I want one too! The best selling point Kraken has is the excitement the two of you have. Being experienced sailors and yet so excited about this sailing yacht tells me a lot. This plus the stories and the robustness of the hull sold me. I don't know how to sail but I would buy this boat and hire someone to teach me. Teach me on my own forever yacht. I love it. Thank you, all of you, and be safe.

..... so is this where one says that Adam is like a kid in a candy store, "can I, can I" .... had to laugh about Adam's reaction when asked if he would like to drive ... Khiara you sure are scrutinizing things too, the unencumbered flat deck that is so inviting, that is one thing I also look for over the master cabin on center cock pits. That sure is ingenious having the fueling caps raised, brilliant ..... Ace how you plugged Precision Khiara, kinda partial to them myself since they are on the Island where I grew up .... it seems like you both have more than the preverbal "one foot itus" at this stage .... if you had that gem of a SV you would be doing laps around the Atlantic .... cannot go without commenting on Adam driving and attaining 11 knots .. chuckling .... thx for sharing ... and as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ...

I know that the Kraken 50 is modern and has the best of everything and is a beautiful boat. Having said that, your boat Mili has much prettier lines, better character and much more personality than the Kraken. I guess I am just old fashioned as I feel the same about motorcycles and cars also.I am glad you had fun though.

    • @manfredschmalbach9023
      @manfredschmalbach9023 3 года назад +4

Plus: Going _really fast_ with the old crap no one believes it could do any of it, be it a motorcycle, a vintage passenger car (Alfa's Giulia comes to mind) or be it an elder sailing yacht like Mrs Mildred "Mili" Falcon, will, at the end of the day still bring much much more fun and respect and satisfaction than going average speeds with an average up-to-date vehicle or vessel.
You need excellent seamanship plus that certain little defiance of death to let Mrs Mildred Falcon fly like a Dragon-mistress in heat.
While You need just particularly more green bucks than other people to get aboard Your own Kraken 50.
Yes, probably nice, but utterly boring.
Go racing in something not meant to race, and You will have a ball all day and all night long, for many, many months and years to come.
Took me a while to recognize, but when I won my first regatta aboard a nearly hundred year old wooden Dinghi with wooden mast and stained cotton sails in between a lot of modern shiny Tupperwarez with alu rig and aramid foils for sails by simply not reefing at all because I knew how I rebuilt my mast was the key moment to rid myself of all pretentious high performance gear or boats.
Most fun is doing things no one would try aboard a proper boat Yourself aboard utter junk.

@@manfredschmalbach9023 The owner of Kraken started it because no current makers were up to his safety standards for blue water, especially regarding the keel and rudder. But he also says that if you go back so some older boats, 30 years old or so, you can get the integrated keels and protected rudder he requires for safety. He just wanted it in a newer package with updated amenities is why he started Kraken. So you can find the safety he offers without being rich. You just have to be willing, as you said, to forego a lot of the modern gadgets and play pretties.

The thing that amazes me about Kraken yachts isn’t that they thought of everything as a experienced sailer turned designer SHOULD have thought of everything. What surprises me is WHY OTHER designers didn’t. Many really poorly designed and manufactured production boats were designed by sailers who all had many years worth of sailing. (I think the problem is most were yacht club sailing/racing sailers and what works on a boat designed to win the weekend yacht club regatta doesn’t translate to a blue water cruising boat. (Or at least the BUYERS they were designing for were racers)

Great series on a beautifully practical sailing vessel. "Kraken" have got it so right. Question: At what stage, or what length, would a "Kraken" design sailing vessel need to incorporate a ketch rig? As an aside does Adam practice navigation checks using old analogue methods such as using a Sextant and Chronometer for position fixing? GPS/GNSS is great, it happens rarely, but sometimes it is susceptible to spoofing as well the possibility of deliberate error being introduced to GPS causing signals being degraded. This can happen without warning, particularly during international crises. Cheers and beers.

