Thank you for the video! I’m debating whether or not I should upgrade from the Pro to the Pro 2. I’ll wait until your comparison video to make my final decision. Take care!
I have been debating whether to get this or the Google Nest. What a great video! You helped me decide whether I want to buy this or not. I'm disappointed that it does not come with any accessories, which is fine if you already had the original Pro but this is my first purchase and I could really use the wedge mount. You touched on things that I never would have thought of and I enjoyed the different visuals.
The wired Ring doorbells (as well as wired Nest Hello doorbells) are great products. HOWEVER, they don't tell you upfront that these wired doorbells all have an internal non-user-serviceable battery. IF you will be using the doorbell with a mechanical chime, just be aware that at some point, the battery inside will fail. The internal battery on these units are used to provide temporary voltage to the doorbell unit when a mechanical chime is used. When someone presses the doorbell button, power is temporarily routed away from the doorbell to the chime inside the house. The battery keeps the doorbell powered for the 1-2 seconds while this happens. Over time, this small battery will be unable to deal with the voltage drop and your doorbell will lose power and reboot itself. If you don't rely on a mechanical chime or if you use the Ring wireless chime, than it won't be an issue. If you do use a mechanical chime, depending on your environment (which includes usage rate, weather, temperature, etc.), the doorbell will stop function properly at some point in time. For most users, it seems to be somewhere between 1-3 years.

Excellent review, although I disagree with your unboxing impression. It's nice to get 3 faceplates and the wedges included, but those must have generated a ton of plastic waste since most people stick with 1 color faceplate, and many people don't need the wedges or retrofit. I think the coupon makes up for it since I can pick exactly 1 faceplate with the color I want, and not have to toss 3 of them into the recycling.
Great review! Appreciate all the effort making it. I find 6 sec delay before the video comes on is too long to be efficient in detecting porch thieves, a common issue with cloud base systems.
Excellent video review! It would be great if there was an option to disable the noise cancelation. From the footage I’ve seen from this doorbell camera, the audio that the microphone records is not very clear. I like the audio of the older ones better.
Great review! One thing I would add to your reviews is how your original “mechanical” chime works (or doesn’t) with these various models. Not just a verbal comment, I think a video segment would be very helpful. Another person commented that when using a Ring doorbell with a mechanical/transformer chime, there’s an internal battery in the Ring Doorbell that will eventually die. If this is true, does that mean the unit is a throwaway, or can the internal battery be replaced? Somebody needs to either confirm this issue or debunk it. Otherwise another great video, keep them coming.
@@LifeHackster so I won’t need that power box you mount in the chime ? That is only for make sure it will get the right amount of power? Thank you for a very fast respond 👍
The faceplates make sense a lot of waste by providing them all in each box. You only use 1 color typically anyways for the life of the product so it prevents e waste. Plus you’re still getting it for free with the coupon

I think this doorbell is set up for future installments of a outdoor drone security that you rent every month. the drone will be able to locate the motion from the door bell or other cameras. those giving you the best angle of the perps or Keebler elves taking packages if they made a battery version i would get it.. my place has no hard wires for door bells.. but i think they missed a opportunity to do a 2k or 4k doorbell. Just had one of these Pro 2 doorbells installed. The technician said I did not need the power pro kit. After installation I noticed static noise coming from the chime box and also the chime was ringing when no one was pushing the doorbell. I called Ring and was advised I did need the pro chime kit so I installed it and everything was working fine. I then noticed the doorbell itself was very hot. Spoke to 3 people at Ring and got different answers. One told me it was a fire hazard since it was so hot but offered no fix. I’m debating whether to return and go with something else. My main question is do these doorbells typically get hot? I’m not sure what to do at this point. Also..Thanks for all the great reviews!
Why would they tell me it is a fire hazard since it gets so hot? Temps where I live are over 100 lately, but would that have anything to do with it. I don't want to keep it if theres a chance it could cause an electrical fire. What would you do? Thanks LifeHackster...
Is this new Video Doorbell Pro 2 compatible with the original Doorbell Pro wedge kit? I already have the original pro doorbell with 3 wedges installed, caulked, and painted, and was wondering if it is as simple as swapping the doorbell units, or do I need a completely new wedge kit?

I’m just getting the Ring doorbell and have had difficulty getting it to work. Ring rep tried troubleshooting and that didn’t work either. The rep kept referring to my transformer. After speaking to friends who have the ring pro 2 it appears this is a common problem with the doorbell.
