Thanks for this. It was my only NYE show that I could get into. Miracle happened halfway through the Applebaum set and I was able to enjoy the Tom Tom Club and of course danced my ass off to the Dead right in front of the soundboard. YUMMY Memories.
Absolutely love this, love Clarence there and anywhere with Dead or JGB so much, love Jerry so much, and gotta say that end of Touch is exactly where we learned to keep it zoomed in and on Garcia. So much fun to watch him. Thanks.
And Sikiru was there, too. Gotta say this: 7 years ago maybe did some Mickey Bart band tour and in Boulder at the Fox I stood right in front of the soundboard wall and holy shit it's good the ceilings are good because Schools shook the shit out that place. My teeth were rattling and everything was vibrating- my friends were visibly moving 2 inches off the ground with rather nervous looks on their faces. It was intense and am sure I had The Positon for it in the ultimate sweet spot- but later on that show Sikiru and Dave played together just the two of them and nothing comes close. Maybe a perfect Black Peter I heard Furthur do- but nothing else touches that post Garcia... Well okay the entire terrapin suite being front and center with Hunter best it but nothing else. And seen a lot of music. Sikiru is astonishing.
This was last new year's eve that is even worth talking about.. It was way kool that clarence was on stage for the majority of the show,it would have been great if the band would have had a horn section all along. It was not kool that weir stepped on garcia"s feet at the end of morning dew. But another kool thing about this show jerry didn't have that horrendus midi . I was getting tired of hearing Wharf Rat >Going down the road>One more saturday night as the encore . this was my last nye show.
Women, Terrapin: "The sailor coming out again, the sailer fairly lept at him, that's how it stands today- you decide if she was wise. Storyteller makes no choice, soon you will not hear her voice. Her job is to shed light, not to master". I love you Jerry.
One of the best Morning Dews everrrrr. Typical 80s larger than life production. I saw many shows then. Some good some not so much. This one is sweet. Listening for the Bobby intruding .......3:38 have to think about that. I’ve seen many a great Dews without Guess it doesn’t matter ANYWAY...... I disagree. You heard him scratching a little before. Jerry’s totally into Sunshine Daydream. And so is everyone else.
Check out clarence diggin goin' down the rd. The 2 shows prior to this were way above average but that might have been those thick plastic gel's dipped in a rather large puddle of liquid.
I still think Weir stepped on Jerry's toes before the end of Morning Dew. We listened to this the whole way back up to Santa Rosa and when Jerry was getting to the same part at the end of Morning Dew we pulled into the driveway as Weir Stepped again on toes
I will agree with coyote023 that this was probably the last NYE that really had any real musical worth&with that being said, thank you voodoonola for posting it. Me&my friend had ordered tix's thru GDTS but they were stolen in the mail, arrgggh. We went anyway, scored a pair4the1st 2 nights&my friend got one for NYE's. I stayed@the hotel listening2the FM feed dosed out of my mind. Sure as heck felt like I was in the Coliseum, had2turn the lights on every so often2remind me otherwise. Good times!
Last New Years show with any musical worth, have you ever heard the '90 show? I was at this show and while it was a trill to be there, I thought, Touch and Women were poor choices for a pre-drum second set. Scarlet-Fire Would have pure bliss.

One of my most favorite Deadshows. I'll never forget how they came out of space into the Wheel.

Wow! Great catch! Jerry was truly an improvisor on so many levels.
Jerry was so happy with Clarence's playing that he ended up on tour with the JGB the following fall.

I was at this show. Drove in a van with a bunch of other kids from Michigan, and slept in the lot for 3 nights.
