- Today's video is very interesting because today we are finding out whether we can play VR on Hardware that is under the minimum requirements. We are going to be taking my main Gaming PC and removing my RX 5700 XT and replacing it with an Nvidia GTX 760 to see how low you can truly go if you are on a budget and want to start playing VR.

I've really been enjoying your Quest content! I think adding more visual information like the minimum specs you read out for example would improve the flow/engagement of your presentation
Thank you very much :) I Agree with you on that one and I will try to add that in the future :)
@@TheMysticle hii, I noticed that you have a rx 5700, is it possible to run games well on a 6600 xt? and how many frames do you have on pavlov with your Grahpics card? ty for the video btw
Damn, this ALMOST got me excited. Looked this up to see if there was a shot is hell i'd be able to run Skyrim VR through virtual desktop on my quest with a pretty suboptimal GPU, and this just about got my hopes up until the only thing you tested was beat saber, a game with notoriously light gpu intensity. I was hoping you would attempt to push the limits of that sad potato you threw in there with something like H-L Alyx to show if it were actually possible.
Really gets my hopes up. Even though I don't have anything fancy like an NVidia, I barely have the minimum requirements. I was talking to my parents about purchasing Virtual Desktop with my own money since it would be fairly cheaper then actually buying items to link my headset to my computer, about wee 10 bucks shorter or so. I already have some things thought out, like reducing lag a smudge and smoothing things out. I read an article with my dad and it seemed pretty helpful. Thanks for releasing this video!
Also, I won't be playing any beefy games, that's for sure. At least until I upgrade my computer's CPU 'n stuff.
And a week later you're at 7k my dude. Good job :D
you deserve it bro
Thank you :D
In less than two weeks, you not only got 1k but 4k!

Today I tried to play VR via Virtual Desktop and my 4 year old laptop with a GTX850M GPU. So, talking about under minimum requirements, this is I think the lowest you can go. ;) We played Sam & Dan Floaty Flat Mates. It lagged like crazy on my Quest, but where Oculus Link just refuses to start at all ("unsupported GPU"), VD did actually run. I also installed a set of mesh routers in my house today (TP Link M9 Plus) and I ran a bit through the house to check how far I can be away from my computer and I was even able to play in my living room, while my laptop was in the attic. Both devices only connected over wifi. I was really surprised that (1st) I was able to play VR on my laptop at all and (2nd) that you can play untethered anywhere in the house. I'm planning to buy a new computer later this year and I was doubting between a laptop and a PC. I initially preferred a laptop as it makes it easier to play anywhere I like, but with today's discovery, I came to the conclusion that a PC might be a better option as I can get better hardware for the same price, plus a PC has better heat management and it's easier to swap out components.
3 weeks and your at 9k Damn keep up the good work

I run my vr consistently with a Nvidia 980ti. I have had no issues with it.
Well, that's all great and all, but that's above requirements, not below them
I have a normal 970 and i have little issues
Yeah my MSI 970 gaming edition runs fine as car as I can see. Running i5 6600k clicked to 4.4ghz.
I’m not surprised, that is above recommended specs...

I have a 1050ti (which I think is more powerful than 760) and while I "can" afford a better gpu, I'm not willing to pay double the price I should. thanks for showing me it will work for now. Also I would assume overclocking the gpu would help.
1050ti is around the equivalent to the 770 I think, which is what i have!

By the way! Don't forget about steams resolution scaling options! You can lower how much resolution you are pushing to the headset, making the FPS go right up!
I was playing VRChat with the resolution turned to 35% , on a AMD R7 240 2gb.
It defo didn't look pretty, but... It worked! Next I wanna try and run it on integrated Intel graphics, haha!
How do I have the same card????? Lol what a coincidence!
how do i lower the resolution ?

