This is the song that introduced me to my favorite band! This was on heavy rotation on the US MTV, and I went out and bought Some Great Reward and fell in love with this band! They continue to write powerful songs today!
I've been into Depeche Mode for so long I remember when this was released the first time. My favorite DM song is "Somebody" written by Martin Gore off the album Some Great Reward, which is a great album. It got overplayed when it was released the 2nd time (not long after the 1st time - within the year), so for the longest time I could not listen to this song. I loved it, but I was very punker than thou back then, so I was dismissive of the people who decided they loved the song when it was re-released. Now I don't care when people discover DM (or Joy Division, Erasure, Psych Furs, Madness, The English Beat, The Specials, The Damned, etc.) as long people come to it and appreciate them as I do. Sadly, this song is still too pertinent 35 years after it was written.
I'm very sorry to hear that y'all have received hate from people over your race. It is a very unfortunate reality of the world we live in. In any case, I love all of your reactions and insights! Sending love from the United States!
Such a nice married Couple! Such a Beautiful wife! Glad you both like Depeche Mode. The way I got into Depeche Mode was.....A class mate was a big fan of Depeche Mode, and I thought he was just crazy listening to such pop music. Then later in Life I decided to give Depeche Mode a try, and bought their "Ultra" Album. It was the greatest Album with so many hits.
"People Are People" is my favorite Depeche Mode song, but they haven't played it in concert since 1988 ... because, I read on Wikipedia, if you can believe Wikipedia, that they think the message and lyrics are too straight-forward and don't leave anything to the imagination or to interpretation! :-) It has a great message and a catchy melody and sound!
I've been a casual depeche mode fan since a young age. I discovered this song maybe a year ago and it instantly resonated with me. It may be a bit direct and to the point, but it's an important point. Why so much hate amongst us? Thank you for a great reaction.
This message of this song is so eternally relevant...unfortunately. Such a pioneering band...extracting the best out of new music-making technology as it appeared. Another great 'headphone song' is "Blasphemous Rumours"...a very dark lyric and fascinating/creative soundscape.
This is some great 80’s pop. Depeche Mode takes me back to that wonderful decade. Great reaction. I loved your analysis and it was spot on about the human race.
The albums Construction Time again, Some Great Reward, and Black Celebration were kind of industrial. The band made music by sampling sounds and putting those sounds to rhythm! Some Great Reward is a GREAT album. So many good songs and interesting music!
Yeah, Depeche Mode's music has evolved quite a bit over the years. Perhaps its as much nostalgia as anything else, but I still prefer their older works such as this one. Another commenter mentioned "Everything Counts", but also "Blasphemous Rumours"...one of my favorite songs to this day. Really, you can't go wrong just putting their 101 double album in and letting it play through. Oh, regarding animals not acting awkwardly around members of their own species: I can tell you've never been around cats. :p
You are not like everyone else. You are open minded and you are nice. It would be wonderful if you were like everyone else. But you’re not. Thank you for that.
Great, great song and great discussion afterwards! Always enjoy you reactions! It would be nice if we could all get along but it's not going to happen overnight. The world gets smaller every day and I can see us all getting closer in time! Take care and have a great day!
You both love Boston then you will absolutely love Chicago - Saturday In The Park - 25 or 6 to 4 - Color My World - Beginnings - Dialogue - Stronger Every Day - I've Been Searching So Long
They haven't played this song live since the late 80s, because in their opinion the lyrics are too simple. Still a very catchy tune, though. Check out 'Everything Counts' and 'Never Let Me Down Again'. The '101 Live' versions of these two songs are fantastic.
I've always enjoyed this song a lot, but after hearing the A Perfect Circle cover, I have to say that I prefer the cover. This is still really good, but APC brings a far more pensive tone to the song which I really appreciate. So I still listen to this original every now and then, but I listen to the cover a lot more.
every baby ever born is a King or a Queen why ? when a Baby is Born, we are all born with a crown on our heads, therefore we are the master or the mistress of our own home, life and properties that are all private to us alone... and also therefore every one has their own private trust estate where all assets and funds are held this is in the public office held with the country Treasury Dep... this is your public office and all within it are all your trustees... as are the Beneficiary to your own private trust... its where you get what called your social security its your what ? The summum of the 80's electro-pop. Try '' Everything counts'' of the same era, a classic of genre.
