The magic is real ! Because after 18 years clean, i still get goosebumps from the music. To see these shows brings tears of joy to my eyes and sooths my soul.
18 yrs is incredible accomplishment. Very happy for you!! 23 yrs for me...joy of living!! Bless you...
Even ed king of Lynyrd Skynyrd said that a drug free life is a way better life
Here comes the preacher, everyone.
Not everyone finds a balance! I certainly can't! Sounds great sober to me!

My first show. Thanks for bringing back the memories. What a great night!
I was there aboquqt.my 70 th show the spectrum is always rocking. After the show we saw all the. Boys at the hotel bar( except jerry). Told them thanks for the great experience. They were very gracious.we drank and talked just like it could have been
Some happy hour somewhere. Wavy gravy showed up and so did Owsley That was cool. Just guys hanging out.what a memory.miss those days for sure.Rip boys. See ya on the other side. Peace!!
My first show inside to see the DEAD on my birthday! Thanks guy who gave me a MIRACLE! 132 shows later still makes me cry happiness.
I love seeing shows I was at !! Thanks for the memories 😃😃😃 that fall was quite Special ✌
Sound is so crisp. Wonderful remastering and from a man who can hear the difference of the sound from a guitar 🎸 string that has the sun ☀️ shining on it.
God bless the Grateful Dead in 1987, My first show was 4/7/87. They were loose, having fun, and blowing straight fire. It was something special to be a part of.
Jerry remembered every word to Ramble On Rose, God Bless his heart!
I was there for this run...so great to see what I missed.😄
Mickey remembered every word to Drums too !
Ahhh, The Spectrum. My home town. That place used to SWEAT during DeAd Shows. Slipped & slid on my ass down a whole flight of stairs in 88. Laughed & got up. Seriously messed up my back. Now a days there would be a lawsuit. Oh well. I would have spent all the money by now anyway. Killer video. Thanks again!
Tight! What a year for them. Jerry was sober and happy to be alive, I love the vocals on Ramble On Rose, very strong.
If no smack or coke means sober then true, He smoked and expanded his mind some and a drink or 2.

Almost 37 years furthur along from this beautiful night on this long strange trip, the sheer RIPPEDNESS of this Sugar Magnolia (particularly after THAT Stella Blue) gets me ... every time! Grateful I am. Thank you, Kevin, for this upload! 🤸♂🤸♂🤸♂🤸♂🤸♂🤸♂🤸♂
Saw my first 4 shows this year at MSG!
What a hot Deal , Jerry was on fire!!
I was so burnt out from NYC that I fell asleep during set break and awoke to terrapin. it's nice to finally catch the gimme opener. thanks KT.
The life 88 and 89 90 the dead like to play in Philly better than anywhere because I used to come there more than any other place just my opinion
Remember this night well. Mind was melting in the second set and Jer delivered a perfect Baby Blue to send me home.
Amazing show. Thank you for sharing.
This was a fun night! Glad I was there to witness it! Madonna played the Spectrum the night before this run U2's stage crew were setting up for their concert at JFK stadium on the night after this run, and the NFL was on strike. The Philadelphia Eagles striking in amongst a shit load of dead heads...priceless! I do remember the first wave of 'Touch-Heads' on this tour. Weird energy at these shows. Not to mention Spencer Davis came out and played Good Lovin' on this night!
My Heart and soul
Thank you Kevin! Awesome as always :)
Addam's Family theme at 13:15. You know Jerry's happy when he is teasing TV tunes.
This was a great run of shows, following the amazing MSG, NYC shows in the fall! I was at all of those and I believe they were some of the best. The band was firing on all cylinders indeed!
INDEED ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
this was a school night. i had to beg my folks to let me go. saw it with two friends and my brother. both friends are now dead, but me and my brother are still tight. still sounds great.
Man we roll.. hard trying to roll. Hold on to what you got
I love this so much ! Good to c u Mr .Tobin !
Thank you for this video. When I was there, it just didn't seem like a great show; although it had it's moments. I wondered if it was the shitty weed the guy next to me had been smoking all night. Years later I got to hear the tapes and realized I had really missed out on enjoying a very good show due to that guy's shitty weed!
That's a bummer. I've had that happen before too lol
😮😢😂😅
Excellent Deal!
hey guys what a MASTERPIECE
my first show at 17, I remember when they turned the lights on for a moment when Bobby says “sometimes the lights all shining on me”, and that’s the exact moment I got on the bus, upper right 3rd level, I wish I had a picture of my face, life changing.
