I'm literally replying like 2-3 years later lmao but I got a weird urge to watch this scene and I was scrolling through and saw this comment. Penguins, at least emperor penguins, will lose their feathers late and even regrow their baby feathers if something went wrong during the incubation process. That's why he has more baby feathers now than he did at the end of the first movie. People always said Gloria was a p€d0 because Mumble still has baby feathers but in fact, Mumble and Gloria are the same age. So even if an emperor penguin loses it's feathers after having them much longer than the others, there's a possibility that the feathers will regrow to make sure the penguin's body is fully ready to lose the feathers.
