Good list! Glad to see Amritsar get mentioned. Enjoy your trip! I already pre-ordered (through online retailers) the five games/expansions I'm most anticipating from Essen: 5. Ark Nova: Marine Worlds 4. Amritsar: The Golden Temple 3. Sky Team 2. The White Castle 1. Nucleum
I'm at Essen, it's my first time at Spiel and I'm quite excited. I got lucky and in the lobby of my hotel was someone who had a copy of Evacuation a little early and had formed a group to play it. They were trying to figure out the rules and I had happened to watch a video on it (from Slickerdrips) and I was able to help them grasp the rules. One of them was nice enough to let me have a seat at the table. It's quite an interesting game, It's true that your production gets worse and worse in the old world, but actually at the end of the game resources on the old world are almost useless! Meanwhile your production on the new world is going up (and new world production is also the race condition and the main source of score) and resources can only be used to build on the world they are produced on. So managing which production happens where, and at the right _time,_ is the challenge of the game. As well as getting everyone off the planet in time! I came second by one point, but the winner actually got way more than me in scoring, I just managed to get everyone off so I didn't lose any points.
The theme of Rats of Wistar makes me think of the Secret of Nimh movie. I backed Arborea after hearing Maggie from ThinkerThemer talk about it earlier this year. What you heard sounds correct in terms of leaving workers on tracks, which I think leaves you with less workers, so you can either use your workers often to get small rewards more often, or you can leave them on tracks to get bigger rewards less often. Evacuation sounds intriguing to me too. And hope you two are having smooth travels!!
Great list! I’m looking forward to a lot of games, a condensed list would look like this: 12 Chip Trick Archeologic Ceres Dracula vs. van Helsing Hund The Hunt Leonardo Da Vinci’s Codex Leicester Nucleum Sankore Witchcraft Zhanguo
When you were discussing Kutna Hora, it made me wonder have yall considered playing the deck building game Imperium Classics/Legends? It's a historical nation building game published by Osprey Games. Has another expansion releasing soon too.
Cool list. Planta Nubo images of the boards / pieces are intense. Takes up lots of space (not a negative, more of a wow-eyes-flitting-everywhere-to-take-it-all-in). Kutna Hora also looks cool as heck. Thanks for the list, enjoy your vacay.
I'm looking forward to watching your Vladimir Suchy series. Underwater Cities is my favorite board game, including it's expansion, and he has other nice games like Woodcraft and Praga.
It was very interesting for me to see your Top-List, because it's different to the top-lists from german YT-Channels. There are a few crossovers, but the most titles you're interested in are so different to our focus here in Europe/Germany. I wish you a good time here at the SPIEL23 in Essen.
Well done on the "nisse" :) Some parts of Denmark say the first E more like in "Elf", and I am sure Swedish and Norwegian put the pressure differently near the end :)
My #1 is The White Castle, hands down... but still so sad we didn't end up backing Arborea, but I think we'll def have to pick it up in the future because it looks sooooo goood
I'm most excited about the Strange Forgeries of S.C. Rheber. It's an induction game where you doodle to figure out a secret rule and then at the end you try to guess which of your opponents pieces are "fakes" (doodles that don't adhere to the rules). The designer will be at Essen to demo the game. It's currently in it's last few days of crowdfunding.
Witchcraft! I backed that one and can't wait for it to show up. Along with Septima, I will be well prepared with all my witch-y games. Also interested in Nokosu Dice.
Here's hoping your house remodeling goes according to plan. The games I'm looking to grab at Essen are Tangram City (that other uwe Rosenberg game), Evacuation, Sky Team, Agricola Ephipparius Deck, the Underwater Cities mini expansion and a new King of Tokyo monster. And a yes to a Suchy designer series.
Do a designer series on Luciani! Suchy has some good games. But a lot of misses. The great ones are great though! Underwater cities and pulsar 2849 are the best.
Kutná Hora, you nailed the pronunciation. It's a city in Czech Republic, my hone country. A lovely place. Recommend you Google some photos. Game art is of the features in the city. I also look forward to playing this one. A game that has also caught my eye online which has very limited information is Keops where you build the pyramid of Giza in Egypt.
I was hoping for a bit of a breather after the awesomeness that was 2022, but gosh there are so many I'm looking forward to. Kutna Hora, Nucleum, The White Castle, Sankore, and now I have to look into Planta Nubo and Civolution. That's all in addition to the already released games I've loved this year like Barcelona, 3 Ring Circus, and Earth. 😍
Ended up getting half of your list while I was there, lol. Rats of Wistar - biiig Luciani game so no brainer for me (also got his other new releases; Nucleum (which I will finally play later today), Anunnaki & Sea Dragons - just his games now makes up roughly 10% of my collection, no other designer comes even close to that, lol) Coffee Rush - this was the game I rushed first to get because I knew Korea games would only have 100 copies there (also had pre-orders on the others, which took the pressure off), also demoed it afterwards and it was a lot of fun Kutna Hora - actually got this one to the table yesterday and loved that dynamic market, even if it occasionally bit me in the butt, lol Planta Nubo - got this one played a few days ago, really interesting, used the card display system that Arnak does, where you start out with more of one type of cards earlier in the game and end with more of the other type of cards towards the end. Amritsar - I basically got this one for the mancala aspect. Not yet read up on the rules (biiig stack of games to get through) but look forward to trying it out.
You pronounced Kutná Hora beautifly Monique, don't worry 🙂 I am glad that another Czech game cought your attention 🙂 I guess that the reason for the box cover is that there was silver mines in Kutná Hora and I believe, that a Czech coins were made there.
Another Uwe game was at Essen called Tangram City. But it is more on the level of patchwork etc. Was lucky enough to get one of the copies (as it sold out on Thursday morning). It is a fun game :D Also got to play Rats of Wistar, which is indeed a very fun and unique game! I got Witchcraft, but still need to play it. I did play Resist and really liked it, but I also prefer the theme of Witchcraft more.
Hi you two! Thank you for all your hard work, bringing quality content to us! Rats are wonderful pets. I had a couple when I was younger. I backed Arborea. A friend was really taken by it, so it will be his birthday gift.
“We actually ran away”. LOL, hopefully just hyperbole rather than an actual escape but maybe there were some really big tax bills or you guys are in some witness protection programme. Wherever you are, I hope you brought a game or two!
Will be attending Essen Spiel for the first time this year. Thank you very much for this video! :D

