    It's not an easy fix, but it's the right fix! I watched this video about a month ago, and I've been focusing ever since then on making sure I set up my hands in good brackets at the best angle. Just this week I've gone back to my fast pieces, and it's almost like a miracle occurred! Thanks for the encouragement to do the work to get where I want to be.

    That's it for me, the placing of the fingers instead of playing one note at a time! Thanks!!!

    I was just discovering this for myself last night in my practice (Yes, I have a playable harp now)......You practice the song to get familiar "with the song" so you can anticipate where your fingers need to be set up for in the next musical phrase. It was my first ray of hope, because I've been feeling overwhelmed at ever sounding like......well......you for example. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what it feels like to me. Just a note: I'm still on the easy pieces. My lessons assign me to the use of the 2nd finger.

      Yes, that's right! That's awesome you discovered this in your practice 🙌🏼 Keep it up even if it feels tough, your hard work will pay off!

      @@LearningtheHarp I’m still quite young heh ^^” I’m between the ages of 11-12 :DD (I know it will be hard for such a young age, but I feel it will be better to start young and grow in music and life!)

      That’s totally fine! Many people learn the harp at that age, and even younger. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it 😃😃 if you want some inspiration on learning to play at a young age, you can look at @harpistkeziah on Instagram and see her teaching her toddler to play harp 😁

    Thank you Christy-Lynn! I just started your course. I’m playing Mahogany Moon, After the Rain, Amazing Grace and Danny boy. I’ll now go back and practice this technique to make them even better. So that when I do play more difficult songs I can be better prepared. Thank you for always reminding us in everything video how to place, sit, relax etc. I personally, need that constant reminder! I also love your bubbly personality! You make learning the harp fun!

    This is so true Christy! Just the other day I was struggling with a part of a song, I noticed that my technique looked like my fingers were landing pointing exactly like 3:45. Once I corrected it, playing that part was soooooooo much easier. So, I’m really trying to keep my technique right and the bracketing right. And I did the same I have gone back to playing more early intermediate, late beginner songs.

    I find that if music is really fast there isn't time to close the fingers all the way into the palm. Isn't this normal? What is the piece that you were playing? It sounds neat.

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  2 года назад +2

      Yes that’s normal! As long as you have the motion in the right direction, and you are closing when there IS time 👍🏻👍🏻

    Hi Christy-Lyn! Thank you so much for posting these videos, they've helped rekindle the passion for playing again after a several year hiatus. I'm having a hard time getting my finger placement down for my cross strung harp since the strings intersect - it makes my technique feel awkward, do you have any tips?

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  2 года назад

      I wish I could help, but I don’t have experience with harp technique for cross strung harps 😬 Sorry! I’m really glad your passion has rekindled. So exciting!! Sending love 💕

    By reading musical phrases instead of note by note?

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  Год назад

      Yes and also following the notes up and down and directly playing them on the harp, without “saying” them in your head as you go.

    I am researching info for my first harp. I love the sound of the Dusty Strings Cresendo 34. What do you think about the 2 different lever options? Loveland or Camac? Do you have a preference yourself? I know the Camac cost about $200 more; is it worth it?

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  Год назад

      I don’t have enough experience with the two types of levers to give you a proper opinion on this! I think this would be a good thing to ask on our website community - lots of helpful opinions there! Go to www.learningtheharp.com, you create an account and then post to the activity feed 😃
