I live in Colonia. Its beautiful.I would recommend longer that one day, preferably 10 years. Talking more with the locals in small towns will help you find out what to do there. But the beauty is the beaches, nature and the slow pace.Theres lots of mini festivals and markets especially in the summer. And the mosquitos aren't that bad. Super recommend the buen suspiro restaurant
The mosquitos' invasion took all as by surprise (today end of march there are still quite a lot around)- From time to time (maybe each 15/20 years) it happens, but not such a huge cloud. They are supose to come from more tropical climate travelling down by Paraná and Uruguay rivers, because of unusual heat, rain and humidity. Climate change, we think, is putting things worse. If you keep on living at Buenos Aires you´ll have the chance to visit Montevideo and the east coast of Uruguay in the future, I hope so, and with no invasors. Keep on travelling and enjoying.
I experienced a LOT of mosquitos in Guadalajara (especially in Zapopan) 😫 I've never been bit so much in my entire life! I know what a damper that can put on things. On another note, those empanadas looked amazing!
Believe me, Colonia del Sacramento is just to visit one and only one day, otherwise you'll be bored to dead and counting the minutes to come back to Buenos Aires trust me
hi guys! this was the first really insanly bad experience about mosquitos in this city, im from BA. But i think maybe the global warming and also the amazonas cuted by Bolsonaro in Brasil changed everything and increase the tropical weather in summer here. Also we have the corriente del niño this time and bring a lot of rain.
I see you weren’t aware of Colonia being a small town before going there. It’s a historical town and one day is enough. It’s usually visited while travelling to other parts of the country. You should plan better.
Wait, what? You didn't plan anything for Uruguay? (Lol) What a cute town, it's a shame you had to deal with the mosquitos, but as always your glass is half full and you find the best in a not-the-best situation. Patagonia, yay!
I dont get travelers who say stuff like - this place is only worth staying for a day, there isnt much to do. sounds like heaven to me. this "doing stuff" is way overrated. maybe you will get it in another 25 years. shitty deal about the mosquitoes both here and in Buenos Aires. I know I had one or two trips where mosquitoes were a pain (of course I cant remember which ones they were now), but certainly nothing like this. maybe in northern Ontario in the month of May. I'm also not a fan of the brown sea water in this part of the world, although the sunset sort of fixed that problem.
I spent some time in Uruguay just to get it off the list. Was ok, similar to Argentina in regards to culture. Not much to do in there, one day trip should be fine.
Is another state from Argentina lol , and the waitress was lying oh mosquitoes are just today , please girl I know they’re tourists but there’s not mosquitoes for just one day

Lo que pasa que Colonia es un lugar histórico y pequeño. Tendrían que haber ido a Montevideo .

Despite the mosquitoes, Colonia looks beautiful! I could easily spend a day or two there.

The city itself looks amazing, but my God, these bugs would drive me crazy.

Colonia is way too expensive and Uruguay in general as wealthy Argentineans have properties there.

Colonia isn't expensive, the old town and surroundings (aka: the tourist trap) is expensive. The rest of Colonia is cheaper than Montevideo.