Yes, Vladimir Suchy series would be awesome! That's a great idea!
Agreed! Pulsar 2849 and Prodigal’s Club are both great.
Please, a do Suchy series. Underwater Cities is my favorite board game (with it's expansion, of course)
The theme of Rats of Wistar makes me think of the Secret of Nimh movie.

Evacuation has been in the "con haul" photos I've seen from Essen Spiel. Now that its on your list too, I'm off to investigate! :)
You are quite correct about how Arborea works. I hope you get a chance to try it!
Thanks for adding it to this list!!!
Great list! I’m looking forward to a lot of games, a condensed list would look like this:
12 Chip Trick

Ha, I was looking for an Essen video from you guys earlier today!
Cool list. Planta Nubo images of the boards / pieces are intense. Takes up lots of space (not a negative, more of a wow-eyes-flitting-everywhere-to-take-it-all-in). Kutna Hora also looks cool as heck. Thanks for the list, enjoy your vacay.
Great list! Have fun and stay safe!
A friend of mine is the creator of High Noon and will be there!!
Wow, a V. Suchy series would be amazing! Great picks!
I'm looking forward to watching your Vladimir Suchy series. Underwater Cities is my favorite board game, including it's expansion, and he has other nice games like Woodcraft and Praga.
Undisclosed locations are always the best places to visit. Have fun! And thanks for the list, good insights

Another notable aspect about Arborea is that resources are shared among players and unused resources gained on a turn generate points.
My #1 is The White Castle, hands down... but still so sad we didn't end up backing Arborea, but I think we'll def have to pick it up in the future because it looks sooooo goood

Forest Shuffle is one of the few i'm excited for
Thanks for the lovely video about Essen! Take care! Cis
Thank you Cis!

Whoa you guys are dedicated! Filming a video even when being held hostage. 😅
I can play deal with the devil with you!
I backed aborea on kickstarter and I can’t wait to get it!

I won't be going to Essen either but am excited to learn more about Planta Nubo, Kutna Hora, Civolution, Evacuation and Havalandi. Safe Travels!
Hope to run into you guys so I can thank you for the hours of entertainment in person :)
Great picks!

Thanks for making a vid while you're traveling.

Small trick-taking gems: HUND, Rebel Princess, Tricky Badger.
Are you guys on the Lamb?! Good luck out there! :)
A 2 player trick taking game you might like is Sail from AllPlay.
Another Uwe game was at Essen called Tangram City. But it is more on the level of patchwork etc. Was lucky enough to get one of the copies (as it sold out on Thursday morning). It is a fun game :D

You pronounced Kutna Hora perfectly. :)
kutna hora looks very interesting reminds "tiny towns" thanks for video
I am very keen to get the Rats of Wistar. Is this game out in the u.s?
Hi you two! Thank you for all your hard work, bringing quality content to us! Rats are wonderful pets. I had a couple when I was younger. I backed Arborea. A friend was really taken by it, so it will be his birthday gift.
Awww that’s a very sweet gift! Yes, rats are soooo great! And super cute, really. Thanks so much!
What is the runner up trick taking game?
my top 3 : nucleum, amalfi, inferno
I was going to have you snag me a copy of Rebel Princess, a trick taking game. It’s no Inheritors but hey.
Ahh that game sounds like an interesting take on trick-taking! And with a true theme! What a shame, we would have loved to try it as well
Overcooked is a blast and a friendship ruiner 😂 I’ll have to check out coffee rush
I think you have the emphasis on the wrong syllable in your Arborea pronunciation. :)
No Nucleum of Board&Dice? Have fun on your getaway. I will be getting away as well... to Essen :)
They will be covering it so didn't add it to the list for that reason
Hope you have a great time!!
I love all of your videos so much but sometimes I am just so taken by Monique's hair! It's so beautiful! Just a random aside for you! :D
Naveen, yours is fine too, but it's second best sorry. :D
Inferno
“We actually ran away”. LOL, hopefully just hyperbole rather than an actual escape but maybe there were some really big tax bills or you guys are in some witness protection programme. Wherever you are, I hope you brought a game or two!
Orem misses Monique
Welcome to Europe! :)
Germany ?
Can you make a video swapping positions in front of the camera? :) hahaah
