Great batrep winters, awesome to see a decent deathwatch list on a batrep, the few existing DW batreps have awful list and not interesting to watch. Excellent work 👌
perfect match. Love the setting. I'm currently working on making a depot myself. some larger heavy duty pallets that the ministorum stuff gets shipped off world, and smaller wood and plastic pallets for local goods that don't go out of atmo.
This has to be one of, if not the best bat-reps I have watched, really close and interesting game. It's refreshing to see a good Deathwatch list and I'm looking forward to finally finishing my 1k of them, and the Tyranids with their psyonic prowess was a really interesting list too, I may have to buy some 'thropes for my limited nids army myself.
I love how much of a good sport Winters is. I just started playing Farsight Enclaves in 8e and I feel that watching these battle reports has shaped my good sportsmanship as a beginner player. The other day, for instance, I was decimated by Ynnari with a smile. :)
Oh yeah it is, I run a entire army of Primaris Deathwatch and it's insane. Never expected the Bolter Beta rule so it was huge for me, my army was built before CA came out so those buffs made my army insane.
@@lizgayle14 Oh yeah, the local games workshop by me pretty much considers me to have two terrifying armies with my Primaris Deathwatch and my pure Custodes.

Played a game the other day with the beta rules. Two 10 man intercessor squads putting out 20 shots at 30" wounding on 2's, and rerolling 1's (depending on tactic active) made them a very credible threat putting out a lot of wounds at range. Primaris are the big winners for the DW here, as the vet squads still rely on their special weapons to be a big threat, but that's why you're taking Vets anyways. Bikes and terminators are pretty solid now too of course, but I don't normally field them because of their cost.
@@koinzellthegrayed7860 keep in mind, a biker has 2 Life points and effectively a storm-bolter. they bank 25 points now, wich is, compared to two Bolter-vets 5 points cheaper. They move further with their bikes, have higher resistance and always benefit from the Beta-Bolter rules. There's in fact not a single reason to use Veterans if you can bring these bad boys when it comes to bolter-output. Otherwise, more Intercessors is usually the best answer when it comes to powering up a Deathwatch army. Screw the fancy toys, overpriced Vet-Squads and just go with the new, shiny Primaris Boys that show them old dogs how it's done.
@@irathiellayne5417 That's a good take actually. I'll see what I can about gearing up some Bikes with power weapons and stuff, and field a lot (I have nearly 20 bikers!) along with some intercessors. Just need some decent heavy support options. Maybe more Hellblasters?
Just a Deathwatch suggestion, since you already have separate units of 5 vets, instead of taking separate units of 5 bikes, you can take the 5 bikes as a part of the 5 vet units for a 10 man squad. Then, at the beginning of the game, you can use the Space Marine ability to split the units up... except now, the bikes are still technically from a troop squad, retain the troop battlefield role, and therefore have ObSec essentially for free. I liked the variation in the units, but I find that a terminator with storm bolter, and either power axe or maul, is almost a necessity in every vet squad, to 1) provide at least a little punch if charged, 2) provide immunity to morale, and most importantly 3) to eat any AP0 fire at the unit. Vanguard Vets are right behind them in necessity, just so when you're inevitably charged, you can fall back and not miss out on a round of glorious Deathwatch shooting. These two models should be in almost every vet squad, unless they have some sort of specialized role that doesn't care about these elements.
My only problem with taking the Bikers as part of the Veteran squad is that you cannot give the squad a Storm Shield or Storm Bolter. Without the Storm Shield on the Sergeant, I find the durability of the squad to be a bit lacking.
Great choice to use full broods of Zoanthropes, I have used them as a staple of my lists since the codex came out. They have a very limited role, but work as an excellent distraction.
That's where it becomes gross mixing 4 storm shields for the 3++ wound soakers, a bike, a vanguard vet and a term or 2. So many rules for a squad of 10 making them so versatile
@@Internetbutthurt Not broken I think, as in practice it rarely comes into effect. It just stops the Deathwatch firepower from being completely shut down. They have one of the most expensive basic troops choices in the game, so every unit that is stuck in combat is a big deal for them.

The Toxicrene has a melee weapon that lets him fight first in the fight phase. So as the DW started fighting with another unit, the Toxicrene could attack that shielded character. The Tyranid Prime has lash whip and bonesword, a weapon that lets you fight even if you "died" earlier in the fight phase so there is no point on spending CPs to atack first. Lots of people pointing out the S7 wounding of 4's, the scything talons rerolling hits of 1 and Kevin's missed chance at vengeance, but another bit to add is all the negative moral modifiers going on. Don't forget that The Horror also is -1 moral, that would have made a difference in the Genestealer's assault.
