First! Not all Master Systems had games built into them. I got both my Nes and Master System in 1986. My Master System came with a double cart including Hang-On and Astro Warriors. When you powered on my Master System without a game in it, it flashed a warning screen telling you how to operate the console. If you held up and buttons 1+2 a secret game would unlock called Snail Maze. Addendum- We will agree to disagree on the controllers. The Master System controllers are nowhere as responsive as the Nes ones. Don't get me wrong, I loved my Master System but the pad was not as precise and having to hit the pause button on the console was infuriating at times. Edit* Zillion 2 has nothing on the first game. You need to play it like yesterday. Alex Kidd may have looked better than Mario but it pales in comparison to SMB. Oh and Carmen Sandiego is just awful. Had I got that instead of Rambo, Phantasy Zone, or Space Harrier I would have been lit. Great video!
The games on sms were, by and large, better. Less of them, but about 350 PAL games was enough for the roughly four years it was played. Just 114 in NTSC. The US had 684 games. PAL had 348 nes games. Overall over 1100 nes games. But the SMS had 16 colours a sprite or tile and the nes, just 4 (counting transparent). The nes sound had a sample channel, triangle wave option and, I think differing timbre’s in the tones (square wave duty cycle timing of four kinds), which added much depth to the chiptune compositions. But the sms additional graphical hardware made it an easy sell outside n. America + japan where the Mario craze had not managed to penetrate the public imagination as much and the sms machines were readily available.
This might be the first time I've ever heard anyone prefer the Master System d-pad over the NES d-pad.
Although probably not a major console the Atari 7800s pause button was on the console.

Is Matt trans now?
Yes.
Trying to imagine him as a Woman is hard
🤮
Other games I think were better on Master System than NES include Bubble Bobble and Rampage.
