I know that look on his face as I've had one on my own for 36 years... 67 2000, high compression, ported/larger valves, Isky cam, crank-fired, Jenvey Heritage throttle bodies and Microsquirt EFI, limited slip, vented discs, Bilstein shocks, Nissan Comp and Flexform mono-leaf springs... I've done a lot in 36 years... because I LOVE this car. It's you, the car and the road. No power assist anything. The growl of the Weber lookalike Heritage throttle bodies is a glorious sound for a 2 liter 4 cylinder engine at 7000rpm. And nothing beats a short windshielded classic convertible in the Mountains, nothing. See you in the Cascades!
My Mom bought a brand new one in 1969 I was 14 years old then. I took it on many joy rides. That car was a blast to drive, it was white with red and blue racing stripes.
Great filming of my all-time fave car from all angles (and distances)! The body color really suits the classy “Fair” lady. And, those twisty roads! I used to run touge on my MX5 and R32 Skyline quite a lot. Now that I’m older, I also enjoy going slower, appreciating the atmosphere. Thanks for this tasteful vid. I appreciate the time and effort you put in it. 🤩
I had the same model 2000 Sports. It came stock with twin SU side-draft carbs and 135 hp. If you added the Mikuni SOlex carbs - 150 hp. I had mine with Solex carbs, balanced and blueprinted, ported and polished the engine, put on headers and free-flow exhaust. It pulled 196 hp at 5500 rpm and the car weighed 2100 lbs with me in it. It surpirsed many a Vetter, Porsche, 442 or GTO who mistook it for an MGB. Still the funnest car I ever had.
This is one of the greatest car's! Datsun! I owned a Datsun 1600 roadster and loved ever minute I spent in it. 1967 Datsun 1600 roadster a great engine with no pollution devises and it never smoked. Regular oil changes and plugs and points. What a car. !! 👍👍👍❤👍👍👍...
They (the 1600s) were great but the 2000 was wicked fast for it's day. They would do 100mph in 3rd gear and it had a 5 speed tranny. I've driven a few of these cars and they are fantastic.
My brother had a 67, 1600. Silver with a black racing stripe running along the bottom, between the wheels. It was a blast for a 16 year old kid to drive. I learned the ugly truth about syncing the SU carbs. That was a pain. Yeah, the 2000s were a step above the 1600. I wish I had it now.
I had one in 1970, first car I ever bought. Fantastic and fun. Me driving my 2000: Shift at 6,000 rpm, break by down shifting and not using breaks. Pads and shoes lasted much longer.
@@snoringzoe ah yeah Mouscron don't know this city I'm born in south belgium Border of France & Luxemburg & i live Seraing ( Liège ) Take care of you & your superb car still grettings
Sound like a stock "53" vette, Basically the same power plant. Well other than it had a four cyl instead of a 6. The weight difference make's up for it.
I remember shifting gears.... There was some Datsun executive who used to go to the docks where these came off fhe ships and remove the "fairlady" nameplate. He thought that killed the car for men.
i might be mistaken doesn't Toyota have a gt2000 also?? love the sound of small cars high revving engines makes u feel like u driving a super car lol!!
I used to live in Salem and I am pretty familiar with area, but I can’t make out what roads were used here. Is this the highway between Philomath and the Coast and Mary’s Peak? Great work and beautiful car!
Amazing video !!! I recently bought a 2000 from 1968. At this time it is getting new paint done and some minor engine repairs . Can't wait to get it in 1-2 month !!! It seems do be so much fun to drive . What's your experience with yours? Did you run into some trouble since you own yours?
This video has an endless variety of different shots! Kinda neat, but it makes this video almost confusing to watch. I guess there's a reason similar videos tend to limit it to only a few. Really good work though!

Michael Culp Where was blue raving stripe? Do you have pictures? Awesome memory. I have a 1968 white with red interior.
I bought a brand new one in '69'. Lot's of power and fun to drive!
Me too!

Just a fantastic true sports car...I had a right hand drive version back in the 1970s...wish I still did!

A W. 30 442 in 1/4 mile?? Don't think so. The Datsun was no slouch, but you are dreaming on that.
Not talking 1.4 mile, only imbeciles drag race. I'm talking street racing.
The stock carbs were not SU.. they were copies.
@@jeffhildreth9244 They were Hitachi's built under license from SU and everyone on Planet Earth calls them SU. Pick someone's else's nit.

Nice ride on some gorgeous roads. I gotta get my ‘68 1600 restored & ride. Wait...I live in LA where people cannot drive. ✌🏼
Well done. I wish more were done like this. Sometimes I just want to enjoy the car and not have to listen to some guy voicing his opinion.
Amazing wonderful excellent thank you.
