Its also interest in Afghanistan as a trade route to Pakistan and Iran ports, wich will help Kazakhstan to bypass Russia's territory on export. 8:16 I’m not defending the US invasion of Afghanistan. Its just that one of the big reasons that bush invaded was that the taliban refused to hand over bin Laden to the US. What source are you guys citing for the claim of taliban offering to hand him over?

From what I can remember, the Taleban point blank refused to hand over Bin Laden, citing Pashtun hospitality traditions. *After* the start of allied action they moderated to handing over Bin Laden to a third party only if absolute proof was given of his personal guilt. I’d love to see something saying they were prepared to hand him over.

    there is no "moderate" Taliban.
there is only one taliban. all of Taliban "faction" wants and agreed with islamist sharia law Afghanistan and deep traditionalist/conservative afghan culture.
the only difference is, how to achieve it? some want a hard, using force approach in every aspect, some want to use soft approach, more advice and educating type approach, some want to use mixture of both, both hard and soft.
it is the same with relationship with western world/UN etc. some want to cut off relation with western countries/un for good, some prefer a pragmatic engagement, and some that are in the middle.
but every Taliban faction agreed, that the issue of Afghanistan is their own internal matter and totally reject outside influences.

It's true that the Taliban has allowed the water from the Harirud river to flow to Iran but the actual water dispute between Iran and Afghanistan is with the Hirmand river in the south and the dam constructed by Afghanistan. The Taliban hasn't done much regarding this and there have been quiet a few border skirmishes even some involving artillery and heavy weapons.
Iran is currently seeking peace with Taliban mostly because the Islamic republic is obsessed with a meaningless conflict with Israel and the US which doesn't allow it to engage in any other war.

Fun fact the Mujahedeen leaders like Ahmad Shah Massoud, Rabbani, Haqqani etc were in Pakistan before 1978 training to overthrow Daoud as they had failed to previously do so in 1974. Also the CIA began supporting these groups about 6 months before the Soviets entered Afghanistan (Read Jimmy Carter's National Security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski book).
Also there was a unit in the Soviet army called the Muslim Battalion which was created after a Phone call between General Secretary Nur Muhammad Taraki and the Soviets where he claimed that Herat was being taken over by Iranian soldiers dressed as civilians and he requested the Soviets get soldiers from similar ethnic makeups as Afghanistan to wear Afghan uniforms and come help

Surprisingly weak episode I’m afraid, from dubious claims that the Teleban wanted to hand over Bin Laden, contrary to what they were publicly stating at the time, to frankly giving the Taleban’s behaviour since their takeover a free pass, not mentioning just how many promises they have broken on integrating previous troops, women’s rights, not carrying out retributions, and so on.
Also claiming famine was due to foreign sanctions was made as a statement without any reasoning. Food aid is not under sanction, and there is plenty of fertile land in Afghanistan to grow crops (and if the Taleban crack down on opium cultivation as they have promised to do in the past that might help to a certain extent. Undeniably, China experienced Great Leap and Cultural Revolution, but at least the Chinese life expectancy rose from 35 to 65, and literacy rate from 10% to 70%. You could say it is global trend, but Afghanistan (and many underdeveloped countries) failed to follow the global trend. Under American occupation, Kabul has some modernized life. However, for vast rural Afghanistan, no matter under US or Soviet or Taliban, they are still living in Middle Ages. If there could be social revolution and more movements to give basic education and medical care for Afghan peasants' kids, Taliban would probably never rise again.

The US and it’s allies could try and make suggestions all they want against corruption but they ultimately had no real power to stop the Afghans from acting like idiots. This was a common issue with the Afghan National Army. Soldiers from ISAF forces routinely and vocally complained about the ANA being corrupt, inept and utterly worthless but often found themselves powerless to do anything about it. “Self sufficient” was the key phrase thrown around again and again by Western leaders when referring to Afghanistan and its military. They had to learn to be self sufficient. The issue is how do you get a backwards people who by and in large can’t read or write to be “self sufficient” at running a modern state? You can’t.

As long as Taliban can act like a responsible government, ie: NO terror attack on other country, NO safe haven for multinational terrorist groups, NO genocide towards its own citizens, I can see Taliban will be recognized by its neighbors and United Nations at least. They will slowly re-integrated into international community, and will be heading towards normalcy in the future. But that's a BIG IF.

9/11 had nothing to do with Taliban, nor with Osama bin laden. Taliban had asked the US to give proofs of Osama's involvement which they failed, as he had nothing to do with it. 9/11 was purely a CIA project using some compromised Local US Arab Muslims to blame it on them. Taliban were isolationist before and so are now. They dont want foreign powers to interfere in domestic affairs, e.g. Education syllabus, Rights groups, Sanctions etc.
The genocide you talk about was a Civil war in 1990s Taliban vs Northern alliance backed by US-Iran-India, things happen during wars. Thankfully, today there is no civil war and taliban rule has been established in all of afghanistan, unless some foreign power interferes again.

Although i can't find anything that bad online as to label them "death squads". Looks like they had pretty much the same failures and war crimes as regular western special forces, yet you don't call western special forces "death squads". I am extremely curious on this.

If the US had a legitimate path towards arresting OBL and putting al-Qaeda in Afghanistan out of action then was there really any point to the subsequent US military intervention?

The Western Powers never committed “indiscriminate bombing” of Afghan civilians. To say “indiscriminate bombing” is to say that we chose not to discriminate between combatants and non-combatants, and that is a completely falsehood. Were civilians unintentionally bombed? Yes. That’s an unfortunate 100% fact. Did Western forces choose to deliberately target civilians? No, and it’s a 100% lie to say that they did or that they committed war crimes when civilians were accidentally targeted. Civilian deaths are unfortunately a part of war. The death of civilians, while extremely unfortunate, is not in and of itself a war crime. For civilian deaths to be a war crime, it must be a deliberate targeting of known civilians, and that simply was not done in Afghanistan.
