Guns aren't very gentlemanly, I doubt Sakurai would put the slot machine gun in because it just doesn't suit him. Guy uses what he can in the heat of the moment like a gentlemanly McGuyver. Rapiers are a gentleman's weapon though ("an elegant weapon for a more civilized age") so I can see him using that at least.
When I'm told not to play with swords I will bring up this video and say, "A gentleman always protects his friends. Professor Layton says so. Therefore, I can play with swords."
It's actually more impressive when you think about it. Layton only managed to hold his own because his target was in fact old, but also because Layton knows how to fence. Anton fought like the youth he was portrayed as before realizing how old he actually is, that's some skill and passion right there for a man who has to be in his 80's when this game came out.
Yes, but that's to us, the Layton fans. This game sold enough to warrant a next game. Personally, I think most layton fans can agree with me that these games are Good. Like really Good. They are excellence in a cartridge, yet they have no name in gaming culture. No one talks about them, or even have a presence of a community online. Even Ace Attorney has whole communities of fans, yet Layton is sorta just there and talked about when brought up. Economically, its not underated and will continue. But culture wise, and appreciation, its so hard to find a fellow Layton fan, both online and in real life. AND its stings, because we all honestly agree that Layton is such a stellar character and the games are 10/10. But eh, what can you do?
@@DekuStickGamer I just started playing the mobile ports and I was honestly surprised to find out Layton was by far one of the top-selling series on the DS. You don't get that impression with how little it's talked about, especially nowadays. Even the latest game and those ports didn't seem to make much noise.
We already know how layton able to fencing so decently,it just suprisingly weird that instead of explain thing, layton pull sword and immediately fight anton like he already read the script of the story
Oh the memories, I remember loving this part when I first saw it, and now it's hard to believe it's been 2 years since I got it, -though I still play it again to watch the scenes- I mean Professor Layton sword fighting? that's just awesome right there. ಠ_ರೃ
I love how at 0:19 when layton's hat comes off for a split second, we still don't get to see layton without his hat since his coat is blocking our view..
This is by far my favourite scene. I worked so hard just to get 4500 picarates just so I could watch this scene over and over again. It was well worth it! :P
lol I can picture this. "Are you...all right?" "No, I'm feeling a bit worn down." "A spot of tea, then? "Yes, that'd do me good. Something spicy, smokey, and sweet." Anton feels better and ready to kill! "Before I slice you to ribbons, try this puzzle!" :3
I've finally figured out why Anton "steams" during the middle of the fight. He's blowing off the hallucinogenic gas that's causing the illusions, which is why he gets weaker shortly afterwards. His brain is losing the idea that he's young Anton, and (for at least his physical capabilities) is going more towards old Anton.
In The Curious Village when that dude at the market tries to give you the vase, on the top screen it shows you the bottom half of a figure lurking in the shadows. When I say that part, I didn't know Anton was only in The Diabolical Box, and I was like "OH MY GOSH IT'S ANTON EEEEEEEE!!!" And it just turned out to be Don Paolo :[
It's called The Elysian Box Theme and if you complete this game then you can listen to it in the bonus section, or just find it on here - I think some people have put all the tracks from the soundtrack up.
@TheOrangeBanjo also (in Japan only) there is a manga called Professor Layton and the Cheerful Mystery, and three novels! I forgot what the titles are though...
So Layton is a gentleman, a puzzle master, an archaeologist, a swordsman, a pianist, a tea lover and an all around awesome guy? Why are all the best men fictional?! :'(
@LupusLapin You are indeed correct. I hadn't though about that. Jolly good show. Maybe then we saw both sides of their vision of the castles interrior, flashing from Antons to the Porfessors and back again. I shall have the pleasure of tipping MY hat to you for spoting that flaw in my theory. I think we should give this little puzzle picarats. I suggest 80.
This was the most epic point of the game and no one can convince me otherwise. Also is it bad that this made me like 7000% more attracted to Layton? BECAUSE HE IS A GENTLEMAN AND A BAMF AT THE SAME TIME.
@LupusLapin Part 1: I believe I have a pretty sound theory for that. As we all know, Anton's youth was an illision of the gas in the gold mines. Therefore the gas can get inside the castle. If you looked at the front of the castle, you could tell time has taken its toll on the castle, but the interior is in mint condition.
@TheOrangeBanjo Yeah, I heard about that a while back. The Eternal Diva, isn't it? I watched it and I loved it! Though, I am a bit slow on finding these things out...
LAYTON FOR SMASH ULTIMATE
Fodimin Layton Agreed
JS S Nice!
Fodimin Layton I need it
I'm waiting for a playable Layton since the first time I played it xD
Léo Stoëcklin The moment I got to this part in the game I was like LAYTON FOR SMASH
Hershel Layton. The only man who can wear a top hat and a trench coat and still be badass
If you wanna see an HD version of this check out the version on my channel
thats because layton is the last original gentleman left
If Layton were to be in smash he could use a sword like this and a slot machine gun.
Exactly!!!
Luke Castillo 6 years too late

A gentleman also does what he is told, and doesn't make excuses.🙃
do you still agree with 5 years younger than you you?

