you prolly dont give a shit but if you're stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend lately =)
When I was a kid my mom told me this would be cute and fun. I screamed from the first animatronic to the horn at the end of the tunnel. She felt horrible. On the bright side, as an adult, I LOVE this ride and admire all the hard work that came from it. I also distinctly remember the weird smell of the mansion.
Jacob Morgan I feel like a place such as this would be better suited as a historical piece instead of a current ride. From that standpoint, it's quite brilliant. But from the standpoint of a current ride, it really is lackluster.
Tyler, you don't do this by "fixing".... the fluid movements = VERY EXPENSIVE technology. Most parks cannot afford such extravagant costly spendings... Cheers
I actually live in Georgia and on the camera it doesn’t look that great but on the ride it is very fun and a great way to cool down and this is a traditional ride for us in the Six Flags over Georgia visitors!
That was actually really cool and good quality better than some other generic dark rides I’ve seen. The flooded room at the beginning was ready neat effect. It does have the feeling of Splash Mountain.
"You're invited to a picnic, monster picnic, but humans are allowed you see. Join the monsters at the mansion. Glad you came inside, relax enjoy the ride." One of my favorite rides back in the 80s. Thanks for posting this one!
I actually programmed all of the animatronics for Monster Mansion after the overhaul from Monster Plantation. Let me know if you guys have any questions about this ride, I know it front to back! We actually had a retired Disney Imagineer come out and give us his vision for all movement patterns of the characters. What's funny is a week before opening, we scrapped his entire "story" ! The guys in charge basically just asked me to reprogram all of the animatronics to move more, so no boats would miss out on seeing movement patterns of any character. All of the animatronics were programmed by a netbook running windows xp... seriously. The most difficult character to program is actually the first one you see - Missy Scarlett. She was controlled via analog movement (instead of digital), which meant you had full range controls to work with. Imagine turning a dial that allowed full motion of a specific part of the character, instead of a digital signal which is simply an on/off event. We had to fly someone out who literally the night before opening to program her. He had worked 20+ years programming animatronics for all the major theme parks across the country, but even he was stumped at the level of difficulty for her! This was my first time ever programming animatronics. The Disney imagineer offered me a job in California to work on these type of projects in the future, but I declined. It's a lot harder than it looks... primarily due to the graveyard shift and unreasonable pressure & hours placed on you to finish the project on time.
Your local animatronic freak here! This ride was made in the 80’s by AVG, the same people who made Tex Critter’s Jamboree and Circus Playhouse animatronics. These guys are run by pheunamics (did I spell that right?) basically compressed air going through tubes and pushing the cylinders, making the character move. To be honest, I’m not really into dark rides, so I don’t know too much about this subject. I thought it closed down, but I’m glad it didn’t! Thanks for reading! Edit: grammar
Monster Mansion is my FAVORITE ride at Six Flags Over Georgia. I used to ride it continuously. I would ride, get off, and hop right back in line. I have so much nostalgia right now.
Kristy McConnell I go all the time and its become increasingly broken down as the years go by they have never updated things and I fear one day if I go in a short with start a fire, I try to talk my husband out of making me go on but to no avail
Jacob Morgan Oh my gosh. I can relate. I rode this and cried in my sisters lap and I'm well over 10 years of age. Especially "hell" at the end of the ride. That humonguos animatronic scared my piss out of me
When i was about 8 I rode this for the first time. I hated the happy goofy part of the ride. By the Kissing Booth I'd started to relax a little. Then the Marsh hit. I kept my face hidden almost the rest of the ride.
this seems like that one ride that you take your kids on cause it seems so happy and kid friendly, and half way through you realise the huge mistake you've made
Yeah like incrapped my pants after an hour in that line first time my parents took me to rode it when I was 5, like the second we were about to get on the boat. My sister was so mad bc we had to leave to get me cleaned up lol. I had nightmares about it after that for years b4 I got the balls to ride it.
When they changed the name from plantation to mansion they first changed the ride updating it with new things like scents, and the feel of heat in some areas, they added some animatronics and updated others and made the marsh a bit more creepy. They change happened in 2014 if I remember correctly. (my memory is on the fritz thanks to pregnancy lol!)
Kitten ofthesnow If I remember correctly, it was either in 2008 or 2009. The ride was still open and nothing was changed in 2014. I should know, because I remember going on Monster Mansion back in 2014.
Well like I said my memory is a little fuzzy (pregnancy can cause that) so I was a bit wrong about the year. Thanks for correcting me though ^_^ Wow was it really all the way back in 2009? (That was my graduating year) I cant believe how fast the years are passing it surprises me how long its been!
Kitten ofthesnow Like you, my memory is a bit fuzzy, so I can't remember if that was the year the ride (re)opened as Monster Mansion or it was under construction/refurbishment at that time.
Georgia native, born and raised. I've been riding this ride every since I can remember and it was my favorite when it was Monster Plantation. I had the honor of doing a paranormal investigation in Six Flags Over Georgia many years ago. and we were featured in the AJC. A journalist followed us around that night and took notes on our investigation. Yes, a lot of rides in that park are haunted, the Crystal Pistol Stage is haunted, and even an area of the parking lot has had sightings!
I'm also a Georgia native, but it scared the crap out of me. I always rode the dalonaga mine train instead. I never knew the park was haunted though. I love ghosts and always try and look for them anywhere. Nothing found yet though
Same man Georgia native still here and this ride is a classic. Also I’m wondering if you heard the story how a guy was decapitated by the Batman ride while trying to get his hat?
This looks so fun...and soooo weird!! The facade looks suspiciously like the Disneyland Haunted Mansion, too. It’s also pretty long for a dark ride, which is cool. So much mish-mash and weirdness and random scary monsters!! That last monster, dang!
This was my favorite ride when I was a kid! I'd spend at least half of every trip to six flags just riding this over and over. It has changed a bit since then, but not entirely!
Frim what I saw when I went on this ride a few days ago at Six Flags, they’ve repaired Miss Scarlet and have gotten rid of the flooded room. They also got rid of a few monsters, and have added more to the sign and monster telling you not to go into the marsh.
Absolutely charming ride. It makes me wonder how it would look if 2019-2020 imagineers from Disneyworld completely upgraded it with the tech of the time, but kept the placements and themes the same; keeping the charm, but updating the soft/hardware
been there many times! we used to go to Six Flags over Georgia at least once or twice a summer. my father was a sign painter most of my young life. he painted billboards for a guy who owned a hotel chain in the greater Atlanta area, one of which was a 5 min. walk from the 6 Flags front gate. 6 Flags would give the hotel owner tons of free tickets to give to friends and family because he would advertise for them on his signs. so he would often give Daddy tickets as a perk for doing all of the sign work. when i was little i loved the Monster Plantation but i never could make it all the way through the marsh with my eyes opened. i would bury my face in Mama's shoulder and try to peek out every few seconds LOL. thanks for posting this. it was fun trip down a very long memory lane!

