- You need to listen to this podcast or "I will stuff so much cotton wool down your fucking throat it'll come out your arse like the tail on a Playboy bunny." Michael and Abe sit down with Daniel O'Brien to discuss the political satire In The Loop. If it weren't full of soul-crushing insults, this 2009 political satire may feel a bit too close home so listeners beware. "I've just told you to fuck off twice yet you're still here?"

DOB!! We love you DOB, we're so proud of you for working for Oliver
You guys should watch "Yes, Minister"; it is a masterful deconstruction of the inner workings of government while at the same time being incredibly accessable and wickedly funny. Seriously some of the wittiest writing in British comedy history, and that's saying something.
Yeah, along with Spitting Image & The New Statesmen, great television!
I firmly agree with Yes Minster/Yes Prime Minister. Armando Iannucci took a lot of influence from it, hell, he was the man pushing it for the vote in Britian's Best Sitcom in 2004. The top 10 shows all had an hour presentation of the show with the cast and crew talking about their said shows and one presenter who would be campaigning for it! ruclips.net/video/TBtKm9HuFs4/видео.html
Being able to insult you're friends with person comments is literally the culture of Britain
I thought exactly this. Its the very definition of banter :)
HCWS your*
Those savage insults between the characters is how most friends in england will tallk to eachother. WE love savaging eachother for the fun of it, its a great british tradition.
40:03 He could've said Peter Capaldi is always set at 12.
Love this movie and The Thick of It. I want to be Malcolm Tucker when I grow up!
That is horrifying! Good luck!
@@newflesh666 "THIS JOB WILL FUCKING DESTROY YOU! DO YOU WANT THAT!?!" "This sounds like the kind of rant you post to RUclips before you blow your brains out, Malcolm."
Always happy to get a small beans notification. keep up the good work guys!
My favourite people on my favourite podcast discussing one my favourite films! To be honest the movie pales in comparison a bit with the TV show, but still, a mini masterpiece. Armando Iannucci is a great writer.
On one hand you have Mike, the other you have Abe, then in the gripping hand you have Dan. Dan used that refrence back on a chanel that shall never be named, and earned unconditional credit, he knows everything.
Fantastic and highly relevant film. Thanks gang!
I actually think it's sad that these guys don't think that throwing carefully crafted personal insults at your closest friends is possible. Not only doesl that mode of communication exist, it's often the only way you can know someone can be trusted. I personally am only polite to strangers and people I don't like.
In fairness though, I'm Australian and they're from the US. In my culture we definitely converse very differently than Americans, and probably Californians are more sensitive than most.
Thanks for keeping together guys, Small Beans rocks.
Malcolm does everything in order to maintain his position in the political structure. He needs to be needed and irreplacable. He needs to be in the loop (see his reaction to the solo meeting with the young American staffer) Malcolm gives some indication that he is personally discomfited by the outcomes but he does not ever stop.
Come to Scotland, most of us banter to the bone and everyone knows it's all just a bit of fun. Well except for my brother, he's living in hell
TRAIN TRAIN there’s a fucking TRAIN
There is some stuff that is a direct reference to stuff you wouldn't really know unless you were familiar with British politics in the 00s.
It's interesting cause one of you said the changing of the dossier was when it stepped out of rreality. That was a real thing,, was commonly referred to as the sex-ed up dossier.

The line about being hounded into suicide was also a reference to the author of the report and I think head weapons inspector became the subject of intense press scruitiny and pressure from the government and was found dead having committed suicide, probably as a direct result.
Quite a lot of the jokes and absurd things that happen are based on real things.
I like dob in the sense i suspect people put up with me, im nigh unbeatable in jeopardy, and, im sure other things. Thats really my only talent per say.
Yes watch death of stalin
Oh nice pick
Yay
Look I know this doesn't matter and I'm being petty but it's just called "The Thick of It", there's no "in the" at the beginning and for some reason, it's a thing I've noticed American's get wrong a lot. Did they change the name for a US release or something?
To be fair, me and my girlfriend are probably the sole reason it's still on the UK Netflix, having watched it, no joke, hundreds of times (you can imagine how dull we are, but we have a rich tapestry of insulting references to draw on), and even we occasionally say In The Thick Of It. Very occasionally mind. It happens is what I'm saying.
I am a man, y'know? Y'know?!
No, didn't change the name. People here just get it wrong, if they even know it exists.
"He's Doctor Who now."
Um...not since 2017
No, he's entered the canon. He's the Doctor
@@sloaneglover1026 Once the Doctor, always the Doctor, I suppose.
@@ScottKorin well not John Hurt
Would love to watch this, but kind of unbearable without you watching thick of it before hand
I kind of dislike Daniel but I love this movie, will give this a look :D