This is my FAVORITE cutscene from this game! :D

Alex morelli you responded to an 11 year old comment
@@davidwhitted289 maybe he could take it...as I will
This was one of the most beautiful duel scene I had ever seen in my life. The animation, the music, everything! I was shuddering all alone!
0:20 "hey don´t tocuh the hat bro".
Do not. I repeat, do NOT mess with Layton's hat, or tell him to take it off
I cant be the only one who watched that scene, trying to see under the hat, OVER AND OVER
AFiveYearOldPlays well, in the unwound future we finally get to see under it
***** After spending over an hour one year ago doing my looking, I finally completed lost future...
I thought he was bald!
"A true gentleman never takes his hat off"
-Professor Layton, Pandora's box
This becomes less impressive when you realize he's fighting an old man.
+Luke Jolly That or more impressive that the old man could keep up.
It's actually more impressive when you think about it. Layton only managed to hold his own because his target was in fact old, but also because Layton knows how to fence. that's because you haven't played the game Mel F
But damn, that old man sure did know how to keep up lol
*Barristan Selmy entered the chat*
I voted Layton for Smash because of this video xD
they should and you can change his costume from the past and his sword/pipe
If you wanna see an HD version of this check out the version on my channel
*Anton slows down*
Layton: "Are you alright?"
Anton: "...God, I really need to quit smoking."
this was such an underrated series
I don't think an underrated series gets six games with a seventh on the way

A true Gentlemen....Always remember to kick ass.
It's like, the prof. Dosnt even try to explain, he's just like "you wanna sword fight? K bro"

You know, for an old man, Anton sure is agile.
Layton for Smash 4!
That would be very interesting... Yes Layton must be in smash 4!
Came to remind you that Layton is not in Smash 4.
Sorion Hex they want him in it.. they know hes not in it duh -.-
Sorion Hex Smash Ballot!
Spooneads If he was a proper character though, that'd just be ace.
Ah, that beautiful Original DS audio crackling. Wouldn't be the same without it ;)
The low quality and compressed sound just gives me nostalgia for first playing this on DS and it being the coolest thing to watch
0:47 damn it Anton, where'd you get that epic sword move bro?!?
I knew that a cutscene like this will coming, so I wasted no time in the sword puzzle.
I did it in 2 seconds.
Can barely hold a sword or stand.
Just need to catch my breath.
I just want a video montage of Layton and all of his sword fights. Almost every game he needs to show them moves :3
Layton is just an all around badass. Smash would be awesome
Still one of the coolest secnes in a game ever!
Still come back to this badass fight! Loved playing the last puzzle as a kid just to watch this banger fight over and over!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Layton for Smash! It's the perfect answer to Wright in Marvel vs. Capcom
Awesome animation, tons of character, and amazing audio quality for the DS times.
Repeatedly press 0:30 for ultimate LAYYTTOOOOOONN
i cant take the crackles but this sword fight is enough to compensate my pain

''No. I am your Grand-daughther!''
*Darth Katya theme plays?*
I loved this game so much...this was my favorite scene in that time...ty for this beautiful memory
lol I can picture this.

"A spot of tea, then?
"Yes, that'd do me good. Something spicy, smokey, and sweet."

When you play the Miracle Mask, his swordsman skills are revealed ;)
I've finally figured out why Anton "steams" during the middle of the fight. He's blowing off the hallucinogenic gas that's causing the illusions, which is why he gets weaker shortly afterwards. His brain is losing the idea that he's young Anton, and (for at least his physical capabilities) is going more towards old Anton.
Or maybe just gets tired because he's old and his body can't take it even though he thinks he's young, dunno
Professor Layton is a BEAST!
layton for smash.
TIL: Anton's voiced by Matt Mercer. You know, THE VOICE OF MCREE, FROM OVERWATCH?
Tumbleflop
wow. like, wow.
Top 10 anime sword fights
what a hardcore sword fighter. I guess that's all part of being a gentleman.
This is pretty much my favorite scene out of all the videogames I've ever played.😄😄😄
This has to be one of the classiest fight scenes I've ever seen.
Gotta love that crackle of the Nintendo Ds struggling to play these sound bytes.
I repeated this so many times just because of how awesome it is.
Anyone realise that in the beginning, Layton uses a quick stance, but after Anton's yell, Layton starts playing defensively?
In The Curious Village when that dude at the market tries to give you the vase, on the top screen it shows you the bottom half of a figure lurking in the shadows. When I say that part, I didn't know Anton was only in The Diabolical Box, and I was like "OH MY GOSH IT'S ANTON EEEEEEEE!!!"

