Your reaction to Freya was very similar to mine. It was hard to see it not live to it's full potential, especially when seeing the past 30-45 seconds of the performance. The first part of the performance just didn't give the energy, staging, and vocals that it needed :(.
The way they revealed who had qualified was so intense this time. There's a video up on Good Evening Europe tv of that moment. Literally denying all the fan favorites from the get go! I am surprised Akuvi didn't qualify, but not so much for Maria. Her staging and shaky vocals just didn't work out live... meanwhile Skrellex and Atle ended up stealing that spotlight instead! VERY deserved!
That was a blood bath! I liked every performance. Although Maria didn't start well, her song was the best for me. I just wish she had a better staging. And Triumph was sooooo good live! But I am happy overall. Ulrikke and Alessandra are still my fovourites to win.
I LOVED AKUVI. Voted for her, and so sad she didn't go through😭😭 I screamed a little to my tv once they announced it. Would be fun if there would be a wildcard with a second chance❤️
So glad Atle is getting a lot of love now finally, I have loved that song from the first second. But OMG what a final it will be. I think it's the battle between Ulrikke and Atle when it comes down to it.

Since there's 9 participants in the final, I have a slight feeling KEiiNO might be a secret 10th finalist. They just released a song that's right under 3 minutes and would be incredible for Eurovision. It also includes Norwegian, English, and Sami, which is a very Eurovision thing to do. It also has the word "monuments" in there + they had some MGP finalists from this year accompany them for the premiere of their new song.

My vote went to Atle tonight. Plenty of surprises with the lives. Freya didn't deliver the energy on stage! Maria was so nervous. Bless her. Still a fun song, but for me it wasn't really enough even in audio. Whats gonna happen next week now? I think Alessandra and JONE both need to work on a bit more energy live, and Ulrikke needs to surprise. otherwise there's others waiting to grab the ticket to Liverpool...

I’m upset that Maria and Tiril didn’t qualify because I adored both those songs.. For me Maria has come as a shock non qualifier even though her vocal could and should have been more powerful. The only song Im glad qualified was Atle. I feel a little upset about this. Maria was my favourite of the national selections.
Oh so wished you'd watched the announcement of the votes in that segment of the show. Almost fell off my chair when they listed three of the faves up first not making it. Tiril was a massive missed opportunity and with a wind machine might have made it qualify. Ahh the drama haha
Can’t believe Akuvi didn’t get through she was my MGP winner! So happy for Eline though she was amazing, loved Skrellex’s show and Atle really surprised me - I’m a sucker for a light show so that was a big plus 😂 but this semi could’ve been the final because wow the standard was insane! My qualifiers tonight were Akuvi, Eline, Atle so 2/3 which isn’t too bad!
Oh Shane, you missed a nail bitter with the results reveal. I am so shocked that "Freya" is out, I did notice some of the vocals were a bit off, and the performance lacked a bit of dynamic-ness, but I never thought for a second it would miss out. I am also really sad for Stig, it was my favourite of the evening and he put on a great performance. I still can't believe he has gone from my least favourite in the 1999 Eurovision to one of my favourites in MGP this year. Atle for sure deserved to qualify and potentially has the best ballad in the final, Skrellex put on a great performance and I have always had a soft spot for the song, so can't begrudge them making the final. Elina, I still am not a massive fan of the song, but it certainly grew on me with the live performance. I just feel in this SF, I would have prefered other qualifiers. Looking forward to the final next week. I won't tell you my favourites, as I need to upload my own video on it, but I have a rough idea on who I am hoping to see win. 😁
Elsie bay need tho win mgp 2023 masterpiece song I am shocked that two favorites was out happy that skrellex make it the other two qualifiers was my back up favorites
A strong semi and Maria fell so flat - I love the song but I was disappointed with her performance Skrellex was my favourite by a mile I have no idea who’s gonna win but it’s set to be a great final
What a bloodbath! I was pretty underwhelmed with Maria Celine’s performance (vocally, lighting, camera angles, staging) but I still expected her to qualify. Akuvi was great, when I saw her dancing I heard you speaking in my mind (“take note Ella, this is how you do it”) 🤣 Atle’s song is not really for me but he was great vocally so a deserved finalist. Eline also did good but her song is just nog special enough for me, but pleasant to listen to. Skrelex for me was the best performance of the night, although the song is not competitive (but very catchy!) Stig was great, I knew he would’t qualify but it was nice to see him giving everything on the stage. A very strong year for MGP and a lot of songs added to my spotify national selection playlist 👌🏻
If you told me the qualifiers a day before the show I would've been genuinely shocked/surprised. However, after watching the performances I have to say that I think the 3 performances that went through all make sense. I was expecting Freya, Akuvi, and one of Eline, Atle, Tiril, or Skrellex (assuming there would be a televote-friendly performance). But after the performances I was predicting Atle, Skrellex, and one of Akuvi/Eline. My personal favourite performances on the night were Eline and Skrellex. I ended up voting for Eline but partly because I expected Skrellex to be more safely through than Eline.
