Jenny demonstrates how to make a beautiful double pinwheel quilt with split quarter square triangles made from 10 inch squares of precut fabric. For this project, Jenny chose Eden 10" Squares by Sally Kelly for Windham Fabrics.
Learn how to make scores of half square triangles quick-as-a-wink using the "easy 8" method. Those HSTs become easy 1/4 square triangles with just two seams, and they're trimmed to perfection with the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer B.

I keep telling myself "I do not need any more patterns and fabric, I got enough for several lifetimes." But then Jenny comes out with a new tutorial and all my resolutions fly right out the window. But I just have to have this one.
You took the words right out of my mouth!
Me too 🤭

So very true!
Me too. I will have live 100 more years to make all I want to make 😆
This would also be beautiful with 1.5" sashing between the blocksin background fabric to define them a bit more. Such a neat block! Thank you for the tutorial.
I agree. I like the way Jenny made it, and a sashing in between would give a more vintage look, which I love.
I’m making this quilt with purple & green. I had decided to put a thin dashing between each block also. I love these tutorials.
I am going to make this quilt as you go by block and will put thin sashing to join! Looking forward to how this will turn out. I am using some hummingbird themed yardage I have.
@@LifeWithDeborahCarney I thought that each row would be good for QAYG but you have trumped my brain with your idea. Either ways can potentially add stability or size .
@@AnitaSouthall I like bigger blocks and I do the front and back at the same time. So this seems like it would be perfect for QAYG block sandwiches. I have a little facebook group with my QAYG stuff and I already put this pattern there so I remember to do it soon and what I wanted to use and how I wanted to change it.
Super cute!! What if you use a 2 color way… like red and blue with white as the background?
Love it! This would look great with 1930's fabrics.
You could add these pinwheels around the perimeter of a rectangular fabric panel for a quick quilt, especially for kids. Just add small borders around the panel until you come to the correct measurement of a length of pinwheels. Thanks!
Excellent suggestion 🇦🇺💜👋
Yes, it would make a cute baby or child quilt - I’m thinking about my smaller quilt guild who makes quilts (about 40”x50”) for children in crisis. A solid block alternating between the pinwheels could be faster for us and then we would have lots more quarter square triangle blocks for more quilts!
what a great idea!! And thank you to you and your guild for your thoughtful gifts to children in crisis!
This is perfect! The pinwheel block is my signature for all my grandchildren's quilts. I even made a single pinwheel block and quilted for my son when his girlfriend miscarried. I love this design ❤️
Sending you all so much love. This is a beautiful idea xx
Hi Jenny,
Would you be interested in creating an easy to make “Ocean Waves” quilt? One that uses half square triangles the easy way you make them, instead of cutting and piecing all those triangles?
I bought a “Baskets of Blooms” panel and jelly roll from you guys and I want to put the pictures inside of the blank square areas in an ocean waves design.
I tried to search to see if you have ever done a tutorial on this, and I couldn’t find one.
Thanks so much for considering it! 😊💐🌷🌹🌸🌺
: ( What size are you squaring them to?? I watched the video 3 times, and you never said what size?? 4 Or is it 4.5?? or something smaller??
Go to 11:01 and listen for a second or two and she says 4 inches. Hope that helps
I can't find it either.
This is a neat pattern. It will go on my To Do list. It’s so comforting watching Jenny’s videos. Especially with the world as it is, on top of all the issues each of us has. I need a break from the world. Thanks, Jenny and family.-Karen Morison
I keep thinking these blocks should be sashed with a narrow green strip to look like a flower garden.
While you're using pinwheels, what keeps jumping out at me is the diamond pattern it ends up making around the center background diamond where they come together. Just the right color play, could make that pattern take center. Love how you all simplify things for me. Boosts my confidence that I can do it, too! Great tutorials every time!
As always great explanation from Jenny Thank you the quilt is beautiful 👍👏🥰🌸🇦🇺
Show! Jenny another wonderful layer cake quilt, really look forward to you videos each week, heather from Melbourne Australia
These pinwheels look like they are are actually in motion - turning with them wind! Really very appealing!
