  • A heads up review battle between the Harder & Steenbeck Ultra and the Neo for Iwata airbrushes. Both these models are affordable entry level airbrushes, deciding which one to get can be a little tough so, sitback and see what we think here at ISM.....

    I had the Neo for 6 months and also broke the nozzle. Then it started to leak from 2 places, first from the screw in needle housing then from the needle guide. I took your advice and got the H&S Ultra to replace it and its much better built, the nozzle is much easier to clean without risk of breaking it and no leaks after 1 year of use. I like it so much I got an Evolution 2in1 too and added the pinch tip and the adjustable needle stop that the Infinity has. For anyone looking for a first airbrush the Ultra is far better than the Neo for just a little extra money.

    To need a wrench to remove the nozzle is an absolute no go. I would buy an H&S Ultra - german quality!

  • @Emophia

    The O ring eventually broke and afterwards I accidentally sheared the nozzle in half when over tightening it so I will deffo get the Ultra, seems way more convenient too.

    Love my Ultra, but not the aircap. Changed it to hst-126793 air cap, and wow much better results! Finer lines, much less dry tip. Easier cleaning, you can pinch the nozzle for backflush. Try it! 👍

    Some insightful comparisons in this review thank you. I admit I own a neo, but I don't have any issue with cleaning or trigger feel. I guess you just get used to your own brush and develop a method of cleaning that works for it. What I can't find on any of these reviews is the most important thing about these brushes, and that's how they actually spray and lay down paint. How they compare in that field is surely as important?

      Hi adam, yeah this was more a comparison than a review, i reviewed the neo a few months back but couldn't test it on camera as the needle nozzle had snapped (ironic i know lol) in this coming months news show there will be an actual review of the ultra in the style i did for the H&S Infinity in last months show

    Great info! I just purchased H&S Hansa topline 381. I am total novice. looking for info, how important is a cut-out handle to purge clean? and can u get replacement parts?

    Paul, great review, and thank you for doing it. As you know from the forums, I jumped in with the H/S Ultra about a month ago. As a total newbie, I've found the Ultra to be really easy to use: solid in my hand, good trigger sensitivity, etc.
    2 questions, though:
    1. I only got the smaller color cup and the 0.2mm needle. How or where would I go about getting the larger cup and the 0.4mm needle?
    2. Also, how do you do the back-flush thing on the Ultra when cleaning it? The nozzle guard/tip has side-ports. Do you pinch it somehow?

    • @Paul-ProscaleModels
      @Paul-ProscaleModels 10 лет назад

      Thanks David, your over in the states aren't you so not sure of a local supplier for you, air-craft.net in the uk are very good and I'm sure would ship overseas and they do the larger colour cup and needle set. To get the pinch tip i have you need to get the needle nozzle front (in either .2 or .4 mm needle size) thats fitted to the infinity its a £18 upgrade but allows much faster cleaning and needle clearing

    Great review. I´ve an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS and use it for weathering my rolling stock with acrylic paints. Need an airbrush for spraying primers and clears, don´t know if buying one more Eclipse, an Revolution or the H&S Ultra.

    if you snap the head of the neo again ... push a toothpick in the hole TIGHT and screw the rest of the head out and order a new one. done as simple as that. my bigger problem is, the paint is bubblin so much in the cup that it comes out i demontaged it new head and needle & cleaned it and all but it is still doing that. What can cause that ?

    • @Paul-ProscaleModels
      @Paul-ProscaleModels 10 лет назад +1

      Yeah i got mine out with a reemer, i know others that haven't been so lucky though :( As for the bubbles that may be damage caused the first time round maybe damaging the needle nozzle threads on the ab body preventing it sealing properly

    • @FragNet0
      @FragNet0 10 лет назад

      Paul @ ISM but that should be solved with the blue sealer or how you call that liquid mask ?

