- Each year, brown bears experience a changing set of circumstances. They must cope with sporadic runs of salmon and navigate encounters with other bears who want access to the same resources. Female bears not only must adapt to these conditions, but also protect their offspring at the same time.

I loved Holly's story of her adoption of bear 503! I watched the story in a different video. Bear 402 was 503's mama, but she went into estrus and mated with another bear. She may have been afraid that the male bear would kill him. Who knows, but bear 503 was left to fend for himself until he met Holly and 719. She adopted him and raised him. The video that I watched actually showed Holly even nursing 503 and 719. She took him in as if he were her own! 503 and 719 grew to be very close to each other! It's a great story! Holly is my favorite mama bear and 503 is my favorite "cubby!" Thanks!!!
It is definitely an incredible story. Hope I can find that video. Thank you for letting us know about it. Have a beautiful day. ✌️❤️😁

Thank you Mike for another great bear video. Thank you Explore for the opportunity to view these bears in their natural habitat. I have been watching these cams from day one. I love how knowledgeable and passionate Mike is about the bears. As one of many Katmai viewers, I can really relate to Mike. I love these profiles so much! I knew some wonderful things about Holly, but now I know even more! She is an amazing Momma Bear! Love the Toasted Marshmallow description. That is so perfect for her colouring!!
she is beautiful & huge!
Is she already hibernating this year? Not sure I've seen her recently on the live cam. 🤔
She usually hangs out on the spit this time of year, and the camera that points to this spit is off due to the lower river seasonal camera outage. You're most likely to see her on the river watch cam, but I don't think she's been spotted there recently.
@@ExploreLiveNatureCams Thank you!
I miss you, Holly. Sorry you didn't make it back for the 2024 season. The falls are not the same without you.
I miss you Holly. Sorry you didn't make it back for the 2024 season. Maybe you were needed to take care of Little One.
Good mama bear!
Nice
Is she still alive? She must be super old by now if she was entering adulthood in 2001. Like 30 years old or something
And why dont bears ever eat the birds around them?
She Is! She was seen this fall. Often the birds are too hard to catch but bear 903 "Gully" has been known to eat a gull or two!
What a great mom and beautiful role model.
Love this series!
how did she adopt the cub?
It wasn't done in front of the cameras and it is rare so they don't know for sure. They speculated he just happened to approach them at an opportune time, wasn't a threat, and maybe just started to trail them. Holly with her age and experience raising cubs was a lucky choice for him I guess.
Wow 👍 Wonderful 👍!
Holly aka < by me> as Super Mom
How long do they rear their cubs?
Brown bears in Katmai usually keep their cubs through two or three summers. Family breakup happens in mid to late spring when the mother bear begins her estrous cycle and becomes receptive to mating again.
What’s up with the interesting yet crazy names ? ( better observation) ?
The bears are actually numbered but the Rangers nickname some of them along with their numbers.
A lovely tribute to an amazing Mama Bear
Isn’t Holly Velcro’s mom?
I think you are thinking of another prominent adult female bear at Brooks River, 273. She returned this year with three spring cubs, representing her second known litter.
❤️
i just love these! Thanks so much!!
😘 Holly bear 🐻
