Thanks for another instalment. These are really excellent videos. In a hundred years time, when these cars are all in museums, people will look at these videos and say 'That's how it should be done!"

That was a really impressive repair. One day it would be cool to see one of these cars in the flesh, but your channel is probably the closest I'll ever come.

Great to see another update on this - I'm always amazed at how you get over big problems without any fuss. That rear repair looks like a nightmare but you're not bothered by it! She's getting there and I'm looking forward to the next one. :-)

It was a bit of a head scratcher, but I always try to think about how I’d carry out a repair before hand, and sometimes that can change as the repairs being uncovered, this one was a challenge but I’m really happy with how it’s turned out so far, once the gel coatings on it will soon be unrecognisable

@@LewiBuchProductions It is definitely turning out well and it's brilliant knowing that this car has been saved from the rubbish pile despite the bad damage. Keep up the awesome work. 👍👍👏

In the evening sun those colours are very 1970s JCB 3C. Great repair job 👍

Thanks! 😁, they do suit it very well! Also I forgot some of the old JCBs were similar colours

I am waiting on an order of that rusty paint for mine, the previous owner painted mine in a dirty trotter yellow but the paint is so thick and chalks up it instantly bogs down any form of abrasive (suspect its exterior masonry paint). So I tried some marine stripper... just sat there so agitated it a bit... sat there again so that was a big nause so its plan B... the "Trigger's Rusty Reliant's" van and built a funny back story in Trigger being dim manages to buy the only rusty Reliant as he wanted something to carry his everlasting broom and his olde english vinyl briefcase :P I reckon's it might turn out alright, certainly tidy the old girl up a lot as she's looking crustier than a saturday nite slapper. Mine looks like a pig but is mechanically like a new car under that scabby skin diseases hehe

I'm just wondering, was there any point in polishing that panel when you have the rest of the body to repair first ? Seems a bit pointless.

Yeh this vans staying original, the areas that need repaired are left unpolished, but now have been repaired, Mainly wanted to polish it to be able to see how the finished article would look, if it didn’t polish up well I’d of had to change my plans for keeping it an original van 🙂

.... good job Lewi, interested to see how it will look when finished, are you going to be able to match the paint over the repairs, or will you make it/them stand out, like the doors in a contrasting colour, what colour is your original van door ? how is it different to the brown door currently fitted, is that from an estate ? did the van have hub caps when new ?

    • @LewiBuchProductions
      @LewiBuchProductions  3 года назад +1

I’m going to try match the yellow as best I can to the original for the repairs, but if it stands out I do have a back up plan in the works.
The vans original colour is April Yellow 🙂
The doors from an estate Robin and you can only tell as the hinges are different. Vans have steel flat hinges where as estates have aluminium hinges. Unsure if they came with hubcaps new 😅

@@RHM6x4 they never used the robin van as a post office van I believe, they did trial the Supervans but didn’t go with them

Like the fibreglass repairs. Do use fibreglass patches on the outside as well to create a sandwich repair or do you just fill with filler?
    Best wishes from Australia

I’ll just be using gel coat to smooth the outside areas out now

Not on this van, it’s staying original 🙂 I feel this one tells to much of a story to go repaint it
