One of the most recognizable F1 cars in history. And really angry DFV sound, Love it! As a personal note, I had this car as a Transformer toy when I was a kid in 80's :)
@@chriscoolTV I think that you follow the v10 age as i did and for all of us that love racing cars can't deny v10 is mindblowing anyway. But i admire the bass sound these 70's and 80's cars. PS: I'm not a fluent english speaker. Sorry my mistakes.
Beautiful car. Remember seeing Laffite and Pironi wanging them round Brands in 1980. Ducarouge created something really great out of the box but the team lacked the wherewithal to really develop it.
Turns out he was cheating. At least, that’s the story according to Giorgio Piola. In fact, the Ligiers were fast all the way through to the end of the 1981 season, by which time they were using the Matra engine. The 1982 car, the JS19, was not a success.
One of the most striking and beautiful Formula 1 cars of the late 70's and early 80's. He ended up being honored in the first animated series of the Transformers as the Autobot Mirage that had the same shape and color pattern as this Ligier. Even its emblematic sponsor was reproduced, changing only the letter G for C
Went to Watkins Glen in the late 1970s for F1 racing. The Ligier cars sounded different fron the other Cosworth powered cars for some reason. I thought the Ligier sounded "better," if that makes any sense.
FYI, the 1980s Transformer Mirage was not based on this particular race car model but rather on the 1979 JS11. The key visual difference was that the 1979 had an exposed engine (like the toy), while this 1980 model had the body wrap around the engine and only left the top of the air cleaner boxes visible.
Ho avuto la fortuna di vederla in azione in diversi G.P. all'epoca ma la piu' emozionante "per me"rimane la Ligier Matra v12 con alla guida Jacques Laffite
Personally, I think no other F1 engine beats the sound of a Cosworth DFV. Perfect balance between low end throaty growl and high rev whine. Close second are the '80s turbo engines. Today's engines...terrible.
That was F1 in the 70's and 80's. Add to that the Ferrari flat 12, Matra V12, Renault V6 turbo and Alfa Romeo V12... Back then you could tell what car was coming from the sound of it and they were all different shapes.
I remember reading that after winning some races the team forgot how to set up the car. The calculations were written down somewhere but no one could find them.
Great stuff. I had the privilege to see this fantastic car twice in my country. 1979 F1 Brazilian GP, Laffite and Depailler (first and second in the end of the race) and 1980 F1 Brazilian GP, Laffitte and Pironi. Both races took place in the old Interlagos, with almoast 8 km. The sound of the Ford Cosworth V8 3L is music. The song of the Matra V12 engine that Ligier used from 1976 until 1978 and 1981 and 1982 was amazing as well. Thanks for uploading this video.
Ligier switched to the Cosworth DFV V8 for both the 1979 season, with the JS11, and the 1980 one, with the JS11/50. The Matra V12 was used in 1976-78 and then again in 1981 and 1982
At Ligier they had some of their Ford Cosworth exhaust system modded to have it sounding similarly to the crazy Matra V12 ! The stock FordCosworth V8 sounded harsher yet not that sharp and musical. If you do compare this video to another one featuring a stock Ford Cosworth some difference could be there....Just a better sound however...

HERE COMES MIRAGE SPEEDING DOWN THE TRACK
This is the real sound that a F1 car should make.
V10 @20.000 rpm is the true F1

Oui
V6 Hybrid sounds better than this V8. If you want to say about the sounds, go to a F1 V10 video

Fantastic to see and hear, good memories.
RIP Guy Ligier
How to reduce costs in F1: make them use DFV’s!
Beautiful car. Remember seeing Laffite and Pironi wanging them round Brands in 1980. Ducarouge created something really great out of the box but the team lacked the wherewithal to really develop it.
I was there too! My first ever Grand Prix....

The Cosworth V8 in my opinion puts out one of the most beautiful engine sounds/exhaust notes there is!
This Is Where TRANSFORMERS Autobot Mirage Gets His Alternate Mode From.
Ligier JS11 is one of my favolite F1 car. I'm so grad to see this video. Thank you for upload.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
Such a beautiful F1 car.
Damn just found out that Stirling moss passed away yesterday, Rip to one of the greatest
Hermoso sonido y hermoso auto para mi el mas lindo año de F1 1980 y los pilotos unos verdaderos maestros al volante...

So much ground effect the chassis actually twisted going down the straight, know what she ran in '79?
This footage literally rivals anything ESPN or Sky does for races. Keep crushing it, Boz.
Thanks a lot for the vvery kind comment, dude :)
Reminds Me about Transformers G1 Mirage
its the same car
I think this was the best F1 engine sound.....nice video, wonderfull car!
Thanks!
Mirage knows his shit
Nothing beats the snarl of a Cosworth DFV...
Everybody always says that the screaming v10's are the best F1 sound. Wrong! THIS is.
So awesome and I love that car

very good
Cant beat the natural aspirated sound of a V8 👌

Yeah but this is a flat plane crank. Not everyone likes them (I do). Some people complain that a flat plane crank makes a V8 sound like a four pot.
@@thethirdman225 well flatplane=screamer
crossplane=growler
I love both honestly

The good old days, great cars, great engines, no halo, clean lines, IF only? awe why even bother why bother !
And great drivers, great livery and tobacco sponsors😌
Totally get it
Um dos carros mais lindos da F1...
Hey Mirage
Have youtube changed its rules? Porn!! My goood what a machine
I'm given to understand that this thing is one of the gods of ground effect.
Aye. Check out the video description.
R.I.P flat engines
What a sound the Cosworth DFV makes. Angry. Throaty. A marvel
It's that little rasp between (manual) gearchanges that I love. Sublime machine, legendary noise. Thanks for sharing, Bozzy.
No problem at all. Thanks for your comment!
Damn that's a small displacement for a v8, anyway Nice Video Mate!
Actually no. 1.5 liters is small displacement for 16 cylinders. 3.0 was (is) normal for V12, V10, V8 etc
@@handymccoaster3759 I never lived in you era but thanks for the info mate👍
The previous gen F1 cars were 2.4l V8.
ジェラール・ドゥカルージュの名作ですね 当時はその活躍に興奮しました
gosh i wish this would have the matra V12 instead, but this is nice as well
All those DFVs! so good.
The Matra V12 sounded better in my opinion.Beautiful looking cars.
Too bad the driver wasn't wearing a vintage dark green GPA helmet - that would have been cool!
SOOO much better sounding than modern F1 cars! DFV was a proper racing engine...

Not the original engine? Anyway no comparison to the original Matra V12 that was in my opinion one of the loudest F1 ever

How much power does it make?
The 3000 Ford Cosworth output was then in the region of 510 hp in race configuration, some were possibly upgraded to approx.530 hp in qualifying mode.