Does the pro 2 have as wide or wider view than the pro? I don't want to lose out on any wide view. I'm referring to width not up and down view. Thank you again LifeHackster. 👍👍👍👍👍
There is a slight difference - 150° Horizontal on the Pro 2 and 160° on the Pro... Comparison video is scheduled at 12 pm CST and you will see the difference.
I don't know what I was expecting but I expected more especially that unboxing and the alexa greetings. I switched to G4 from ubiquiti and have it working with alexa using home assistant just seems so far ahead of this.
Hi. Do you have to connect it to the doorbell chimes? If I already have a transformer supplying needed volts can I bypass the mechanical doorbell chime and just use the ring chime pro
Hi - Great review. How is the wireless internet reception on the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 and the Ring Floodlight Camera Plus? Are they strong? I'm concerned of the Wifi reception that the Ring may not able detect at the garage and front doors. Thank you much.
Thinking of upgrading from my original doorbell pro. Can I mount this on my existing angled wedge mount? Trying to avoid have to drill more holes into brick.
When I view the pro 2 on my echo show its shows fish eye effect and only uses a fraction of the screen how did u get urs to go straight to filling the screen when you go on ur echo?
Hey lifehackster unfortunately all my echos show the homepod effect and I have the show 5,8 gen 1 and 2 and that's the only thing I don't like about the pro 2 it's makes me want to revert back to the pro 1.
Great Video. The only problem I have with my doorbell pro II is audio quality from doorbell microphone. It’s very difficult to understand person talking
Hi, Nice Explanation but just asking for one more point, my current bell connected with 220 V AC, do i still need transformer to keep my current doorbell in use or only the power kit? Will the power kit keep the door bell wired and no need to recharge battery?
Thanks for the video. As an owner of the original Pro the cost and features for me does not warrant at upgrade for me as this time. I think RING should have done some sort of trade in/upgrade program for existing Pro users. I agree the video quality should of gone to 2K and I'm a little bummed they still have the fish eye view which looks worse than the V1. I honestly thought they would of sorted that in this upgrade. Also been from Ireland we only get 50% of the features they release too which is bad.
Not sure why the Pro isn’t included in the Amazon trade-in program. I, too, was disappointed about this. But as a Ring Protect Plus subscriber, I did receive 10% off. The fish eye effect is more noticeable when you’re looking at it vertically. Perhaps it’s because of the lens size limitation? Not to mention the technical limits at this price range. At least there isn’t a lot of distortion around the outer edges (there is some).
@@LifeHackster I personally don't think they will. Also we have only less than 50% of their products too. We have yet to get the retrofit alarm, smart lights etc. Really poor.
Thanks for the review. I'm tempted to buy, but I am still happy with my three year old Ring Pro. By the way; my Ring protect plan went up $5.00 to $105.00 a year. Did you not get the increase? Happy Easter! Don from Milwaukee
I look forward to your comparison video with the original! Thanks for the thorough work! Looks like there are some audio artifacts occasionally but still sounds better for sure. It also looks like the field of view truly is just as wide as the original, which is surprising. From your commentary, I suspect I can use the old wedge kit with the new camera since screw homes are in the same spot? Does the documentation indicate whether the original power adapter works or if you have to use the new one, and whether the power requirements (transformer) are the same?
Audio is way better than the Pro 1 IMHO. It just wasn’t apparent at times in this video. Horizontal FOV is about the same as the Pro 1, but the vertical FOV is dramatically better. Physical size wise, the length is nearly the same as the Pro 1 (screw holes lined up nearly perfectly), but the width & depth is slightly larger. I would certainly try the old wedges; however, I don’t need one.
Meant to also say that I’m still using the same transformer (16VAC/30VA) with no issues. Straight through-no mechanical doorbell in between. I use a Ring chime instead.
I am not sure about the wedge kit. The mounting holes are the same on both the Pro and the Pro 2 but there is a slight difference on the dimensions and the Pro 2 has a curve on the back that the Pro doesn't fit well on the Pro2's corner kit.. But I think the older wedge will fit on the Pro2. I will have to check this when I do the comparison video. As to the power kit, it stated on the manual to use the new one on the Pro 2 even if you have the older one..so there might be a difference on the specs.

How many of the red LEDs are lit at night on the Pro 2?
There are only 2 IR LEDs..and you can turn it on or off independently on the app.
I don't know what I was expecting but I expected more especially that unboxing and the alexa greetings. I switched to G4 from ubiquiti and have it working with alexa using home assistant just seems so far ahead of this.