I have been going on this ride since the early, early 80s! Have been in about 14 years cause I live out west now!! My childhood flashed before my eyes as I rode this with family and friends who aren't around anymore, plus carried my first girlfriend on it in the early 90s. Wow!
I haven’t been to sfog (my homepark) in about five years. It’s about time I revisit it soon. I’m glad I was able to live through the transition from monster plantation growing up as a kid to monster mansion now.
You just made me miss the Spelunker Cave at Six Flags over Texas!!!! Similar ride but was all in Black light! Sadly it was replaced with a Bugs Bunny theme in around the early 90s. I think there is a small bit of info about it on the web. Maybe we should make petition for it's return!
not to mention the new bugs bunny one is absolutely terrifying omg. i went on it with one friend and it was just us two in a boat and we were terrified lmao. we're teenagers.
i loved this ride growing up! my dad still calls it monster plantation as he was young when it was called that. not to mention whenever i stand in line the song is absolutely boppin and i love it! this is as southern as i’ll get i can assure you that!
I went on this ride a while ago and was skeptic about it being a little kiddie ride at first due to the cutsie looking exterior. Of course my opinion was quickly changed once I entered it, what a hellhole
Childhood nostalgia! I remember this ride, the actual Log Flume, and Thunder River were the only rides I would get on when I was a kid because I was always afraid of the coasters. Of course, the monstrous mouth at the end of the Mansion also scared the shit out of me as a kid so I always closed my eyes when the ride came to an end. :p Thanks for the memories, friendo!
I had a collection of Ranger Rick books which were my father's and one magazine (from the early 80s) was dedicated to the art of constructing this ride. I was (and still am) fascinated by animatronics so I thought it was so cool. Its just so out there and freaky. However, I live quite a distance away from here, but hopefully someday I'll get there to ride it.
Wow, that brings back memories. Me and and buddy used to go to Six Flags alot in our teens and early twentys. Been through that ride many times. It definately hasn't changed that much. I do remember at that time it was called Monster Plantation. Thanks for the video.
This is like a combination of splash mountain, it's a small world, Mr. Toads wild ride, haunted mansion, and an a dark and creepy abandon theme park attraction.
I used to ride this all the time when my mom would bring me here over 25 years ago. We had season passes. The theme is actually simple. It's a flooded plantation overrun with monsters. They throw a party to lure humans (to eat of course). The sheriff is the only helpful one, but you're eaten anyway. Those poor animatronics have seen better days.
It's been so long since I've been on this ride... Last time I went on it it was called monster plantation. Since then it seems like they've added some characters and took out the song ("you're invited..to a picnic...monster picnic where humans are allowed...) and certain "sayings" that the characters would say. When I was little this ride used to scare the crap out of me!
I have been going to Six Flags Over Georgia since the early 70's. I was too young to remember it as anything before Monster Plantation. It never scared me. Actually, my brothers, father, and myself were always into the thrill rides. My dad had me on them by the time I was 5 or 6. Back then, the only coaster was the Scream Machine. But, my mother would only ride Monster Plantation, The Hanson Cars, the Carousel, The Log Flume, and the Sky Buckets. As I got older I appreciated Monstet Plantation because it was a cool place to get out of the Georgia heat for a few minutes. Many great memories at this park. I turned 50 this year and it is just me and my older brother now. I don't go every year anymore, but my brother and I went with his grandchildren. son, wife and daughter in law in 2008 and we had a blast. His wife won't ride any of the thrill rides and his son won't ride alot of them, but the rest of us did!

