  • It's always hectic when 60103's about and today was no exception.
I nearly didn't make it as public transport is very limited in South-West Scotland on Sundays but a complete stranger, seeing me stranded in Dumfries, kindly offered me a lift and actually brought me right to the entrance of Carlisle station. I hope he sees this video and knows that his generosity is truly appreciated.

Spot on Tim with the Scotsman and a well deserved break. I got her at Horton in Ribblesdale and later at Armathwaite in fading light.👍

Yes, the days are getting very short just now but - one month to go and they begin to lengthen. A quiet few days for me now with little of interest on the railway scene but the rest will do me good! Best wishes.

Sweet memories of my Leeds-Carlisle trip in 2001. And my Hornby Dublo brochures during my schoolboy years in late 1970s

Always happy to bring back memories - hopefully good ones. My schoolboy years were the 1950s when steam still ruled supreme. Best wishes.

It's a great favourite with many people - hence the crowds. Best wishes.

Yet another 1st Class Vlog Tim. My wife and I were actually travelling via train (3 in all), from Stratford, London to Morpeth, Northumberland on Sunday. By the time we got home, we had enough of trains for one day 🤣🤣 ..

Thank you - yes, I sympathise. Even I get fed up with trains eventually - though I rarely travel long-distance these days.

Great footage Tim things looked pretty normal given it was the F.S. Wishing you a very merry christmas and a steamy new year.🚂

Thanks Tony. It could indeed have been worse - I believe that there were THREE steam trains at York that day and according to reports the station there was bedlam. We're not finished here yet though. 60103 is booked to appear at Carlisle again on 10th December and there are one or two instances of the Midland Pullman passing through so - the withdrawal symptoms might not be too severe!! Every good wish.

    Ahhh
    Railhead Treatment Train looks nice
That TransPennine 68 on the rear is 68031 'Felix', named after the famous stray cat that now calls Huddersfield Station her home, as chief pest controller. A lot of the younger enthusiasts like 68s because they still do loco-hauled services and sound decent. I'm not hugely keen on them but if I see one coming I will take photos of it.

I'm not really a fan of either diesel or electric but - hey - that's the railway today. I'm lucky, of course, in that I live within easy distance of Carlisle with its wealth of steam trains. Poor pickings over the next few weeks, I'm afraid but as the old saying goes - "If winter comes, can spring be far behind?" Best wishes.

How kind of that person to give you a lift When you said Trans Pennine I thought it was that you were going to say did not turn up. York was very crowded I was watching on Railcam. Hope you have had a good rest and recovered now.

Thanks Colin. It was at the back of my mind that Trans-Pennine have been very unreliable over the last year and I might well have found myself stranded in Lockerbie but it was a local bus service that let me down. I hope that young doctor from Manchester does see the video - he did enquire about my RUclips channel and I'd like him to see the end product of his generosity.
For myself - still fairly shattered - well, I'm not getting any younger - but there should be some restful days ahead. One more visit to come from 60103 in December - 10th. After that, all the mayhem of Christmas - bah - humbug!
      Best wishes to you.

@@schoolshorts I hope the Dr does see he video. There is not much in the way of steam near me either but on Thursday Sir Nigel Gresley is taking a train from York to Edinburgh, I may go to see that. It arrives Deltic hauled from Kings Cross. LOL Christmas. Already shopping where I go and it's still weeks away, not good now they took most of the tills away and put those horrid self scan things in

We're the sign on the front says railway touring company, didn't that say flying Scotsman in old pics?

Back in British Railways days, named trains (trains - not locomotives) carried the name of the train on the headboard - e.g. Flying Scotsman, The Elizabethan, Heart of Midlothian etc etc.
Today, steam hauled specials carry the name of the operating company.