I voted for Eline and Stig. The pre-chorus ("I burned a million photographs") is super catchy and the song and performance gave me some Sigrid vibes. As for Stig, I was impressed by his performance + I quite like Bob Marley's music to begin with, so of course. Eline was the only one the betting odds got right this time. Was disappointed with the lack of staging for "Freya". It needed something more ambitious in order to advance (at the very least add some drums if your lyrics contain the phrase "let's hit the drums of love"). I was surprised to see some love for "Break It" in the fandom, but for me the song never had a proper pay-off. Akuvi not making it did not surprise me either after Ella's NQ last weak. An interesting thing to note: Norway's televote only gave 1 point to Chanel, which tells me we do not love "girl bops" as much as the online ESC fandom.
I am glad that Atle qualified! His song has grown on me a lot, it's a very nice song 💕. Regarding the staging, I was a little distracted by all the light beams crossing each other in the background. Marias vocals were a bit weak and off pitch on a few notes in the beginning. And there was a lack of power/energy, but it got better and at the end she showed it. The staging lacked movement and dynamism and some camera shots did not focus on her in close-up. Despite this, I would have liked her to qualify. The song is SUPER strong for me, enough to hope she would have "grown with the task". (There must have been enormous pressure to deliver as pre-tipped. They could have worked on the shortcomings before the final and further. She Can sing!). But I also understand why she didn't qualified. I seem to be in the minority here, sorry, but I would have preferred Tiril and Maria over Skrellex. Tiril's song is beautiful and she sang amazingly and flawlessly. The staging was a bit static, but okay. Skrellex delivered a SHOW without a doubt. My argument for this is that I thought the others' songs were stronger and presumably more competitive in the long run. Eline's song grew on me, she sang well and it performed well live. I also liked Akuvi's performance. In general, the quality of the vocals was high. All the best! 🌺💕
Wow what a high quality show it was! Atle, Skrellex and Stig really elevated live for me especially Atle his live staging was so visually arresting and his vocals were outstanding. Eline and Tiril were two of my favourites going in and I was disappointed that Tiril didn't qualify but I did have a feeling only one of these two would end up qualifying given the quality of the semi. Akuvi's nailed the staging and live vocals, but the song felt a bit empty for me live, I wasn't really feeling the chorus. I thought she would still qualify considering the fact it stood out from the rest but was suprised it didn't. Maria was the suprise non-qualifier for me, although I found the live performance a bit static and I didn't like the staging direction they went with for the song. I thought the song alone would be enough to get it to qualify. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the qualifiers as I would have loved Tiril to qualify but I can't complain with the as the quality was so high. I wish Norway spread out some of these entries amongst the other semi's to not make this one such a bloodbath.
So my prediction didn't hold up as Freya didn't qualify. Norway like camp since Skrellex got through, but she also really did a great job tonight. I got my first place so I'm happy, now Atle just has to win it all, if not then Ulrikke or Swing it, but if Skrellex suprisingly should win, I'm fine with that too. Tirill really grew on me, so her and Akuvi or Stig was my 3rd pick Tonight.
When I tell you my jaw dropped, None of my predicted finalists made it! 😲😂 Norway really woke up and chose violence today huh 😂. Also in relation to Akuvi's song, written by Wild's songwriters 😂 In relation to the performances, I can see why the three qualifiers qualified. Eline sold her performance, great vocal, didnt mind the staging, it was a strong performance I thought. Atle: The song I dont think is my favorite but the staging was great and he sold it. Skrellex: The song isn't my cuppa but (sounding like a broken record) they sold it. The staging whilst being quite predictable, worked, disco, pink, purple. With the non qualifiers Akuvi: I was a bit disappointed with the lack of choreography from Akuvi. Ik its hard to sing and dance but it felt too little to me. Tiril was great, I dont have any complaints, sad she didnt qualify, I voted for her. Maria: Even though this was a huuuuge fan favourite, this was very shaky in the first half, the vocal unfortunately, I think it was nerves, the staging was non existent, like the burning tree though. The styling also not my fave. Eline: This was very good, the song still doesn't do a whole lot for me but the performance was great. Stig: Well performed the song didnt do much for me though. The staging was cool I liked it.
