  • The Battle of Talladega was a bitter engagement fought in November 1813 as Andrew Jackson pushed south into the Muscogee or Creek Nation.
The general's Tennessee troops fought Red Stick Creek warriors for control of Fort Leslie, a small stockade in today's Talladega, Alabama. Many of the warriors came from the Hillabee towns, while the soldiers included American frontiersman Davy Crockett. It was a bitter and bloody battle that, according to U.S. writers, left hundreds of Native American warriors dead. The Red Sticks also fought with great courage, bloodying Jackson's army in his first action as a commander of troops on the field.

Thank you very much. As an addition to the story, The Archaeological Conservancy just purchased part of the site of Fort Leslie where the U.S.-allied Creeks were cornered during the battle.

We definitely agree! No one has written one specifically on the Battle of Talladega.

I was just down there and the only thing I saw was the sign by the courthouse. I didn’t know they had other monuments to this battle. I really missed out.

Written history is, that is true. At least for a while. The other side eventually creeps out.
