideways and down so did the before work. I have to admit when I first saw this I had all these worries in my head.. worried the knot on his rope halter would get too tight to ever undo.. or that he'd hurt his neck, tangle his legs, keep pulling til something did break... and none of those fears came to be. Thank you so much for showing us this amazing knot. I had tried a special tie ring that is suppose to give... and that just didn't work for me. he found a way out of it! I am gunna keep tying him like this. heck I think every horse should be tied like this even if they tie well. They can all spook!

I subscribe to another horseman on YT that uses a similar phrase - "If you take the time it takes, it takes less time." - Rick Gore Think Like a Horse. I also find that this is always the case, especially with horses. Thanks for the great tip on helping horses that still may have issues with tying. Thankfully my horse is great about being tied, but the extra knowledge is ALWAYS good to have! 😉
I always thought those cheap elastic tow ropes would be perfect for this. They're about 1.5m long at short but stretch out to about 4m at max, but of course they're self correcting when the horse decides to stop pulling back.
Have you had any problem with the horse stepping over the rope and getting tangled after he's pulled back - say you've walked away and he pulls back and starts dancing around.
Excellent... 1st Teach them to give to Pressure.... 2nd, Give them with the slight resistance (the wrap).... and 3rd, Give them some room to move their feet (12-15’). I use a Blocker Tie Ring at home and in my trailer but this is an excellent substitute for when I travel and a Blocker is not available at the facility.

and if you try this on a reactive horse that pulls back the full length..the all hell lest loose and can damage a horse. Better of to use a blocker tie ring. far far safer
phil vinet You need to watch the 1st two minutes again. 1st and foremost Ted talks about the importance of teaching a horse to GIVE TO PRESSURE. 2nd, Unfortunately you don’t find Blocker Rings at every site you take your horse. BTW I use Blockers at home and in my trailer but 1st I spend ALL the time it takes to teach my horses to Give to Pressure. Nothing is safe until you do that.

You must be so hurt and bitter by something or someone that you find pleasure in giving "destructive & ugly criticisms" (which usually mirrors the true character of the commentator). Or you just never have anyone teach you good manners! I don't see you putting any effort into creating helpful videos on your channel. Your channel is completely blank, with no history whatsoever, which suggests that you took the trouble to create it JUST to make these nasty comments to a hard-working, generous horseman! At least this guy is trying. Plus he has admitted in other comments on his videos that he is not perfect and is continuously learning. He's also nice enough to ask for the viewer's ideas. Make this world a better place and learn critique constructively! What you project to the Universe will come back to YOU! At least do it for yourself. Negativity is not good for your blood-pressure and overall health.

How do you feel about foals left with halters and dragging lead lines? They step on it and learn to give to the pressure.

I just see a hoof getting stuck in there with that much length of the lead.....
I don't want my horse learning that if he pulls back he can get release. I don't tie my horse until they know how to tie.