It's nice to know I don't have to break the bank for a graphics card to handle some steam vr games!! Thanks! I'm thinking about just building a bare bones pc that can handle vr. Any suggestions?
That's a good idea to start off. In fact thats what I did when I was beginnning, If you can I would say stick to the minimum requirements, that way you know you can have a decent VR experience :)
this guy was talking about hitting 5k subscribers and now has 100+k? gah damn that was just two years ago too lol glad to see you've come a long way in such a short time

So tired of people saying you NEED a MINIMUM of a GTX 970 to play VR when even the manufacturers say a 1050ti is the minimum xD Thanks for this video I love that you tested an actual LOW end gpu and not a basline Recomended GPU like so many have done.
No but seriosly manufactures are wrong gtx 970 is cappable of playing vr games i mean even a gtx 750 ti can play simple and a few more complex vr games

You can pick up a basic rift CV1 touch bundle for less than 200$ on letgo
get the quest 2 and a good 16ft (5 meters) usb 3.2 cable if you have a pc, better than rift s
Ty for this video,It helped me alot.I'm an owner of gtx 780 3gb and i will have to use it to pc vr on oculus quest 2 when i will buy it in nearby feature. My card is a little bit better, but atleast i know, that it can run vr
I have the next step up from what you demonstrated, a GTX 970, running on an FX8350 AMD cpu. I "can" run a lot of the not so detailed games, but the flight simulator has to have all it's sliders to the left, and even then, when on the ground, there's a lot of wavy, shimmery, pixcelation going on. X-Plane's not nearly as bad, though. But, when I tried the cable, I had the same issue with the whole show being brought to it's knees. Had to use Airlink, instead. Desperately trying to save for an Alienware, but I'm on disability, and only have a third of it covered, at the moment. Fingers crossed. Lots of patience. Maybe in another year the RTX3070/80s will have come down, a bit. LOL Thanks for the video.
He’s the next Linus
Well hopefully that doesn't mean I drop everything I own because I don't have that much money xD
Subbed. Great content 👍
The thing that i hate the most is that i never had the minimum specs requiered, but the first week i was able to play pcvr on Quest 2, later i wasn't able to, or maybe the minimum specs are randomly changing for no aparent reason
Love this channel
Posting VR stuff like oculus quest news is hot, all things people don't generally know (resolution tweaks, etc), showing off really good VR games, also playthroughs perhaps. gameplay stuff, interesting accessoiry's
congrats for over 100k subs in a year
I tested the Intel iris and had some strange outcomes. To my surprise vr chat worked.
Could you try assetto corsa in vr on the 760 pls I have just built my first pc going from console on friends advice, I have a gtx 980 with i5 8500 im getting the quest 2 soon as I can afford it but I only play sim racers really enjoying your content btw hope the gpu is ok after the drop 😬
bro this is 1 year back and hes talking bout 5k while he now (one year later) is at damn over 50k, good job man
I have a question. how did you manage to use the oculus link if gtx 760 it is not part of the compatibility list on oculus link gpu support?
If you go below the AMD graphics card section you'll see "Bear in mind that if your card isn't listed under "Supported", we can't guarantee compatibility."
this guy deserves more subscribers
Hmmm for your rift s, Have you tried to update the displayport firmware of your GC?
Got AltspaceVR working on an 18 year old computer, top that noob 😆 LOL. I kid I kid your doing great things.
So crazy thing is. My main gaming PC has a GTX680 and a Phenom 2 x6 in it. Nowhere near close to the minimum specs for VR.
Yet it absolutely works, some games are too intensive like Saints and Sinners to properly run but Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Synth Riders? They're so well optimized that they run on lower end hardware despite the Oculus software nagging me that my PC doesn't meet the minimum specs.
And i tried a mini PC yesterday that has a Ryzen 3 3200u with built in Vega 3 graphics...Beat Saber runs flawlessly on it. If you don't play super intensive game, VR is in everyone's reach.
2 years later and up to 148k! nicely done!
That drop hurt my soul 💀
If you’re ever looking for music to play in your videos, my little bro is a master pianist.
I have a GTX 670, so you're one above me on your lowest card.
Anyway Beat Saber just downloaded, already plugged in and connected. Wish me luck!
Update: it exploded. Literally. Had to order a new card, 1650 oc.
In 6 days U got to 5k great job man
:D
