Coming from outside of Scotland, people don’t realize how hectic the rest of the world is. Not that Scottish people don’t know how to knuckle down- but that’s not all they know how to do. Glasgow is a vibe. Scotland is a vibe.
@@markfojas689 no it isn't, it's just the same as every other country. It has good bits, it has bad bits. It's no better than dozens of other countries. It's like saying sandwiches are a vibe. It's a completely meaningless statement.
@@sandersson2813 Can both our subjective realities exist in the same spaces? And based on my life of well over half a century and having experiences living in vastly different parts of the world and very different cultures in rural, urban, suburban settings- when I say it’s a vibe I don’t think you know what I uniquely know. When I say it’s a vibe Glasgow resonates with ME. I like the overall city and the different people. I like it better than say, San Francisco or San Jose. Maybe you’re so close to it that you don’t know what you have (if you are Glaswegian- which you don’t seem to be). Okay. You win. It’s not a vibe. Sandwiches are not a vibe.
@@markfojas689 Of course, bit it's probably best not to describe Scotland as something it isn't. It isn't a vibe, at least no more than any other country is a vibe. There is nothing especially different or unique about Scotland. It's just a country. I'm certainly NOT a Glaswegian, bit saying something is a "vibe" is frankly meaningless. It has no explanatory function to use it like that.
Okay. I disagree. I live in Scotland, in a neighboring town of Glasgow and I disagree. Have done- for years. My opinion. Sorry, Phoebe, what you expressed in your video it really touched me.
@@markfojas689no you don’t need to apologise. What you said is absolutely correct. The person replying is just being argumentative for the sake of it. They don’t agree that “it’s a vibe” is a relatable statement. Sanderson is a English/east of Scotland name so kinda explains it
I come from Glasgow and the people here tend to have humour that revolves around self-deprecation. It's easy for a lot of Glaswegians to not recommend their city or say bad stuff about it, purely because it's so common to do so. I am sure the guy loves Glasgow really, but doesn't really think anyone not born here would. But of course, that's wrong. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, it really is a one of a kind city.

Most people don't visit the most interesting places in their home towns, until they are gone a long time. It took me over sixty years to go the Cathedral and surrounding areas, which I loved. It's a great place for visitors.

Glasgow people are friendly, good sense of humour and very kind. We enjoy meeting people and I am glad you had a great experience here. It is a busy city but defo has a fibe. Hi again. You proved me wrong to an extent as well. I have been in Glasgow a few times, the last being a few months ago and it has never been my favourite place. I have missed out on a fair bit of what you have seen however. The Botanic Gardens looks amazing. I have had a number of odd experiences there too. What I do love about the place is The Barrowlands. It's an amazing concert venue - very authentic. I'm over again next year, so I may well book my flight over for a bit earlier to see some sights I have missed out on. I'm really looking forward to the Edinburgh video. For me it's one of the world's great cities.
Really?! Wow - I guess you've been seeing it from a different angle. I also got extremely lucky with some gorgeous weather. It didn't last all day but I was thankful for the warm sunshine in the morning :) Hope you can visit again and see more of Glasgow - I loved it!

Edinburgh is the glamourous sister that everyone thinks is stunning and automatically drawn to their obvious beauty. Glasgow is the quieter less glam sister that once you get to know her, she'll give the best hugs, you'll have the best laugh with and want to get to know better.

Would love to see your home country (I think you mentioned you are from Australia in your northern Ireland video. Sorry if I am wrong. Relatively new subscriber )
Interested to see because you're hitting the "expected" spots of the Highlands and Edinburgh next, but for me Glasgow is Scotland's hidden gem. It's a very down to earth and friendly city that embraces it's industrial past. The Riverside Museum is one of my favourites to visit (also free!) and house the museum of transport. Public transport is great too, lots of trains and one of the world's oldest subways that has barely changed since it was built. Also great for cycling, lots of paths and routes that take in the sights and spotting the many locations used in movies.
Just come back from Glasgow, it’s completely changed my opinion about the city. It’s so beautiful, people is so friendly, helpful kind.I stayed at Z hotel, the heart of the city.I felt very safe. There is so much still to explore about the city and off course highlands is something else ❤ xx Braw 😊

Oh and Phoebe with regards the traffic cone on top of the head of the Duke of Wellington which you loved you are correct the local council and local police went to great efforts to stop it happening but no sooner had they removed one another was in its place straight away and so eventually they just gave up and now it is agreed that it will be there permanently.

Hiya! Universities in the United Kingdom are from a different level. They’re so gorgeous, the building, the groundings, the parks, I would have loved studying in the UK. The way you feel at ease in Glasgow is how I feel when I go to London every year. And I felt so at ease in Australia as well. It’s a whole different vibe compared to my home in The Netherlands. Fun fact about Glasgow: While Nelson Mandela was a prisoner in his own country he was awarded the Freedom of the City of Glasgow. The city council also changed the name of St. George's Place in the city to Nelson Mandela Place to embarrass the South African government as their Consulate's offices were located there.