Norway loves underdogs. We are affected by the JanteLawn. Which means not to think that one is better than others, or that one is special. So when the critics judged Atle harshly. And praised Maria Celin. And she didn't have the best day at work. Then the matter is clear. We choose Atle. Eline Torp has struggled with mental issues and stage fright. And has been away from the industry for many years. Then we support her. (but nice melody, which I voted for) The same thing happened when Tix won over KEiiNO. And I guess it was kind of the same thing that happened last year.
Atle did deserve to go through he did a great performance of a great song. Even though Maria under delivered on Saturday, it would have been wise to put her through because that song had massive potential. Sometimes it’s harder to sing great songs than it is to sing average/poor songs so it’s too easy to judge that Maria didn’t sing well but Eline and Skrellex did. Their songs were less challenging for them to sing. That’s why I would have considered the songs potential rather than focus on who sang the best.
@@cultfiction3865 I agree. I liked Atles performance. Yes, that would have been wise. but the people vote based on feelings. They don't think strategy and what has potential.
@@reialise You are right as well. Right now I’d love for Atle to win for Norway since my two favourites Maria and Tiril have been knocked out. Atle would now be my new favourite followed by Ukrikke
Akuvi is the biggest loss here overall for the final. If we’re talking semi 3, on personal taste, I would have chosen Maria and Tiril aswell even though there were some shaky vocals. Would have also loved to see Sandra in the final lineup. Gutted that nearly all of my top songs didn’t make it into the final in the end. Akuvi though….how did that happen 😭
Personally I would've put through Akuvi over Eline but other than that I'm not surprised by the results. It was a very tight race in this semi. In terms of performances on the night I thought Maria and Stig were let downs and Skrellex, Akuvi, Atle and Eline exceeded expectations
Someone else wrote a good point about Eline that in regards to her performance she said to the crowd and as a result people were invited to connect with the song...I get this point. I still think of the songs last night Eline was my least favourite but last night PERFORMANCE was key! 💖
Shocked that Akuvi didn't go through. Really sad about Freya - the staging was not great, and unfortunately Maria wasn't on her best :( There was no choreography, and the song had SUCH a potential for amazing staging .__. Happy for Atle, and Skrellex BROUGHT THE SHOW! Not my fav songs, but probably best performances.
@@ShanesEurovisionReview Yeah. I mean - it wasn't horrible at all. I think it was pretty good, just not good enough compared to those who got through. I think she still would have done great if the competition wasn't as high :)
It was heartbreaking watching Maria. She was so nervous and looked so alone on the stage. Just wish she had someone on the stage with her. And, must say I don’t like this you-can-only-vote-once thing. Especially when there so many good candidates in one heat. Either way Skrellex and Atle definitely owned the stage. Atle standing alone and you can feel every emotion, that’s impressive. Skrellex, man the queen can sing and sure put on a show. ☺️
If they had literally copied Rein Alexander's 'One Last Time' 2020 staging w the backing dancers and costume style etc Freya woulda been straight through....
Maria’s performance felt sadly underwhelming. It was rather sparse, cheap staging and far too dark, lacked the impact and drama the song so easily creates and needs. Needed drummers and a lot more movement around her. There was so much potential for the staging and she seemed nervous. Whereas Eline seemed to sing to the home audience, performed well and raised the game. When Skrellex performed had a hunch this would be chosen as it was entertaining and for viewers hearing and seeing these songs for the first time, this would definitely catch your attention over the very dark and almost awkward performance of Maria. I was surprised Akuvi didn’t get a pass though as thought that was solid. Sad for Tiril too as loved that.
This was an awful semi. Not the performances, but the result. I couldn’t imagine both Tiril and Maria not qualifying. Of the two, I feel worst for Tiril because she did well on stage.
Freya looked boring, she seemed to be bored, the stage looked too dark, there was no action, nothing happened there and her terribble outfit made her look 10 years older 😕....if she had changed her outfit and added more life to the stage, she would have qualified easily. There was so much potential, but the stage and her look ruined her chances...