Jenny,I love you Love you, love you….you’ve been my mentor for as long as you’ve been making these videos, I had always been a hand quilter and stopped due to arthritis in my neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and esp thumbs,(Dequerveins synovitis) and at first when I saw that people started machine quilting, I was like well that’s cheating not quilting. But after I saw a few of your shows I realized all I was doing was denying myself of one of my favorite things ever and so I started quilting again on a machine but had you not helped with your videos I would have never learned how, as I wasn’t a sewist but am that now too. Thank you so much for your inspiration. I am once again, quilting happily, better and enjoying it more than ever. Thank you Jenny I know our creator blesses you daily with love, laughter and stitching fun. And so many people love you I’ll bet your heart just bursts sometimes in tears of joy, when I watch you and see how happy and thankful you are I cry happy tears for you. Your most beloved fan…..EVER💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💕Linda Gillespie
So glad you found a way to continue doing what you love!
Recently bought my first machine at the age of 52. Have watched a ton of videos on quilting. I love your videos. Couldn't believe you made it through the easy 8 without licking your fingers LOL
I’m excited for you having gotten your first sewing machine. Join some sewing Facebook groups, based on what you’re interested in sewing (I.e. quilts, garments, home decor sewing, etc.). They are inspirational and helpful.
I did t even notice that each row pointed in opposite directions. Very clever!!!! Lots of pinwheels % wonder how it would look using larger quarter square triangles - hmmmmm!!!!
This would be so cute as a baby quilt also! Thanks Jenny!
That’s what I thought, too!

Hi. I hope you are having a cheerful day. I had another busy day in my sewing room and I feel like I'm only clipping away at a mountain of fabric scraps! LOL, I hope you have a fabulous week ahead! Thank you for posting this video and your time!
I love that ruler to trim 1/2 square triangles!!!
Excellent tutorial. Watching you is fascinating & inspiring , Thank you
Very pretty quilt and pattern♥️🇦🇺
That is darling! Thank you for the inspiration and the quarter square triangle instructions. I was always nervous about trying them but I sure will now!
i love pinwheels...so without distinctive enough contrasts, it does not really matter how you lay them, i think
I did this with sashing/cornerstones! Made a huge beautiful quilt. Also used same fabric throughout for the ¼squares - gold!! I love it!
Love the wavey line pattern! As I was looking at the quilt it kind of looks like the pinwheels are stirring up the wind.
Love that you say "both " sides! "Either" side is confusing.
Do you cut off the dog ears
Very clever and cute pattern ... I don't particular like fabrics that are as "busy" a pattern as that is, but it works for some people. Would be interesting to see it with softer, more control colors. Nice tutorial!
Thank you for another great tutorial Jenny. I love the flow of this pattern. I can see a few quilts being made in my house using this pattern
Such a fun quilt top! Thank you for all of your tutorials, too. Blessings to y'all.
Got into quilting after I retired, and wading through techniques. I could do with trying this out, so thank you.
What a great one! Thank you Jenny and company! Love, love, love this one!
A great pattern from a wonderful teacher!
Thank you for another great idea for my scraps! Putting this one on “the list!” 🤣
Happy quilting! 🧵
I just finished one of these and it took forever! This method is way faster than the one that I used.
Thanks, Jenny! Love the quilt and the quilting pattern!
I love it. Easy way to make pinwheels. Thanks Ginny
I really like how quick this would go. Only squaring once is perfect! 👍
I am so glad when Friday comes so that I can watch Jenny make a new quilt.
Thanks Jenny for another great quilt pattern! You make this Quilting look easy111
Love this! How would it look with white sashing?
What happened to last Friday’s video of the tulip wall hanging? I really want to make it. Is there any instructions for it?
Boy making sure each rows points are going in the same direction could get confusing, I bet. There are so many possibilities with this block. If you were to add sashing, it would grow the quilt quickly and look completely different. I love the fabrics you chose. Thanks a bunch for the great tips and tricks!
저는 한국 살고있습니다 매번 볼때마다 감동적인 입니다 감사합니다 앞으로도 하이팅
I tried it, i must have missed something i got all confused somewhere because i can get my one pinwheel but the second outer one is not right lol
I love the little tips interspersed in your tutorials like placement of pieces to assure that the machine goes easily across the seams.
Hello Marsha, how are you hope you’re doing well
That’s so lovely thank you so much. X
Great quilt pattern, Jenny. I have many layer cakes, a quilt for each season! I plan to use this one soon!
