  • Aaron shows you how to open canned food without a can opener. This may come in handy if you’re quarantined during the Corona Virus outbreak, you have canned food, but your can opener breaks or you lose it. This video has no fancy tools but super-common household items. Aaron uses nail clippers, a hole punch, a spoon, and a pizza cutter among other items. Enjoy!

It's surprisingly effective. There is some satisfaction for using the key and rock method.

You saved the night for me. Thank you. I used the needle nose pliers method. I broke through in the second stab I made. I could then pinch some metal on the lid and roll the pliers to peal it back plenty. And there's my dinner. I even cooked and ate the soup all from the can. 😋

Forgot one. If you rub the lid on an abrasive surface it rubs off the lip of the metal and the lid will come off

Should you have one, a regular can opener can open those huge coffee can size cans.

@@ALinsdau The food *can makers are changing the shape of their rims* to perplex people. Even at the starting point, sometimes the *cutting tip doesn't even go down to make a connection with the top.* The rims are higher and the tops lower. Are can food makers in *cahoots* with the can-opening industry to sell more openers?

Wikipedia "By 1820, canned food was a recognized article in Britain and France and by 1822 in the United States.[1] The first cans were robust containers, which weighed more than the food they contained and required ingenuity to open, using whatever tools available. The instruction on those cans read "Cut round the top near the outer edge with a chisel and hammer."[2][3] The gap of decades between the invention of the can and can opener may be attributed to the functionality of existing tools versus the cost and effort of a new tool.[4]"

I think(and this is just a theory) if someone is searching for alternative ways to open cans i think they are at the point where they care more bout food than picking bits of metal out of their mouths. They don't call it survival of the fittest because it has a nice ring to it ya know.

Concur with that. These look like WWIII frontline emergency efforts. You'd have to be sure the utensil is thoroughly clean. And forget about using the can for any later use.