@Bentlee Issac Yup, I've been using Instaflixxer for since december myself :D
I think its safe to say, that that was about the weirdest ride I've ever seen
Gary Crow Better than what it used to be
It's close, but I would have to say "Journey to Atlantis" is even weirder (or at least, makes less sense).
We got a light weight ,lol.
This is my home park. It is a much loved ride!
It's kinda weird seeing people react to a ride that I've been on several times and just accepted as normal
woah the ride seemed playful at the starting with cartoony monsters then unexpectdly turned to the creepy theme
+Melody1474 isn't it amazing?
It just flipped on a dime just like my Bi-polar disorder.

Two more bits: The Monsters were created by former Disney park Imagineers, and in the first room is a painting of the Okeefenokee characters!
+odinvonzero dang, how did I miss that? You'll have to show me next time
The Carpetbagger You may have caught a glimpse of it at 3:08. (But you know... my memory is kinda fuzzy.)
The Carpetbagger was actually the designer of the attraction Country Bear Jamboree
odinvonzero I was wondering who made these. They look good for animatronics made in the 70s not by imagineers.
Ok, I've heard this a few times before: What's Okkeefenookee? I guess it's a US cultural thing?
Put that thing back where it came from or so help me.

Monster Mansion is my FAVORITE ride at Six Flags Over Georgia. I used to ride it continuously. I would ride, get off, and hop right back in line. I have so much nostalgia right now.
I'm a Georgia girl and the Monster Plantation was my favorite as a kid.
Georgia boy here, and I'm the same way. My wife and I ride it everytime we go to the park.
Same here! It was especially nice on hot days!

the red monster at 4:15 was actually so cute
I feel like I just cheated on Disney World... but that was pretty cool. Thanks again, Jacob!
This ride will forever be monster plantation for me
At the end you sounded stressed out and the ride was very intense for you .
This is my favorite ride there. I remember riding this a lot when it was monster plantation.
I love this ride sm, it is so underrated
This brought back some memories. Used to have a season pass to six flags growing up and this was my favorite ride for some reason.
The red monster sniffing the
flower was pretty cool !-_•
I'm glad they change the name, so now everyone can enjoy the ride in peace and comfort without being reminded the world hates them.
fundifferent1 lol
fundifferent1 lmao to much pc
What is this? Passive aggressive trolling?
I grew up going to Six Flags over Georgia and I remember ride when the park first opened!
I live in the area and have season passes. It's always been my fav ride
pretty cool they were able to change the name from monster plantation. i haven't been in over ten years but still looks awesome.
05:48 *When the trip goes bad*
I applaud your ability to keep the camera steady - a lot of these ride-through videos are filmed on shaky GoPros!
I love monster plantation!!I've been riding it since I was a kid!!
The themeing on this ride is weird as hell and I can't tell what just happened but those characters were just so charming!!
I grew up with this ride as a child and i have rode it every time i go to Sixflags here in GA
Jacob, you consistently rock! Thank you again for taking me somewhere I've never been!!!
Thanks for posting! I was missing summertime in Georgia, and this was one of my favorite places to go!
My absolute favorite ride of all time!
His wife won't ride any of the thrill rides and his son won't ride alot of them, but the rest of us did!
i've actually rode this before nice to know the history behind it :D