A late comment - but with 90K subscribers, this has to be great advertising for what is undeniably one of the great bluewater cruisers. Smart move by Dick to get this out here. Another comment on the Kraken, it is good to davits. So many builders putting dingy garages on sailing yachts. How to turn a 50 footer into a 45 footer in my opinion. A bit like Adam I have my ideal yachts, I have been attracted to a Hallberg Rassy or Amel but the Kraken would make me think twice. Where did I put that lottery ticket?

Guys it is nice to see you in Istanbul, and the marina that I kept my old boat. It is always fun to sail in Istanbul. Always good wind but flat seas. .When you cross Marmara from South to North, then you will have same nasty waves (different than many seas) I hava a question for you. I can not afford a Kraken. And I will buy a new boat and I feel have to go for a production boat (sadly) as I need to buy a 50ft for the large family. I really need your advice. All I care is still safety, stifness, though I am going for a production boat. I will go for Hanse 508 or a Bavaria c50. What do you think? Yes mostly for Mediterranean Sailing. This sea should not be overlooked. Or any other suggestions for this price range.?

This boat would be so much better if they took those ghastly davits off and added an arch like the Allures 45.9 which becomes the davits and supports solar panels, wind and all the other modern gizmos. Look carefully and you'll already see rust stains in the turnbuckle threads on the uppers. This questions the choice of stainless steel for this model range. Not that thrilled at the deck salon / chart table position. The on-order Allures is vastly superior! Don't forget this is a lightly loaded test sail. It needs to be fast to sail OK when really going blue water sailing and fully loaded. Every boat takes a couple of days to grow on you or not. This looks like one of those that's in need of a test sail of a few days to form your own opinion.

Loads of very complimentary comments about the 50 below, but that's quite a big boat for a couple to handle, and its 'quite' a lot of money 😬 by most standards - any chance of Kraken offering a 44, and if not, could you have a word with Dick for me as surely that is the perfect size for a couple...?

On it’s side and the props stop but it keeps filming. Lots easier than fighting it while you manually turn the props off.

The mavic definitely does. The phantom I’m not sure. It’s a lot of drone to wrestle with. The upside for the phantom is that you have something to grab onto and get control of it when trying to land underway. Trying to pluck the mavic out of the air from a moving platform is a good way to slice a finger open 😬

The power of joined up thinking. If it needs doing use a bit of common sense but if it doesn’t, don’t do it just because it looks pretty. I love it. All the best. Mike in Sheffield.

This is a beautiful boat. If I could afford a brand new boat this would be high on my list. One thing I noticed, though, is the radar is mounted on or above the spreader rather than centered on the mast.I haven't seen that before. Is that for a better signal ? Just curious.

I believe if you get the 60’ you can get a much more automated rigging system. That’s the way for you to go!!

I have really enjoyed Millennial's interaction with Kraken. I have fallen for this 50 footer, she is a real beauty. I honestly have never seen a boat that has everything but I believe this is close. I am going to get on one and find out first hand. I just can't get this boat out of my mind. I just know what it would be like to cruise with her. Love these posts , well done.

I’m not prepared for when they have to drag Adam off the boat! Seriously, that’s one vessel that just begging to disappear into the great blue yonder with a very happy crew! Dick, you sir have raised the mark so high. Thank you. Safe travel, feisty winds and great sailing seas!

That is a beautiful yacht. I am amazed at how fast she is.
And you two were like kids in a candy shop. Your excitement about this yacht is infectious. I was smiling just as much as you guys just watching the video.

looking at it from a boat builders perspective, it must be good to have experienced sailors on board, that dont know the boat or systems, because that way everything is new to you, so if you can find things and learn where everything is, then so too can the new owners, so from your reactions they can see how the boat will come across to the new owner, and maybe streamline the handover to them, just by seeing the questions you ask of things you struggle with, after all doing sea trials with a crew that know every system on the boat because they wer involved in the design and build, must be different to doing sea trials with omeone who doesnt know all the systems, it will give a better evaluation of how it will be for the new owners.
