I like this a lot. The especially interesting part to me is that this system only achieves quasi stability because it *isn't* in a vacuum, whereas so much physics taught in the classroom assumes a vacuum to the point of borderline ignorance. Without the air to act as an ion channel needed to achieve negative feedback, it seems like this system would have exactly one unstable equilibrium point somewhere near the midpoint between the plates and getting it to sit there would be like balancing a pencil on its sharpened tip. I wonder if gluing some very small neutral mass (like individual grains of rice or something) would make the smaller foil even easier to control, since there will be a little more mechanical inertia in the system while the electrical side is relatively unchanged.
@@dark_destiny187 that's awesome, that means when we see that on movies it's not "for show" it's known to be how the phenomenon occurs. My father and I used to listen to his CB radio, and during thunderstorms the frequency of the energy building up could be tracked and lightning strikes were easily predicted by the sound of the charge.
Maybe the storm is not needed it's all about tuning into the frequency of the energy around said craft and components.. while rapidly charging and discharging.. crazy

Very cool indeed. Since Thomas Townsend Brown in 1928 there have been many 'ion wind' experiments and almost a paper per year is written about the effect. I wonder if there would be any improvement if the foil was shaped like the star trek logo, though to have it snad up initially may need to be a tripod There's also a vid wth a guy levitating polystyrene balls and paper

I am afraid there are more than those three levitation processes.. - Magnetic levitation. - Electrostatic levitation. - Aerodynamic levitation. - Gas film levitation. - Acoustic levitation. - Optical levitation. - Buoyant levitation. - Casimir force. …and my favorite one *Meissner effect* the superconductor phenomena
Just one thing about safety: It is wrong to say that "if you keep one hand in your pocket electricity wouldn't flow in your chest". Actually, the current flowing in your heart is double than the right hand-left hand case! You can learn more by searching electrical safety and pathway on Google (i don't know how that factor is called in english, sorry)
Come on guys , it’s just a scientific video , he can’t learn safety rules in 10 second to people, he just show how it can be , any one interested to learn can search in google , just let the people to enjoy that video
@@mohsenaghdam3136 but i've enjoyed that! It was awesome to see the piece of aluminum foil following his finger! If i "rectify" a concept that some people can misunderstand it doesn't mean i didn't like the video :)
Hey, fair enough! I'll be honest, i've tested the one hand rule while doing this, and shocking myself. Honestly, across the chest is terrible. Absolutely terrifying. When I am shocked standing on the foil....no biggie. The arm just twitches is all. I dont know the numbers, I just know I tested it, and the one hand rule still protects you somewhat.
@@PlasmaChannel I can confirm that it hurts more if you take it from both hands (honestly, me and electroboom have similar experience with shocks xD). But more pain doesn't mean necessarily more current through your heart, which is the thing to care about. The one hand rule anyway has his pros, when i play with arcs i also use only the right hand, but for preventing to close a circuit with my body and because you are more focused on what you're doing with that hand (also because the right hand is a bit farther from the heart than the left). Have you tried doing the experiment standing on the plastic stool with the aluminum wrapped on your elbow? Sholdn't it work anyway? If yes, is the safest case, because current should flow only in your forearm
Jay, you continue to inspire, awe and inform! One of your coolest videos to date, and that's saying slot given how many great ones you've made! I have two questions. 1. If not too much trouble can you do a short video explaining/shoimg how you improved the power supply for the voltage multiplier? Or make a Patreons post with pictures and a bit of text describing, if that is easier. 2. When you stand on the plate, are you wearing shoes or are you barefoot/wearing socks? (Normally I'd swear you had to be barefoot, but high voltage can do some funny things with things that are normally insulating, like soles of shoes, lol
Hey Justin! That is really nice of you to say. I put a lot of work into this video, and knowing that you enjoyed it is great. as for 1) really great recommendation. I'm more than happy to do that for my patreons 2) I am barefoot when standing on the foil. Using socks results in my feet not being in complete contact with the foil, so sparks jump between the cotton and burn me. Full contact is a must!
I came here from Mehdi's channel.. I love it! I guess I will have to peruse your channel a bit and take in the sites here.. I may just sub up this looks like another cool place to hang out.. And believe me when you 68 you need all the cool places you can get! carry on!
This might be the best video on your channel after Fire Bending. At 5:48, you showed your right hand inside the pocket. But if someone does that, it will cause electricity to flow through left hand or left side of body. I was relieved to see you using right hand for the experiment. That was really a cool and dangerous experiment to try.
Hey Tarun! Glad you enjoyed it so much. Yeah, the one hand rule, regardless of hand, will still protect your heart as opposed to a shocking going across both arms / chest. But, right hand is definitely better. Cool stuff right?
5:18 what if you charge your body up to 70.000 voltz Answer : you die and end up looking like darth Vader whit no cool suit but you'll still have the breathing noise
Funny thing is you already get regularly charged thousands of volts. That doorknob shock after wearing plastic slippers? Those slippers charged you couple of thousand volts. Enough to make an arc.

