      Also the majority of the dentist discharged the frustration on the assistant and they have bad deal. If the assistant will be as de RDH union, the dentist didn’t have other option than pay more. But are the assistant don’t respect the profession and accept low income. They are guilty. They cannot work without us.

      Right ive now made a my duty to set my asking hourly pay at something im comfortable with because we are definitely over worked ,rushed , sometimes we dont even have time to follow all these sanitary things patients are scheduled minutes after the other , dnt get me started on the offices who dont have a break time set for the assistants u have to take it where u get it. And don't bother making mistakes because you're not human. Its very important to find a good dentist to work with or else this job will make u miserable 🙃

    It’s hard auctioning when the dentist doesn’t let you see cus they’re all over with the hand mirror & high speed & gives me anxiety seeing the patient have so much water in their mouth & the dentist won’t let you suction properly cus they want to finish the procedure fast. & it’s hard to retract the tongue & auctioning at the same time & passing the instruments while retracting the tongue

    • @missyahximu7201
      @missyahximu7201 5 лет назад +35

      You can use a mouth mirror or the triplex to retract so you're not suctioning the cheeks. If you use both high and low, you can use the low volume ejector to retract the tongue or cheek. I utilise all of them. It helps a lot.
      Edit: if you cannot see, stand up or put yourself in a position where you can see. I know some dentists think we can work without vision 🙄 in these cases you have to follow their hands or apply the suction to the molar area and hope you're not drowning the patient or gagging them.

    Dentist here...when working on the patient's left side (or in general), learn to suction with a left-handed, underhand pen grip. Retraction or air/water with your right hand will help your dentist see the posterior teeth better, and your suction position will approach from the anterior (out of the dentist's field of view). Your dentist and your wrist will appreciate your new skill!

Remember, people will always be afraid of new team members bc they are worried about someone else taking their job or place . It’s human nature to start panicking. But they come around eventually. Just do your best and ask a lot of questions , and always watch how they assist and do things ! You are going to learn so much ! Best of luck !

    FYI her mask is on backwards. The slants should always slope down. The lighter side of the mask goes towards your lips and the darker color goes outward you do it this way so water and other aerosol sprays do not sit in the little slats. The outside of the mask has on a special waterproof coating to also help protect against breathing in moisture and aerosols.

The doctor I assisted let me know if I am a lefty I must have the HVE in my dominant hand, Also he noticed too how much more control I had over the suction. So I think if the Dr is able to work with you in it there shouldn’t be too much of an issue. He even mentioned i’d work best with a left hand Doctor haha. I am still new to the hands on though so it’ll just take a lot of practice till I’m capable of much more.

      I am receiving on the job training. This is my first week. Any tips? I am struggling. I was a CVT for 4 years and changed career paths. I want to stick with it, but I feel like I can't do anything right.

      It’s a very difficult field and exhausting. Tiring. The pay does not justify the job imo.

      As a dental nurse who's working as a dental assistant for many years I suggest you to think twice about this. In my 27 year old I already have neck and back issues and it doesn't really have a good career path.
      General nurse is better from career path aspect.
      But it's all depends on your passion.

    When u have to retrach buccal tissues with mouth mirror yet retract the tongue with cotton roll and suction on lower posterior teeth procedures but yet patients got saliva on their back soft palate, yet the dentist complaining about the light when they move the patient's head frequently. That's gonna frustrate you coz you only have two hands.

    Quite different with Japanese dental clinics.
    First, in Japan, GIRLS are too young and they change her job very often.
    Also, they luck of medical care. Now days, It's difficult to find a good dental office.
