I know it is to late but you should have put a strip of rubber between the backside of the panel and the frame rib for a thermal break (to slow the thermal conductivity ).

The Rock Wool you used has an r rating of 13. We used the same stuff in the ceiling of our basement below our bedroom.

That is exactly what I did. I used Roxul, though. It was the first rock wool I found, so I just stayed with it. Bit more expensive, though. The sound deadening is amazing.

Totally agree about the interior aluminum. I'm so pissed that I didn't do it.

Really nice jobs! My wife and I are going to start putting on some skins and I'm dreading the cuts around the windows. Do you have any tricks or tips for that? You make it look so easy :)

they make recycled demem and bg collon in bat form .fire proof and better insulation value .. great to work with. cost 3 times other insulation but you need only a small amount. best thing it does not transfer base tone so much quieter for sound . great stuff

I’m actually doing a frame off rebuild restomod on a 73 Sovereign. I think you honestly have the most in-depth how to videos. Maybe I missed it did you say what grade and or where you got your new aluminum from. I’m in the same boat. It’s going to be new. Thanks for your videos, the trailer has come a long ways!

I don't think I did in this video. Its 5054 .040 wall. You can do .035 but I wouldn't go thinner (interior walls are technical structural), I think .035 is what factory is but my supply didn't have it. I used Metal Supermarkets, they have a location close to me in Ft Worth. Airparts.com has all the Airstream metal. And thanks, I am glad to hear that my videos are helpful!

    Hello,
First off I'm glad I found your you tube channel and of course I subscribe to it. what a terrific job you you have done on your airstream, I do a question on your painted panels, what kind of preparation did you have to do and what type of paint did you use. Any suggestions and tips from you would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You do very good work but my concern is the insolation. As a RV owner my next one since I like to be at the beach in high heat I am looking for R40 if possible to be 75 inside at 100 outside.

Where do I find you talking about/recommending the electric shears & nibblers? I’ve watched so many vids and yours multiple times and can only find the milwake nibbler link. I think I need those electric shears . I tried a cheap air nibbler and it’s doing a crap job. Thanx

I am wondering if I missed a video. Our 2000 30 ft Excella has self stick wall paper applied over what looks to be a felt like material that is original. It was done by the previous owner and keeps coming off and was cut very poorly with gaps etc. Do you have any suggestions to deal with the felt like material under the wall paper if I remove it the wall paper? Can it be painted without stripping it off? The videos I have watched on that look painful.
I am new to your channel and have been enjoying it. I find myself wanting to completely renovate ours but don't have the time yet. I watched your video on the sub floor and it made me nervous. When we got the trailer this spring it had a terrible leak dripping down the window just in front of the door. I took the window appart and didn't find anything there but found the water was wicking around the zip de awning. I put some shoe goo on the end temporarily between the rain storms and the leak stopped quickly. I then took the front vinyl flooring off and found the floor had been previous repaired and was rotten in the corner. I removed it to the stringer and back to the outrigger just in front of the door and removed the insulation. There were 3 corrosion holes in the belly pan I repaired then re insulated and put new plywood back with notches to go around the bolts going through the c channel after filling the channel with Mulco Flextra sealant. After watching your video I am worried about the structural integrity of the front corner now. I suspect the rotten plywood was not providing any structure there for several years but wonder if I should have done things differently now. Is there anything to watch for to indicate the structure is compromised? There is no visible sag.
We are Canadian so can't bring it into the US currently because of Covid but would love to have you have a look at it when we can.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello, it looked like you were using a drill and not a rivet gun for the aluminum around the window. Is that accurate? If so, what were you drilling into?

What are the things that you are sticking in the wall to hold the aluminum up as you work it? Am buying a 26 ft Caravanner to redo. Thx. Ed

I was wondering if it would make sense to flip the skins over on the flat ones and then take the vinyl off the ones that are curved?

I have a question-we took out our rear fiberglass cap and don't want to put it back in. What did you use to secure strips of aluminum? There is no structural support there just the skin-Any help would be greatly appreciated

Can I remove the interior panels but leave the finished floor intact? My hardwoods and subfloor is solid. I just need to redo the walls and not rip up hardly used bamboo floors

Can you put wood for interior walls? Or does it have to be aluminum

  • @tessamarie95

Hi, we're also renovating an old airstream. I've heard that maybe we should replace the inner walls with thin wood instead of aluminum because condensation will build up on the walls? any thoughts on this? We'd prefer not to have to fabricate new walls when the old ones are fine!

    • @geoffreyfaidit1310

Hey, any feedback on that? We have also decided to use wood to do our inner skin because of condensation. :)

What tool do you use to cut the window cutouts in the aluminum? I'm doing a lot of research about everything I don't know; thinking about finding a project in the next little while.

The Makita Nibbler is fantastic for cutting out aluminum. Here is the link to it. amzn.to/35lbtzO

@@MillerGarage have you used other , cheaper nibbler models? im sure the makita is awesome on the high end of tools but I see 1/3 the price nibblers avail, curious of your thoughts. thank you.

@@kitchy I also own a Klutch (Northerntool brand) air nibbler and was not a fan. It would get really hot and the aluminum would mar and bind up and stick to the pin. I have not used any other brand air nibbler and perhaps at a lower pressure it would work better. The opening is also a lot smaller and sharp edged than the Makita so it didn't turn well and scratched the aluminum.

@@MillerGarage great thanx man. I’m thinking I’ll try a cheap air Canadian made nibbler and air riveter at princess auto. I have a big compressor. Any objections on cheaper end air tools? I want your awesome riveter and nibbler but that sure dents the budget.

what type of fasteners are you using to attach the interior vinyl skins?

    • @MillerGarage
      @MillerGarage  5 лет назад +2

I am using 1/8 inch aluminum rivets. Be sure to not use stainless or steel shank ones, it will cause corrosion.