Great experiment. Please note that the "one hand rule (you put your right hand in your pocket)," 5:50 is actually the "Left Hand Rule" (which you properly followed during the actual experiment. Emphasis should be that you don't want current flowing "through your heart". If you're standing on the HV source touching with your right hand, the heart is not involved in the path.
ElectroBOOM's response to this video brought me here. This levitation experiment is so beautiful and cute! And you're a great physics host: +1 subscribers.
@@PlasmaChannel yes! Did you receive my last email? :D my next project is a small dual resonant solid State tesla coil. Have you ever built a sstc or a drsstc? I Think you will love it ;)
Great video. Even tho it seams you used right hand for the experiment, you showed the "one hand rule" with your left hand. It should be noted that "one hand rule" should be "right hand rule" as most dangerous electric shock path is not hand-to-hand but left hand to right foot (as the electricity goes straight through the heart). If there is a risk of getting shocked through your feet, you should absolutely always use your right hand in "one hand rule".

There's also a vid wth a guy levitating polystyrene balls and paper
ruclips.net/video/u-OXXKCLSQE/видео.html yes the shape affect the results.
Hi Gabe. I saw your comment about having done this before. It appears you are correct. Nice work.
Thank goodness for 2 am rabbit holes. Fantastic video.
Your name... is Fire. Im honored you enjoyed my viddy!
Vengó de parte de UPDT :'D
Awesome I love learning about this as I am currently studying and practicing telekinesis.
ALGUIEN VINO POR UPDT?
Yo xd
Whoa! That's pretty damn cool man. Nice 1 👍
It amused me a lot, it is a bit similar to Xeon Ion Engine (the ion wind)
Absolutely amazing, entertaining, and education video! Well worth the wait! Incredible work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nobody:

Every human in 50 years: *YEEEEEET*
🤨🧐only those 3. I am afraid there are more than those three levitation processes..
- Magnetic levitation.
- Electrostatic levitation.
- Aerodynamic levitation.
- Gas film levitation.
- Acoustic levitation.
- Optical levitation.
- Buoyant levitation.
- Casimir force.
…and my favorite one *Meissner effect* the superconductor phenomena
Just one thing about safety:
It is wrong to say that "if you keep one hand in your pocket electricity wouldn't flow in your chest".
Incrível
Parabéns pelo bom rabalho
You just beat every magician on America's got talent. Totally loved it. Sometimes it's worth waiting for your videos.
You know, I really appreciate that! Thanks so much.
One day Time Travel will be possible with high voltage....😃
Mark my words....🔥
Time Travel may be improbable, but dimensional travel may be probable...
I came here from Mehdi's channel.. I love it! I guess I will have to peruse your channel a bit and take in the sites here.. I may just sub up this looks like another cool place to hang out.. And believe me when you 68 you need all the cool places you can get! carry on!
I from un poco de todo
Welcome to my channel, friend!
@@PlasmaChannel Electrifying and Awesome
5:18 what if you charge your body up to 70.000 voltz
Answer : you die and end up looking like darth Vader whit no cool suit but you'll still have the breathing noise
Funny thing is you already get regularly charged thousands of volts. That doorknob shock after wearing plastic slippers? Those slippers charged you couple of thousand volts. Enough to make an arc.
It's the amps that kills
This looks super cool
This guy talks like grant from King of Random and uses gestures like veritaseum...
I'm honored you compared me to such youtube classics. Thank you.
He is his own unique person 😊🙏
@@PlasmaChannel there's also a bit of Michael in there from Vsauce in there too.
ofcorse that isn't to say your content isn't original or good because it certainly is has someone lower pointed out I didn't realise that my comments sounded negative... I was excited when I posted this comment, ive found a new creator✌😁👍
@@KeiranR Hey, I interpreted it not in any negative way at all. Again, i'm honored to have you in my Plasma Fam!
Nice man!!
dang u got awsome stuff i dont know why u dont have like 10 million subs u deserve it bro
ruclips.net/video/u-OXXKCLSQE/видео.html
Yeah look i did the same thing and i have even less subscribers :\
@@tty025x u r like unknown plus he is cooler by like 1000000 times
Hi Gabe. I do think you doing it first was cool. I had no idea you did this before, so props to you.
Honored to have you in the family, Ron!
Your channel should have much more views!
very nice work Jay!
Thank you! Cheers! What is your next project? We need to collab.
@@PlasmaChannel yes! Did you receive my last email? :D my next project is a small dual resonant solid State tesla coil. Have you ever built a sstc or a drsstc? I Think you will love it ;)
I actually found this channel though a "Electroboom channel" video and I'm so glad I did. This guy is my new electronic hero.
Just coming with 🔥🔥 every video. This is unreal, great stuff
Thanks so much!
Excuse me, Emperor Palpatine, if you could stop now, you can change the galaxy. If not, the resistance will stop you. Great video Jay!!
TDG, great seeing you as always! If I was a jedi, i'd definitely be on the dark side.
I don't understand why this channel is so underrated
Thank you. That means a lot.
Just discovered your channel because of Mehdi's video. You have very good and interesting content! Subbed!
Hey Sam! I’m honored to have you in the Plasma Fam!
This was incredible.. the quantum locking effect with your finger tip was just next level!
You outdid yourself once aqain Jay! Cool stuff. I guess this works kinda like " Paul Traps " ? Always glad to see your new videos. : )
55Ramius! Thanks dude. This one is my personal favorite.
Physics truly is the gateway to magic! I love this!
That was awesome man keep up the good work
Thanks!
I didn't believe the title at first. Very impressive. I Definitely learned something new today!!!
I’m honored you enjoyed my video. Please consider subscribing!
Yeah, I'm gonna dig this channel.
Welcome to my channel!
Jay, this was absolutely amazing. Jaw dropped the whole time!
Woooooo! Thanks gogo. Believe in physics. Believe in science.
I came just because the electroBOOM's video but this was pretty well explained and cool to see.
You have a new subscriber 😉
Hi Angel, welcome to my channel! Thanks for the compliments. Just wait till you see my next video 🙃
Very cool, super impressive as always. Keep up the great work! I always look forward to your videos
thanks Josh!
Having just seen a high voltage demonstration at the Royal institute by a professor David Rickets this was quite interesting. Good job.
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! I always watched the same levitation on my 100kV hipot tester but I didn't understand it very well. Now I do!
Glad it helped!
Excellent demo. Thank you
My pleasure!
Bro congrats on 150K subs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!
Great demonstration!
That is awesome Jay!
Thanks!
thats quality content right here
Cool stuff Plas. Next up, engine block?
That's freaking awesome thank you so clear to the point with your unique positive vibe awesomeness
great work Jay, really thought provoking!
Thanks! Feel free to share :P