    I’ve used both and concur the information in this video; the Ultra is a far superior airbrush. My Neo is now a practice tool for my son and I don’t even touch it... but I do catch him using my H&S airbrushes when I’m not looking ;)

    You got alot more for your money than I did. I just spent $82 on the H&S Ultra and all I get is the brush, the .2mm needle, 2 ml cup. I had to buy the disconnect hardware and bought a lid for the cup. It is a 2ml infinity lid I hope it works on the Ultra. I imagine a 2ml cup is the same across all devices.

    • @Dragonblaster1

      He did say he bought the Ultra 2 in 1, and that there was just a single cup and no quick disconnect in the Solo.

  • @MisterHampshire

    Thank you for this. I have a Neo and could maybe doing with upgrading anyway, but, how does the quick release thing on either airbrush connect to the air hose from the compressor? There does not seem to be any threading for connection. And oh I agree, the Neo is a pig to clean!

  • @اعلاناتللدعايةوالاعلانالضوئي

    Hi there is a kind of airbrush, there is a nut under the cup, its benefits, and the video that I showed you, there is no nut below the cup, I am in a whirlpool I do not know what kind I buy. Please help, thank you very much 🌹

    Good video. Where the heck was this video six months ago when I bought the Neo?
    Honestly I probably would have still bought the Neo because I got it so cheap ($40). I have had some trouble with the Neo clogging up and then paint accumulating on the cap so eventually it starts spitting. To fix the spitting I remove the cap but the clogging has still been an issue although it could be the paint which was supposed to be airbrush ready, it still seems thick. I will give it a few more chances before I decide to sell it or not.

    • @Paul-ProscaleModels
      @Paul-ProscaleModels 10 лет назад +1

      Hi James im gonna guess the paint is vallejo model air, by how you have described it, it can be prone to blockages in an airbrush and your right it does benefit from being thinned approx 10%

    Being partial to Badger, I just cant seem to fit a harder and steenbeck into my budget. I wish I could as Id love to try one. I hear everyone talk about them being a cracking airbrush but with the great customer service Ive had with Badger, I just cant force myself to shy away from the Badger Line. When I hear you say the price I get all excited until I realize its pounds instead of US dollars haha. It almost doubles in price,. At 810 bucks to get the Ultra its like $135 US dollars.

      Paul @ ISM
      I've been trying to get my hands on a a used classic Evo for some time now (own a silverline 2in1 and a infinity 2in1), to turn it into a dedicated 0.6mm gun for varnishing and applying heavier colors like pearls...no luck so far, but maybe I should give the Ultra try... after all it's only 1/3 of the price of an Evo and it reduces the amount of spare parts compared to say branching out to an 0.5 Iwata or Badger airbrush...

    Hi.
    A review have to be knowledge, but many speaks about other things.
    How fine they spray, pattern, performance, reliability, ease in cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, fabrication defects, construction disadvantages, etc.
    I want a review for beginners.
    EXAMPLE:
    My IWATA NEO CN have rubber seals, is not so modular and dont have that needle cap of HS infinity
    HS infinity have teflon seals is very modular (excelent for ultrasonic cleaning) and that very useful needle cap.

    Does anyone have a suggestion on the best dual action gravity fed airbrush between 50-125 dollars? I am looking for a good balance between price and quality and am stuck on what to get. I have looked at the Iwata Neo, H&S Ultra along with the paasche talon. Any suggestions?

      Thanks for the comment. I really considered it based on it's price point, but with it being Chinese made, I might as well get a 30 buck Chinese one with more options or save more money and go with the H&S Ultra instead.

    • @szabogabor6823
      @szabogabor6823 7 лет назад +1

      Interesting. I've using a NEO CN for 5 years now without any problem. I have another brushes but for heavier paints or quick coverage works I still use it regularly. The only change I made with it that I replaced the needle package seal with a PTFE one. I don't know why other people so keen on H&S head system (just try to clean a tip dry on an Ultra when there is some paint in the cup and You will get the point or forget to tighten the nozzle enough and add some pressure :) ). Just for the book I have an Evolution also and I really like it. IMHO nothing wrong with NEO in its (entry level) class.