I voted for Atle and Tiril tonight 😊 My favourites of the finalists for Norway this year is Ulrikke, Atle, Alessandra, Elsie Bay and Jone. I have not yet decided the right order. I really thought that Urikke could have won Eurovision in 2020 with "Attention", her performance was stunning and I was extremely disappointed that it was cancelled that year 😢❤ I really think that "Honestly" is also a very good song, but it's not the same as "Attention" unfortunately. But I think she might get my vote next week. 🤔😇
the fact that I would've been elated AND heartbroken regardless of who the 3 qualifiers were... lol 🫠 whoever selected what songs went in each semi really messed up... i think 3 or 4 of the songs that didn't qualify would've EASILY made it through in any other group!
I may or may not have shed a tear for Freya 🥲 The way the staging and live performance worked out had it's flaws, but it was clearly the best song of the night for me. And it has SO many possibilities to grow, staging wise! Just waiting for them to announce a surprise wildcard, and for her to NAIL it in the final, ha ha! So happy for Skrellex though. That was so much fun

Maria/Freya was my top 3, but unfortunately she didn't sing that well live tonight. Sorry..😢
Sorry! 💖
A little shocked, I think it's Atle for the win now!! Shane☮❤
I would be happy if Atle won 💖💖
and basically Skrellex has given Conchita a RUN FOR HER MONEY
Atle and Skrellex deserved it! "Freya" is a good song, but it was sad to watch the perfomance.
💖💖
It is fine for me, I just needed Akuvi to go through, but it didn't so I got very dissapointed :(((( I voted for it tho!!
Akuvi must have been close! There seems to be allot of support in these comments for it!!! 💖
Yeah after Ella's NQ I was worried for Akuvi! Interesting point about Chanel ❤️
Skrellex ELEVATED that song tonight! Well deserved! ❤
Atle 🤩😍♥
When I tell you my jaw dropped, None of my predicted finalists made it! 😲😂
Norway really woke up and chose violence today huh 😂.
Also in relation to Akuvi's song, written by Wild's songwriters 😂
In relation to the performances, I can see why the three qualifiers qualified.
With the non qualifiers
Akuvi: I was a bit disappointed with the lack of choreography from Akuvi.
Hahahaha they chose "violence". 💖
From the NQ the only one, based on performance I am gutted with is Tiril... 💖
(but nice melody, which I voted for)
The same thing happened when Tix won over KEiiNO.
Akuvis absence from the final is just a testament to the quality of songs at MGP this year! Solid! 💖
Isn't Akuvi just krone shop Asanda from 2018?
At least I can understand these shock nqs. The Moldovan selection otoh... how did Crista nq?
I need to catch up with this NF this week!!!!
Its such a shame Freya did not work on stage tonight 💖
Skrellex put on a SHOW 💖💖
Not meant to be was iconical, iconic voice, iconic dress, ...a Masterpiece song. Better than Elsie Bay's own song
Chuffed for Skrellex but gutted for Stig
Being #teamstig I am gutted not to see him in the final 💖
BISH EVEN NORWAY UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT OTHER THAN COURTNEY ACT
Freya is a great Eurovision song but the vocals and the performance was subpar. with another performer it could have won MGP.
💖
If they had literally copied Rein Alexander's 'One Last Time' 2020 staging w the backing dancers and costume style etc Freya woulda been straight through....
💖
I think you summed up the end result perfectly here Jennifer 💖
Luckily you where not in the live comment section on youtube was so Annoying just people spamming: FREYA❤❤❤ Ruined the song for me tbh.
This was an awful semi. Not the performances, but the result. I couldn’t imagine both Tiril and Maria not qualifying. Of the two, I feel worst for Tiril because she did well on stage.
Gutted for Tiril...the girls perifmes ce brought a tear to my eye! 💖
Norway I'm very sorry, but you chose the worst songs
I voted for Atle and Tiril tonight 😊
My favourites of the finalists for Norway this year is Ulrikke, Atle, Alessandra, Elsie Bay and Jone. I have not yet decided the right order.
I really thought that Urikke could have won Eurovision in 2020 with "Attention", her performance was stunning and I was extremely disappointed that it was cancelled that year 😢❤
I really think that "Honestly" is also a very good song, but it's not the same as "Attention" unfortunately.
Agree 100% Erika 💖
I may or may not have shed a tear for Freya 🥲 The way the staging and live performance worked out had it's flaws, but it was clearly the best song of the night for me. And it has SO many possibilities to grow, staging wise! Just waiting for them to announce a surprise wildcard, and for her to NAIL it in the final, ha ha! So happy for Skrellex though. That was so much fun
Shane sei sempre Piu sexy
Thank you Kirk 💖