This music is amazing.
0:05 "I didn't think you had it in you, Mr. Layton."
Me neither. I thought he was only a puzzle solver. O_o
Anton and Layton's VA's just had to impersonate Link for half this scene.
You can actually hear this in a little bit of "Theme of the Diabolical Box". It is one of the parts in there, which is in the soundtrack.
I just finished this game today, since I recently got into the Layton series and are playing them in order. I'm really enjoying them so far, too.
It's called The Elysian Box Theme and if you complete this game then you can listen to it in the bonus section, or just find it on here - I think some people have put all the tracks from the soundtrack up.
Yes. This is the most EPIC part of the game. Also the ending was very touching.
the elysian box theme fits so well in the fight, i will never be awful of this cutscene
Me: * literally risking my life in a sword fight *
Luke: * standing there like an
idiot *
Anton: Sophia dear, please explain!
Katia: Anton........ I am your father...
Everyone except Katia: WTF?!?!!!?!?!

Bitch, that's my hat! YOU DON'T TOUCH MY HAT!!!!
i love that scene the music. this game is brilliantly made!!!
What is the OST track playing during this duel? I can't seem to find it...
Josh Bornales It's a section of the main theme. :)
+Jasmine Ah, I see. Much thanks.
Aethervallum You are most welcome. Glad I could help!
You can HEAR the age of this game, yet it's still brilliant in pretty much every way :D
(Also #LaytonForSSBU)
@TheMonkeyMovies The release date for the Last Time Travel is september 20th, 2010. I can't wait either! ^^
That was pretty much the coolest sword fight ever. :D
THIS. IS. THE. BEST. THING. EVER.
ONE WORD. EPIC.
I have these kind of sword fights with my friend (don't worry, we only use plastic ones!)
who would have thought that layton can fence so good...
this is one of my favorite clips
beacause the music fits in so well with the scene
@TheRedGoldfish It's 'the diabolical box theme', just search 'the diabolical box theme' and click on the first video.
@Kleykyle lol it's the Diabolical box theme got to my favorites and you'll find the live version
Yeah, I liked Anton, I found him to be a really interesting character, especially in his "secret" diaries. He was quite calm, sinister, but deluded.
Loved this game! cant wait for the others and the movie! the music kinda reminds me of Dark Chronicle for PS2 if anyone ever played it.
Definitely one of the best fictional sword fights ever!
@TheOrangeBanjo also (in Japan only) there is a manga called Professor Layton and the Cheerful Mystery, and three novels! I forgot what the titles are though...

You know, for a professor who mainly spends most of his life solving mysteries and puzzles, he sure knows how to handle a sword.
While watching this, remember Anton is actually old as shit. Impressive swordplay for his age, even if he did get tired quickly later on.
there is a movie! It's called eternal diva and is out in the US!
This was the most amazing cutscene ever.
Does anyone know what the music for this scene is called, and anywhere I would be able to get a hold of it?
In the bio page after you finish the game's gazillion something puzzles, it mentions that Layton took fencing classes during his college days.
Do you hear the static in the background? Thats the DS about to explode from the epicness of this cut-scene
0:28 steam comes out of Anton "LAAAAYTON!"
I wish someone would shout my name in rage in the middle of a sword fight TAT
Where did the puzzle-master find the time to learn how to sword-fight? Maybe in school? I know that some high schools offer dueling classes....
This was the most epic point of the game and no one can convince me otherwise.
Also is it bad that this made me like 7000% more attracted to Layton? BECAUSE HE IS A GENTLEMAN AND A BAMF AT THE SAME TIME.
I like how Anton is flipping out and Layton's facial expression is just like 'eh' throughout the whole thing.
He's cool with all of this.
Finally someting different then non stop puzzles
@ashlynx1 i heard theres gona be a puzzle round added to it in smash boss the next game version
what is the song playing in the background during the fight?
I had shivers when I watched this.
This was how gentlemen settled disputes back in this era.
does anyone have the music in this video? x) I'ts just so awesome!
I need to find the theme that plays here! It's so great, and though the music in professor layton is usually laid back, this theme fits perfectly.
Ice Link It's actually the main theme for this game! The music used here is closer to the middle of the song. :)
@LupusLapin Part 1: I believe I have a pretty sound theory for that. As we all know, Anton's youth was an illision of the gas in the gold mines. Therefore the gas can get inside the castle.
