My wife and I got married in the Tron church, just further up Buchanan Street, then the whole wedding party walked down the street to the Sloans ballroom for our reception :) We wanted to hire a piper, but it just so happened that the day of our wedding was also the world piping championships in Glasgow Green, so we were unable to get one. In the end we didn't need one because Buchanan Street was full of piper buskers who, on seeing us marching down the street, all played the wedding march. Absolutely incredible day :)

I'm 73. Born in Glasgow moved to Canada when I was 16 and I've never been home. I've also never been in a pub. I loved this video. I didn't expect the pubs to be so big and beautiful. The luxurious woodwork, the banisters and history were amazing. I've watched most of your videos. Makes me yearn for home. Keep up the great work.

Glasgow is the friendliest place in Scotland! I broke down in my car with the kids in tow. Couple of chaps helped me to push the car to the side and a passing policeman took me and the kids to a cafe. One of the chaps fixed the car so I could get home and no charge. Wouldn’t happen in Edinburgh! That was in 1998. Great video again!

The older owner guy (i think he has health issues) was so nice and showed me all the photos, told me the history, etc - was a great experience ❤ i over indulged, dont remember leaving though 😂

There can never be too many pub videos, excellent work. Glasgow had many handsome pubs before the second world war, and far too many of them were lost to redevelopment. If only we had had RUclips in the 1960s and 70s so we could see what they were like inside.

I so agree. The same can be said of say Cardiff. The pubs I visited in the 1980’s have largely disappeared. They were incredible. Such a loss. Why is RUclips so late to the table 😢

Just visited Glasgow in August 2022 for the first time and I fell deepy in love with this city. Watching your video (randomly presented by the youtube algorithm) made me ache inside to get to see Glasgow again! Lovely presentation! As a whisky lover, the Pot Still was the only one I had also visited, so now I have much more to consider on my next visit. For your next visit, do try the Islay Inn, The Piper, and my very favorite, The Bon Accord. Thanks so much for this!

As a proud Brummie I can say that Glasgow is the second best city in the world. The Laurieston looked fantastic. The Pot Still looks like Heaven and 10 year old Benromach is a wonderful way to start on the slippery slope to nirvana.
Perhaps you should do some more on Glasgow. Many people think it’s still a dismal, dirty city and of course it is anything but. The architecture, Central Station, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Clyde, the pubs, the museums and galleries are all fantastic.

Great video. I had my retiral do in the State Bar, in the basement room. A couple of well known pubs you missed out on. The Griffin which is close to the State and has only recently reopened. It used to be split into three sections - the Griffin, the Griffiny and the Griffinette. I don't know if that's still the same but I'm going for a meal there next Wednesday so will find out then. The other pub is the Bon Accord in North Street, just the other side of the M8 motorway. Well known for its wide choice of guest beers and whisky.

Unfortunately its been closed since Feb 2020 as the owners of the buildings on that block decided to replace all the properties with a soulless eurobox hotel. Hi Steve,
Regarding Glasgow pubs, I only know the name of one pub. All the big whisky enthusiasts rave about it as the place to go. Many whisky lovers from all around the world, when visiting Glasgow, make a "pilgrimage" there, being the most famous of all Whisky pubs. Moreover, many famous whisky personalities frequent this pub. I'm talking about the "Bon Accord" pub, 153 North Street. If I ever do go into a Glaswegian pub in the future, it will probably be this one.

The Bon Accord is great but for whisky personally prefer The Pot Still (featured) and ‘The Ben Nevis’ in Finnieston (not featured). As a local, I can’t argue with your ratings of The Laurieston and The Scotia my favourites along with The Allison Arms on the south side which is also well worth a visit.

I do love a pub crawl! In my misspent youth (living in London) the Circle Line Marathon was a common occurrence in the festive season. Thats getting on the Tube Circle Line at Liverpool Street and get off at every station on the Circle Line and visit the nearest pub, I think it was 24 stations, so, it was most definitely a last man standing scenario and although I remember the starts I'm a bit hazy about the ends…… One year we ended up in Brentwood 'cos we got on the wrong (last) train…..

If you are looking for the old world style of boozer then the Saracen Head at Gallowgate and Brechins Bar in Govan bring it. The Laurieston is a Time Machine and should be inherited and preserved by the national trust.

You down a drink at the nearest pub, and continue on until they're back where they started - albeit in a worst state than when they started.
