I saw this as a boy watching movies in Australia and it stared in many of my dreams and day dreams and has been part of my love and wonder .❤ I really believe in this car , WOW. It would hold up at pebble beach . WOW. 😮
as a very young car nut my older brother took me to the '64 Oakland Roadster Show, this car left a lasting impression on me (it's asymmetrical design stands out to this day), thanks
My brother had/has trading card he got back then with custom & racing cars of the of the day. The Mantaray is one of them. Thanks to that I've known about this car my entire life. Thanks! Good to learn more about it.
I only vaguely remember this one; probably because - for some unfathomable reason - the Mantaray was never made into a 1/25th scale model kit. Apparently, the closest it came was a slot car body. It's still not too late for Round 2 AMT/MPC to kit this one. It (belatedly) deserves to be immortalized in injection molded model kit form, or at least lines of code for a 3D Printer. Thanks for making this, Retro Car! 82nd Like.
Craftmanship to the max, Dean Jeffries hand-formed and welded aluminum sheets, even if a small amount of filler could be found; that is an astounding job. TIG must have been a thing in 69. If not, how did he do it? The welds holding the aluminum rods make the body outline look like tig welding. I like the Mantaray because it is a high-performance machine that would be fun to drive. It's not a Disneyland gocart-type fiberglass body.
It also appears in the multi color paint scheme in a Batman TV show episode (Episode 2:25) where it is stolen by Shame (Cliff Robertson) during the Gotham City 500.
The only thing my father-in-law ever tried to gift me was some of his Bud Light (which I refused because I don’t drink gay beer). I’m going to show him this video to give him an idea for a more appropriate gift.
@ I spent a semester in Denmark in college and I know Denmark well. Carlsberg is excellent! I stayed with this very nice family in Hillerød. Have you ever been there? They have a nice castle.
@@Lettuce-and-Tomatoes We've got lots of castles, mose open to the public and used for events. I attended a wedding at the one in Hillerød, also worked on the TV inspection of its sewer system! Not on the same day, tho. As for beer, Carlsberg is OK, they come out with smaller batch craft brews once in a while, like stouts and IPAs. But the real gems come from smaller craft breweries -dunno if they're exported. The local distillery just won an international award for best single malt whiskey of 2024. I have a bottle on reserve for when my son graduates. Regards from Denmark!
Your pal Kid Rock went back to drinking “gay” Bud Light.. must not be so “gay” now. But I think it’s cute how threatened you are by a product simply for acknowledging the existence of a group of humans. I hope you have beautiful gay babies, sir. 😘

Dean Jeffries was a true master of the art and craft of custom cars. Thanks again, Retro!
One man’s dream becomes reality… nothing else like it… beautiful car.
Oh Wow!!!!! That is SO COOL!!!!! The Mantaray is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen! Dean Jeffries was a genius!
Amazing piece of craftsmanship.
Hey, I suggested this car. This design is wild, I wish Jeffries built more cars. His paint jobs were crazy, though. Good video.

MATTEL did make an adult collectible Hot Wheels out of it (available on eBay.)
Asymmetric design!
Always a great looking car. You would need a very large budget, and some influential friends to get access to those parts.

One of my favorite's...
If you were into the slot-car craze of 1965-1968 you had to have a Mantaray slot car with the "iso-fulcrum" chassis to win!
It also appears in the multi color paint scheme in a Batman TV show episode (Episode 2:25) where it is stolen by Shame (Cliff Robertson) during the Gotham City 500.
Was the remote @2:23 for an early keyless entry system?
Unfortunately I couldn't find any information on the remote and its features.
0:15 "Two pre WWII Maserati Formula1 racing cars..." maybe pedantic, but F1 started in 1950.
I thought it was either a Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, or a George Barris car!?! Shows what I know😆😆
That should have been in some syfi show cool. Huh
🚙
I do not see the innovation. I only see a loto design and craftmanship.
Mr.Jefferies -
IS
WAS
ALWAYS WILL BE
MORE TALENTED THAN GEORGE BARRIS
Nice, but Its asymmetry doesn't appeal to me
It's well rounded ,a four wheeled form of a woman
The design is wonky. You notice the wheels on the right is close while the wheels on the left is further away..
Asymmetrical is the word. ChryCo. did it with show cars.
I don't like it.

I wouldn't call bud lite gay.
Hell, I wouldn't even call it beer!
Got nothing to do with being gay.
But it is what we całl in Denmark "svagpisserøl"!

White is such a boring color choice.