Beautiful quilt! Im adding this to my To Do list,
Wonderful pattern, thank you for such a great idea and video!
This is so cute and colorful ! Thank you !! Great idea!
Jenny! You make it look so easy. I can never get mine to work. It is always wonky. Thanks
Beautiful, love the colours x
I love it! It’s perfect for one of the layer cakes I have sitting around 😁
Great block pattern, love the backing fabric. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Once again another great tutorial! Super cute and so colourful! Lots of hugs from South Africa 🇿🇦
This is absolutely fun pinwheel I can’t wait to try this method
Jenny, what type of pen do you use to mark your lines?
Love this quilt!! But what happened to last week’s video?? It’s not in the app or in the RUclips lineup???? Really want to make it!! Help
This would be a great scrap buster quilt!
The 4 square pun is wonderful!!
It’s a beautiful quilt and so much fun
Great , i enjoyed
Great quilt to use a rotating cutting mat.
This is more of a non related question. If I sew this quilt blocks by hand, which seam is stronger, straight stitch up and back down or backstitch. Tks for your help.
Love this one!
I love how you make it look so easy!!!
She is so interesting, I learned so much
Beautiful! What size did you trim the quarter squares? I didn’t catch it in the video.
Great video, hope you are well..
Love this!
Awesome tutorial! Can’t wait to make this! Thanks!
Such a cute pattern!
Love it ❤️
I gotta try this!!!! Thanks!!
Пожалуста уберите титры , они мешают смотреть блок .
I don’t understand where you lay the trimmer to square it up ?
This is really cool. I can't wait to try it.
Jenny, you are amazing!! Love your creativity, absentance of perfection yet excellent finished product. I think I saw little whiffs of smoke as you sped through making these blocks.😂
Jenny, please tell me what foot you have on your Baby Lock. I just got a new Lyric and I love it. I want that foot and I can't find it. I have a quarter inch that has the little part that hangs down and keeps the fabric in line, but I like the one on your machine more!! Please advise. Thank you.
I adore designer Sally Kelly’s fabrics ever since I discovered her a couple of years ago. Because there’s so much going on with her fabrics, in this design I would use a solid with each print besides the solid background, so it wouldn’t look quite so ‘busy’ with all of those prints fighting with each other. It helps the eye appreciate the print designs better, in my opinion. But I *LOVE* this quilt block design, Jenny! It’s such a clever way of making a lot of HST/QST pinwheels quickly. I can’t wait to try it!
One could make these really graphic and large for a modern style quilt. Just double up the size of the units to 20 inch squares and go to town. Doubling the size would allow for large Kaffe prints and less blocks.
I just got some red white and blue patriotic fabric, and this will be a great design for my summer picnic quilt! Jenny, you're the best!!! 😊😊😊
I love the way you teach!
I always crack up when she says "press to the dark side"
Very pretty & looks easy enough for old arthritic hands to do. TY Jeane Doan & Missouri Star Quilts!
For the future, please try to use two brighter contrasting fabrics. It is VERY hard to see that pale green on the video. But I love these and watch everyone. Thank you for what you do.
Jenny that's a beautiful quilt but , all those angles are going to drive me nuts at my machine !! This one I will be watching more than five times for sure! 🤗❤❤❤
Thanks Jenny!
Jenny, I don't know what I would do without you teaching me all these wonderful blocks !! I want you you know I love everyone of your classes and your quilts are so adorable!! Much love to you my friend !😃❤
not sure what i am doing wrong. when i square mine up after cutting them, they arent 4 inches. (you stated that you were squaring them to 4 inchs? mine are 3ish.
Make sure you are lining your seam lines up with the ruler and that you are cutting them at 4 inches and not three. Also, that you are using five inch squares!
This quilt looks like it would have been at home on one of the beds in my Grandma's house. I love it!
I love this quilt. You are a very good teacher.
How are you doing Lani
can you do a tutorial on the brilliant swirl quilt that's in your blog
The dark roo. Light still??
You always make these look so easy!! I enjoy watching and learning from you! 💛🌻💛
Jenny, since I started looking at quilt tutorials, I have found loads of others, but you remain my favourite!
Love it thanks so much for sharing love it and I love the colors of the fabric that you used thanks Jenny you’re the greatest❤️
