Faroes? Wow, that's going to be a good series of videos! Never been there, so looking forward to seeing what you see. What are you doing on Saturday 15th July? Who could have predicted this, but Montrose is playing St Mirren in the League Cup! Fancy a wee meet-up? :-)

It's a missed opportunity for Scotrail not to put on 1st Class carriage on the Queen Street/Fort William service during the summer. There's sufficient well-healed tourists who would upgrade to get an at-seat service.
The trains are run by Serco not Scotrail, but Scotrail sells tickets for seats only north of Glasgow and Edinburgh. last time I was on there was 1st class sleeper car only and only they could access the club car,
@@mojoich2736I think @amcluesent was talking about a day train provision, not the sleeper. I agree. Perhaps use one of the Intercity 125s with a lunch service.

thank you for featuring this last trip from Fort William to Glasgow. I’ve been trying to buy a ticket for Aug 31, but the Scotrail app shows not available to buy. We need to catch an early morning flight. Again, thanks for uploading this video.
I travel all over the UK from the Scottish central belt to the south coast and the more I travel, the more I'm convinced that train operators continue more than ever to make the ticketing system even more complicated.
I know someone who works in providing Ticketing Services systems for the Transport Industries, principally within Operations. He says the UK has the most complicated and expensive ticket formats in the whole of Europe, and just trying to remember all the convoluted regulations surrounding the most simple idea, is a nightmare. But some of the travel and ticket rules, date back from the age of Steam railways which are enshrined still to this day into modern day Rail operations and are likely never to be removed!
@@iainjones5002 I totally agree. There are so many quirks and bizarre rules. My local station is run by Merseyrail but I can't buy an e-ticket for my phone to travel to London on Avanti, but I can buy a paper ticket from Avanti and have it posted to me. The only thing guaranteed is the prices keep going up!
Hello New subscriber from Durham. Love your videos, they are very relaxing. I wonder if there is a train to Glenshee? Would love to see you venture up that way in a video. Thanks 😊
what a brilliant review and information Scot - thanks. As you went through Tulloch that reminded me when I stopped there a few years a go and a saw a red squirrel
Awesome journey! I imagine this is a nicer way to travel this route than those 156s, as lovely as they are... Is a ticket from Fort William to somewhere like Crianlarich also available using this method?
Great video am going to nominate you for you tuber of the year award. Its true what they say you learn something new every day thanks for all your videos
About 30 Rail Enthusiasts on a 4 day Scottish Railtour needed to get from Hotels in Glasgow to Dumbarton early in the morning where our special train was starting from. We all booked via the scotrail app with reserved seats. The look on the coach attendant at 0540 as he saw us all on to the train at Platform 8 was a joy. Think the standard fare with railcard was about £3.50
Scott, reference the Macari query and if it was an Italian thing, it certainly is. My father told me that in the last stages of WW2, he as part of his National Service, looked after Italian POW's at a camp somewhere North of Inverness. With the end of the War, these prisoners had the option to be returned home, or be given the chance to move to varied parts of Scotland, and join their fellow compatriots who'd emigrated to Scotland in the 1890's and into the 1900's and set up businesses, usually Ice Cream parlours. There were different families in different parts of Scotland. Ice Cream parlours often became cafe's, then developed into Restaurants. Eventually, there were moved into Fish and Chip shops. Other Italian families moved into the Fairground business and some of the big travelling funfairs which would travel each week from one town to another, were usually operated by one or two big families. Codona was one such family.
Here's a challenge for you, Scott.. Rent a Brompton and go from St Pancras to Folkestone West and catch Eurotunnel Le Shuttle to Calais. Then take a regular train to Paris? See if it's feasible. Light the way for those of us who don't like Eurostar.
I've done the west highland line several times in the past, but the weather has always sucked. Your recent vids (FW and Corrour) make me want to stake out a clear day and do it properly ... it makes so much difference to the wonderful scenery.. Cheers!
Excellent video, as usual, Scott. Does anyone know how to buy a ticket from Crewe up to Scotland on the Caledonian Sleeper? It calls there just before Midnight
Sleeper trains and fast trains in England is very expensive. The solution is to split up your trip with different tickets I was told. I've been on the Caledonian sleeper a few times, the height is the haggis meal. Then I visit my friend in Glasgow, Easterhouse. It is quite embarrasing, I do speak and understand english quite good, but his glasgowean scottish accent is really hard to understand, almost like Rab C Nesbitt. Scotland is a must to visit.
I got a free one of those Scotch bottles on the sleeper because I incidentally booked a special anniversary date. Never seen it go to Queen Street though, always been Glasgow Central when I've used it (from London)
If you look at real time trains this service is booked to drop passengers off at Glasgow i was under the impression both the North and Southbound service between Fort William and Edinburgh is a service train for foot passengers
I cannot believe the 17h37 train service is the last Scotrail service of the day. That is insane… Scotrail is very good on the suburban services and central belt. But the number of trains on the West Highland line is a nightmare…
The line really lacks much frequency considering the money maker Harry Potter stream trains 🚂 to/from Mallaig which are packed out solid. Would like to think if there was spare space in the Club Car that they would be keen to get as much money out of bar and food sales as possible 🤑 but no incentive to do it 😮
It would be quite interesting to travel on from Glasgow to Carstairs and get off there to watch them shuffle the various portions of the sleeper together ahead of the onward trip south...
It is only the Lowland sleeper (Glasgow/edinburgh) which does any shunting at carstairs. The Highland portions (Aberdeen/Inverness/Fort William) are joined and combined in Edinburgh.
Ran out of the whisky? If only they could've imported more from, oh, I don't know.... a store in the next county, eh? Another example of improper planning and logistics by supposedly "national" businesses.
stunning scenery thankyou for sharing
Fantastic as always mate, thanks for doing the research for us as usual :) sitting watching this in Vágar airport - been here?

A challenge for you to do the NC500 by bus 😃

Love your videos but I find some of them are a bit small can’t you lengthen them . Just a thought I had
Agree about rear facing seats as I almost feel dizzy looking the wrong way !
Trainpal also lets you buy tickets on this route
I've been on that journey on Scotrail. There was a hen party on board enroute to Glasgow. An hilarious trip.
What a beautiful route. I have the Hope valley line close to me and always love travelling on it. But the West Highland line is in a different league.
I love the Hooe Valley Line, Hathersage station in particular, and I now live beside the Mallaig Extension Railway 😂
The reason is Scotland have now ownership of Caledonian sleeper
I did wonder what the 'challenge' was, guessing it was the miniatures.
You can also travel on the sleeper as a daytime passenger between Aviemore and Inverness, fancy it?
for all of the 40-45 minutes the journey takes!
How do you go about buying a seat 💺 ticket on this train? for the local journey intra Scotland 🏴
Worked it as a guard more times than I can remember.

Scott, why buy a sleeper ticket for a 4 hour journey.
We went to MACARIs last time we were there. Good choice!

It is at the end of the video. He was trying to get two whisky miniatures, but they were sold out.
Corrour - is that the one where the trail you were following took you into an impassable peat bog?
Will you have time to sleep in those uncomfortable seats?
Wonder if you fell asleep leaving fort William would anyone check your ticket on way to London 😅
The seating and club car are detached at Edinburgh. You would then have to join the seated carriage that comes from Aberdeen.
I do hope you complained Scott. Not good enough from Caledonian sleeper service.

How can you mentioned climate change and than start after mentioning the ice age, we have no control over the climate the ice age should tell you that