Looking to upgrade my existing Ring battery doorbell that is connected via a wired connection to the Ring Pro 2? Is this possible to just replace?
can I have separate ring button without the camera that works with the ring pro2?
Hi. Do you have to connect it to the doorbell chimes? If I already have a transformer supplying needed volts can I bypass the mechanical doorbell chime and just use the ring chime pro
You can.
@@LifeHackster thanks!
Hi - Great review. How is the wireless internet reception on the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 and the Ring Floodlight Camera Plus? Are they strong? I'm concerned of the Wifi reception that the Ring may not able detect at the garage and front doors. Thank you much.
Do you have any review on the hikvision doorbell? Many thanks in advance
Thinking of upgrading from my original doorbell pro. Can I mount this on my existing angled wedge mount? Trying to avoid have to drill more holes into brick.
Hey do you have a link to your door chime? I'm looking to purchase one and your's sounds good.
Which one? Doorbell chime? I use my echo devices for that.
Can you do a review of the Botslab Video Doorbell 2 Pro R811. I think the 180 degree viewing from a single camera would be a big game changer.
Hi, please could you let me know which mount you used to stick this doorbell onto.
How high off the ground do you put the camera on the frame
When I view the pro 2 on my echo show its shows fish eye effect and only uses a fraction of the screen how did u get urs to go straight to filling the screen when you go on ur echo?
I noticed that, too.☹️ Wonder if Lifehackster is using a newer Echo Show 5? I’m investigating this...
It shows the full view (homepod effect:) in my 1st gen Echo Show and 16:9 aspect ratio on my echo show 5 (which is the one in the video)
Hey lifehackster unfortunately all my echos show the homepod effect and I have the show 5,8 gen 1 and 2 and that's the only thing I don't like about the pro 2 it's makes me want to revert back to the pro 1.
@@WW-11 FWIW my Echo Show 5 does the same thing...still trying to figure out why.
Great review
Question, Do i have to wire it? what if i do not have an existing doorbell or wiring will it still work??? Help
Anoth4er excellent review.
Is the speaker louder then the old pro….? We live on a busy street and that’s our main problem
what mount are u using for the doorbell
Great Video. The only problem I have with my doorbell pro II is audio quality from doorbell microphone. It’s very difficult to understand person talking
thorough review bruddah
I have the original Pro model. Can I use the existing power kit for the pro 2? Thanks.
The manual says, you need to use the new power kit.
Looking forward to your comparison of the Pro vs Pro 2, GREAT detailed videos!!!!!!
Thanks! 👍
Hey Vince. Hope all is well in TX
Everything is good. Thanks for asking.
Hi, Nice Explanation but just asking for one more point, my current bell connected with 220 V AC, do i still need transformer to keep my current doorbell in use or only the power kit? Will the power kit keep the door bell wired and no need to recharge battery?
Do ring pro 2 starts audio upon motion detection without pressing the doorbell ?
Just installed ring pro 2 everything is working except my mechanical chimes. Is it possible power pro kit could be bad?
@@jeffd3044 Maybe they will do it eventually but at the moment for me anyway it doesn't warrant an upgrade.
Thank you. Not all the features work outside of US..hopefully, soon.
@@LifeHackster I personally don't think they will. Also we have only less than 50% of their products too. We have yet to get the retrofit alarm, smart lights etc. Really poor.
I was really looking forward to the HD audio but it seems like it sounds the same
It is a bit better.
Personally, I think it’s a lot better. I’m sure the quality of your WiFi & power connections make a difference.
Great video, well, they all are. Can you tell me where I get the digital coupon for the face plate, I did not see one in the box.
Supposedly, it will be emailed to us. I haven't received mine yet.
@@LifeHackster thank you...so far I have received two emails for a free sign.
Thanks for the review. I'm tempted to buy, but I am still happy with my three year old Ring Pro. By the way; my Ring protect plan went up $5.00 to $105.00 a year. Did you not get the increase?
Happy Easter!
Don from Milwaukee
I haven't checked.. I guess, they have to add those misc. fees like in our cable bill :( Thank you.
@@LifeHackster, I am sure it has to do with Amazon buying Ring too. Amazon CO needs more income to increase his zillion dollar wage......
Can you review new Solar Wall Light next ? It just came out couple days ago.
Yes.. pretty soon.
Does this come with any screw drivers or tools? :)
Is the motion detection range on the pro 2 further than that on the ring battery plus due to being wired or the same?
How can I install pro 2 with this without pre existing doorbell? Can you share the link of the video. Thanks 🙏.
I still have to make this video.
