It's like Disney's Haunted Mansion but in reverse. The Disney ride is scary in the beginning and gets goofy and cute by the end. This one is goofy and cute in the beginning and scary by the end.
I like it. It's more surreal than you expect. The flooded room in particular looked trippy and creepy at the same time.

When I was a kid my mom told me this would be cute and fun. I screamed from the first animatronic to the horn at the end of the tunnel. She felt horrible. On the bright side, as an adult, I LOVE this ride and admire all the hard work that came from it. I also distinctly remember the weird smell of the mansion.

I actually programmed all of the animatronics for Monster Mansion after the overhaul from Monster Plantation. Let me know if you guys have any questions about this ride, I know it front to back! We actually had a retired Disney Imagineer come out and give us his vision for all movement patterns of the characters. What's funny is a week before opening, we scrapped his entire "story" ! The guys in charge basically just asked me to reprogram all of the animatronics to move more, so no boats would miss out on seeing movement patterns of any character.
All of the animatronics were programmed by a netbook running windows xp... seriously.
The most difficult character to program is actually the first one you see - Missy Scarlett. She was controlled via analog movement (instead of digital), which meant you had full range controls to work with. Imagine turning a dial that allowed full motion of a specific part of the character, instead of a digital signal which is simply an on/off event. We had to fly someone out who literally the night before opening to program her. He had worked 20+ years programming animatronics for all the major theme parks across the country, but even he was stumped at the level of difficulty for her!
This was my first time ever programming animatronics. The Disney imagineer offered me a job in California to work on these type of projects in the future, but I declined. It's a lot harder than it looks... primarily due to the graveyard shift and unreasonable pressure & hours placed on you to finish the project on time.

    Your local animatronic freak here!
This ride was made in the 80’s by AVG, the same people who made Tex Critter’s Jamboree and Circus Playhouse animatronics. These guys are run by pheunamics (did I spell that right?) basically compressed air going through tubes and pushing the cylinders, making the character move. To be honest, I’m not really into dark rides, so I don’t know too much about this subject. I thought it closed down, but I’m glad it didn’t!
    Thanks for reading!

When they changed the name from plantation to mansion they first changed the ride updating it with new things like scents, and the feel of heat in some areas, they added some animatronics and updated others and made the marsh a bit more creepy. They change happened in 2014 if I remember correctly. (my memory is on the fritz thanks to pregnancy lol!)

Georgia native, born and raised. I've been riding this ride every since I can remember and it was my favorite when it was Monster Plantation. I had the honor of doing a paranormal investigation in Six Flags Over Georgia many years ago. and we were featured in the AJC. A journalist followed us around that night and took notes on our investigation. Yes, a lot of rides in that park are haunted, the Crystal Pistol Stage is haunted, and even an area of the parking lot has had sightings!

Frim what I saw when I went on this ride a few days ago at Six Flags, they’ve repaired Miss Scarlet and have gotten rid of the flooded room. They also got rid of a few monsters, and have added more to the sign and monster telling you not to go into the marsh.

been there many times! we used to go to Six Flags over Georgia at least once or twice a summer. my father was a sign painter most of my young life. he painted billboards for a guy who owned a hotel chain in the greater Atlanta area, one of which was a 5 min. walk from the 6 Flags front gate. 6 Flags would give the hotel owner tons of free tickets to give to friends and family because he would advertise for them on his signs. so he would often give Daddy tickets as a perk for doing all of the sign work. when i was little i loved the Monster Plantation but i never could make it all the way through the marsh with my eyes opened. i would bury my face in Mama's shoulder and try to peek out every few seconds LOL. thanks for posting this. it was fun trip down a very long memory lane!

I used to ride this all the time when my mom would bring me here over 25 years ago. We had season passes. The theme is actually simple. It's a flooded plantation overrun with monsters. They throw a party to lure humans (to eat of course). The sheriff is the only helpful one, but you're eaten anyway. Those poor animatronics have seen better days.

I cannot explain how weirdly happy I am to finally see this ride video again😭

I have been going to Six Flags Over Georgia since the early 70's. I was too young to remember it as anything before Monster Plantation. It never scared me. Actually, my brothers, father, and myself were always into the thrill rides. My dad had me on them by the time I was 5 or 6. Back then, the only coaster was the Scream Machine. But, my mother would only ride Monster Plantation, The Hanson Cars, the Carousel, The Log Flume, and the Sky Buckets. As I got older I appreciated Monstet Plantation because it was a cool place to get out of the Georgia heat for a few minutes. Many great memories at this park. I turned 50 this year and it is just me and my older brother now. I don't go every year anymore, but my brother and I went with his grandchildren. son, wife and daughter in law in 2008 and we had a blast. His wife won't ride any of the thrill rides and his son won't ride alot of them, but the rest of us did!

I had a collection of Ranger Rick books which were my father's and one magazine (from the early 80s) was dedicated to the art of constructing this ride. I was (and still am) fascinated by animatronics so I thought it was so cool. Its just so out there and freaky. However, I live quite a distance away from here, but hopefully someday I'll get there to ride it.

Childhood nostalgia! I remember this ride, the actual Log Flume, and Thunder River were the only rides I would get on when I was a kid because I was always afraid of the coasters. Of course, the monstrous mouth at the end of the Mansion also scared the shit out of me as a kid so I always closed my eyes when the ride came to an end. :p Thanks for the memories, friendo!