What settings did you have Mysticle for steam/steamvr because I have a GPU very close to yours its either a GTX 760 or somewhere around there.
I have a gtx 1050 ti an i5-8400 and 8gb ram, few tweaks with settings and my games run all fine, blade and sorcery I get 80fps+ on u8.49 with default settings and a mod or two some games take a while to load in like arizona sunshine but it runs smoothly with a few stutters sometimes
3:40 in the video
me: what were they requesting?!??
My pc contains a ryzen 3 3200g, 16gb of 3000mhz hyperX predator ram, and windows 7 (don't question it xd). But the gpu is under the minimum for the quest 2 link. The min. requierment was a gtx970 but i have a gtx750TI. And without a lag it can run games just fine. So far only the fallout 4 vr lagged but for example half lify alyx runs just fine.
my heart fell outa my ass when you dropped that gpu lol
XD
Fudgen finally. Now what about the oculus 2 and just getting games like Skyrim running? My computer can play it and it’s modded. It’s literally all I want is to do is play modded Skyrim on vr.
ok im in subbed!!
This was great
The graphics card you put into your computer in the video is 10 above mine. I can't afford another one. ;-;
Edit: Just sold my 3DS, XL Home Designer Ed, and about to sell some 3DS Games and old Xbox One games. I will finnally have enough for a 1060! I cannot thank this channel enough for the conetent and the fantastic dedication this man sends our way for us.
Holy crap he pulled a Linus. Haha! Trust me I felt that all the way here!
Thank you for your videos.. Can you recommend for us budget laptops for vr.
Thanks
I mean there aren't really any Budget VR laptops. Every VR ready laptop I know is over 1000euro :(
“Let’s get to 5k”, yeah I think you got a little further than that 😂
You could hear the worry in his voice when he dropped it. Like his whole life flashed before him. He was so scared!
What would you suggest right now in today's current climate for a graphics card? Try to do my first budget build and finding it difficult to find a card
How did you get the game to run when you was under the minimum requirements
So here some more Info,
1: DONT DO THIS, i played VR with a RX550 and fried 3 motherboards
2:dropping stuff is Linus's job
3: the reason it got giga laggy when trying to record is because it will move a ton of the load onto the CPU so with OBS it is real bad
You deserve more subs
Thank You
A while back, I tried to play on a 960, the oculus home worked, but every icon was pink and green, and was glitchy. I tried to launch a game, it broke instantly, it renderered like one frame, stopped responding. However, you did use steamvr, and I didn’t, which could be a difference. But the 970 is not recommended I don’t believe, I think that’s an ABSOLUTE minimum, so it’s too be expected my 960 didn’t work. It’s also why I bought a 1060 and not a 970 afterwards, you want to stay at least a few generations above the requirements
I have a rx 580 and a i3 spent 250 for them all together and my vr experiences are great
And man what a drop😂
My friend played vr with a 1050ti for years until I got him to upgrade. Funny he thought it was fine before until he felt how much better the 2070 is
for some reason i was playing pcvr for a while and i stopped for a little bit and played normal games on the oculus then i ccame back onto my pc after a few weeks and it just says my pc isnt good enough
I see this video has been uploaded some time ago but i really need advice, i wanted to play some Steam VR on my Oculus Quest 2 and had a link cable just bought, in order to try if VR would work i startet up No Man's Sky that is VR compatible, and as soon as i only startet Steam VR EVERYTHING was extremely laggy. Whenever i make fast turns i see black on the sides and then it's loading in. When i managed to start NMS it was also so laggy that you couldn't play it. My main goal was to be able to play HL Alyx, but if this already dosen't work i don't really want to try it, as i said it just lags and needs to load in whenever i turn, do you have any advice on why this happens? My PC may not be the best but i have a GTX 1050.
Hey I have a question. I wasnt thinking and bought virtual desktop. Are you able to play vr with a 100 cpu pc?
Hello I love ur vids
Thank you :)
You deserved it bro big 11 k nowww

Is there a way to PCVR without a supported card? I have a Nvidia 940mx 2gb and quad core i7 (unsupported), 16gb DDR4. I know I will never be able to play intensive games but there is a few I've been wanting to try (Half-Life 2, Portal, Morrowind, New Vegas) and I know I can easily get 1440p 60+ with those games. I remember when I discovered how to play vr on my pc. I had no hope, since my pc is kinda low to mid end, but surprisingly it works! it runs a lot of games (with a lot of lag sadly, idk if there's a way to fix it)