Yeah Kevin! Love you man. Great work!
This was my first show!
Me too!!! 😎
incredible. i was born on the 6th of Sept 87.
What a smokn' Deal !! Nice Cassidy
...Brent added do much, never the same after he died & Jerry went right back on the dragon
ah Charlie Miller. no wonder this sounds PERFECT
what a short concert for a masterpiece
When Bobby stepped up and said "I'd like to introduce Spencer Davis", well, we knew what was coming. My friends and I were on the first level, right behind Brent, and we went just a little loco, a real Rock and Roll moment, forever etched in my old brain.
There is nothing like a grateful Dead show ... When I die put speakers by my head blasting the grateful dead so I can dance dance dance blessed be namaste
That second set is PHENOMENAL!!
Two Soldiers Jam comes out of space for about 4 mins and THEN they go into Wheel. Two Soldiers is a bluegrass ballad that Dylan has covered, as well as Garcia with Grisman... and most very recently Billy Strings..... not to drop names of course ~ ;) Have a look n listen!
This is actually (1:16:00) "Off to Sea Once More", which is very similar to "Two Soldiers", also an old bluegrass tune covered by many including Dylan & Garcia/Grisman. You can tell the difference via this recently uploaded video of the 1st ever Garcia/Grisman shows, which has both songs in the set:
ruclips.net/video/yMVctodad14/видео.html
Jerry dredged this theme up during Space twice more at the Spectrum, 9/13/90 & 9/11/93 (I think those are the dates, maybe off by a couple days?), & also I think at the Cap Cen in March '93. I'm currently going thru & trying to figure out exactly which song is which in these jams.
I heard Handsome Cabin Boy? Or a mixture of Two Soldiers and Cabin Boy.
Beautiful!
trippin my balls off about 12 rows from jerry..saw them 7 times in philly in 87(spring,fall,jfk)...a a horse mounted policeman was run over this night right next to where my car was parked across the street in fairmount park. I cant believe how many shows were filmed..its really amazing how much of this musical national treasure was documented
yep, was right there with u brother...2 mescalin and 2 blotter, and the second set was a trip. We stayed in the parking lot, until probably 6am, then decided to drive home during rush hour, up the (2)95, then 206 thru Princeton to home. Made it home. Just in time to catch my mom heading to work and for me to cut the lawn. She was not pleased. A memorable day. My buddies and i recall this and many shows that year regularly, Grateful...
awesome thanks!
Gotta be one of the best deals of all time!!
I'm partial to 6/9/84 Cal Expo. Give it a twirl. Totally shreds.
The jam in Space (1:16:00 is "Off to Sea Once More", an old bluegrass/ sea shanty tune covered by many including Dylan & Garcia/Grisman in 1990/91/92. This is very similar to "Two Soldiers", a different but also old bluegrass/ sea shanty tune, & loads of people get them mixed up (including myself). You can tell the difference via this recently uploaded video of the 1st ever Garcia/Grisman show, which has both songs in the set:
ruclips.net/video/yMVctodad14/видео.html
Jerry dredged this theme up during Space twice more at the Spectrum, 9/12/90 (the Drop into the Dew is EPIC) & 9/13/93, & also at the Cap Cen on 3/17/93.
I'm currently going thru & trying to figure out exactly which song is which in these jams in each of these shows, as I'm an autistic Nerd/Geek/Dork & it's Black Friday & I am broke as fukk & don't participate in holiday sheeple behavior anyhoo . . .
Wow the Dynamics of this is what made the Grateful Dead who they are - Jerry initiates this & it's just . . . Angelic, then Bobby joins in & nearly derails the whole affair with his angular dissonance (Bobby being Bobby after all), then Phil gets involved & smooths things out, Bobby chills out & melds with Phil to get back to an Angelic feel, meanwhile, Jerry "Soldiers" on with the theme thruout, only occasionally messing with the timing just to throw an occasional monkey wrench into affairs. Then they briefly tease Playin' Reprise (played at MSG a few nites prior, just before their Disastrous debut on Farm Aid when they mis timed the broadcast slot & TV Land was "treated" to Black Peter instead of the planned-for Maggie's Farm).
See, THIS is the kind of Fare I used to go to as many shows as I could to catch. Sure, a smokin' Ramble on Rose or Deal is Cool & all, but . . . pretty Routine . . . this was Once In A Lifetime stuff. Sadly, these days, the entire "GD Cover Band Inc" industry Caters to the song oriented no jamming Ham N Egger crowds. Gotta make a living . . .
I was there and not completely wasted so I remember!
this is nice ...thank you
Thanks Kevin for these incredible Philly shows (my first multi-night run). Any chance you have the third night of this run (9/24)?
this is a heater! love it!
I accidently left playback speed at 1.25x and then dialed this up. The "Paint my Masterpiece" was surprisingly pepadelic! I wonder what the next one will be like?
Worked good! Ramble Run Rose. The next - Cassidy - definitely needs to be normal, tho.
Loving it
Fall Tour. Jerry back in Philly after the coma at RFK in 86.
Long live The Dead !!!!!!!!!!!
3/31/87 PLEASE!!!!!!!!

😊 I was high as hell on a ball of opium in the 1st row, 1st tier, Phil's side! OH MAN!! Caught the sound just right!! The good ol' Spectrum!!! Great parking lot scene, no BS lsd etc. I traded my 76 Monte Carlo for tickets.
Handsome Cabin Boy jam out of Space into The Wheel.
I wondered what that was. thx.
That sequence . . . beautiful GD magic standing the test of time!
great catch terrapanda! got a playin tease there too!
Jerry was always good through the 80 s as far as I’m concerned ! Bobby was always on even if his voice was ruff ! 🌹🐰🐇🥀❤️☮️
This takes me back to my best years ! After Jerry left I left also ! Part of me died + I can’t get me back ! So sad I am until the end !😢
I love the Grateful DEAD ! (~);}
Ramble on Rose is the most psychedelic song in the history of American music.
1988-1990
Best years of my life 👊👑👊👑👑👑
RFK SNEAKINCREW. we had the best family on tour.
Spinning family..
Roach bus family..

My hearts screaming now for Jerry still after all these years gone by I miss that lovely man until I die ! In death do we begin our journey together my man + his woman 💜🐰🐇🧜♀️🧜♂️🧜🧚♀️🧚🏿♂️🧚🏼☠️💀👻☠️💀👽🪐🥰😍😘🥳soul mates !
How can you not ja. To this......
Who's playing fiddle on Masterpiece? I was there and don't remember seeing a fiddle player. Someone backstage?
Best jack straw I ever got to see 😊
Would love to know what was going on at 35:25. Either Jerry or Bob hit a real stinker on the turnaround to verse 2, then Bob looks like he's trying to shake dog poo off his hand, and Jerry starts laughing through the lyrics.
I love my Grateful DEAD (~);}
PS: I remember people thinking Spencer Davis was Bruce Springsteen as he entered the stage. When Jer was playing the Handsome Cabin Boy, I wondered what would come of it.
drums n space is sooooooooooooo good :)
I was there. Yaayyyyy
Lol, Spencer's like, do these boys know how to end at a song or does it go on forever?! Grateness
I sure do miss the Spectrum
AMEN!!!!!!!!! Im from NJ,Saw some Incredible shows there,They LOVED PHILLY!!!!
I'm a Jersey boy also .
catcheez Yeah man, Philly always was special, saw some great shows there. One show I saw there sometime in the eighties, I can't remember specifics, can only remember for sure 2 songs- 1/2 step and crazy fingers, it was standard song selection but every tune rocked, they were really on, those nights were magic. Feel sorry for people who never got to experience that
it was a good tour even though it was a little hard on the heads. Last night in Landover was fed hell. everyone swinging in the lot had problems.
I’m always surprised when they have a guest attend their shows because there certainately is no reason for that , we r there to c them ! 😱🤪😵💫dah is how it feels to me ! ❤️🐰🐇🌹☮️👽🪐🛸👻🍄💜💚🧡💙💛love all around them ! 🥰🤩🧚♀️🧚🏿♂️🧚🏼
Smoking, did they really only play 4 songs in first set or is some of this missing?
Some is missing. Hey Pocky Way opened.
I was there. They did take long breaks.
was there...trippin, about 10 rows back from stage..
Handsome Cabin Boy jam out of space
Was a really fun show but I felt Spencer Davis wasn't familiar with there version of his song. Kinda threw the 2nd set off.
What I would give to be back at any of this era!!
what an amazing wheel>truckin