Yes fellow weegie and it has changed a lot over the years it’s really not a great as it once was but as you say plenty of wee gems still and it’s true people do make Glasgow 💜
Totally. The 90s especially were incredible years to cut your teeth in Glasgow.
Thanks for watching! :) I had a great visit!
I’m completely blown away by the thought this city must have been absolutely fantastic in the Victorian era and we can still enjoy its enchanting sights today
Don’t visit Glasgow, said no true Glaswegian ever! The guy was clearly what we call, a chancer! As an exiled Glaswegian, I love going back to my home city. The warmth and friendliness, shopping, parks, museums and cuisine, Glasgow is world class! Glad you enjoyed the ‘dear green place’.
An exiled wegie?!
Wha ya mean?
You left as a wean?
ohhhh shut it ! I can already tell you have a nasal accent with yer pish patter .... she is doin ma nut in as are you !I am on Team Random Glasgow Guy that told her not to bother .... bet she was not down the Trongate, The Gallowgate, Easterhouse, Possil, Drumchapel etc just sipping coffee in a stupid Hub Hotel .... wish it had rained when she visited to give her the REAL Glasgow experience!
Before your Ireland vlog, I was literally planning to go to Ireland, Glasgow and Edinburgh for my birthday trip next year. And here I am, watching your videos, in that order!!! ❤
hahaha I could sense it :) great timing!
❤ most Australians can trace their roots back to the UK myself included,Scotland particularly I loved it also
Thanks for watching :) Have a great day!
Yeah. ACDC main guys are from Glasgow.
So cool and laidback vibe in your vlog.Glasgow is soo different from Dublin. You're into art and museums, that's good.I really liked this vlog! So calm and peaceful. Thanks Phoebe!
Yes definitely a very chilled vibe for this one :) Loved it!
The surrounding environment is truly amazing. I really enjoyed watching the video.❤👍
Tunnocks Tea Cakes are a must btw! Glad you loved the vibes 💖
Is that the little thing that's like... a marshmallowy thingy? haha sorry I don't know how to describe it! I kept seeing them everywhere so tried one and LOVED it. The perfect sweet treat with a cup of tea! Thanks for watching :)
Thats them 😂😂 loved this video ❤ come back soon, Glasgow is the best city ever and i dont live there 😂 people make glasgow ❤ 🏴@travelforphoebe
I'm doing the crying for you....
You are wonderful...the perfect person - and soul - to make these videos of Scotland. Thank you for being you and doing what you do. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
you're so kind - thank you for the lovely words
i'm chuffed she enjoyed her visit, proud to be scottish even tho we're pish at footy. the toon is a unique city, wan nite me n mates went clubbing, n saw 2 rockets dressed as batman n robin fightin wae the polis oan sauchiehall, wisnae even close tae halloween.
What a lovely vlog of Glesca' ❤ And it didn't rain. Come visit the Briggait next time too!😊
Great vlog Pheobe, Glasgow looks amazing. Love the architecture 😍
Thanks for watching :) Have a great day!
Fantastic video, lass. Honestly, sometimes it takes someone coming in from the outside for us to realise how blessed we are to have a city like this.
Haste ye back!
What a lovely comment 🥰🙌🏻🏴 thank you so so much!
@@travelforphoebe Of course! I'll admit to hating on my city too on occasion. It can have its moments, especially for residents and people who grew up here (as I'm sure is true for any city), so I'm sorry that a comment like that stuck with you so much.
I'm genuinely pleased you had a nice time, and you're of course welcome back any time. 😊
Glasgow made you cry girl it will forever be in your heart glad to have you come back sone ❤❤
Thank you 🥰🙌🏻
Most people don't visit the most interesting places in their home towns, until they are gone a long time. It took me over sixty years to go the Cathedral and surrounding areas, which I loved. It's a great place for visitors.
Keep shining that positivity. Love the vids. Cheers
Thank you so much :)
To paraphrase our national bard, it is a gift to see ourselves as others see us. Really glad you visited Glasgow, even happier than you showcased it so well. Also nice to see some of my old haunts in the West End. Haste ye back.
I’ve said the same thing in the past . I suppose you just get jaded with your home town. Thanks for proving me wrong.
I live in Glasgow and used to regularly spend time in the west end....great video!
Thanks for watching :)
Thank you for visiting the lovely Glasgow! hope you come back soon
Hi From Scotland. Came across your channel. I was born in Glasgow and lived there for a very long time. Now out in the countryside in Scotland. Glasgow people are friendly, good sense of humour and very kind. We enjoy meeting people and I am glad you had a great experience here. It is a busy city but defo has a fibe. I love Edinburgh and Glasgow but Edinburgh is way more expensive. ❤
Thanks
WOW! Thank you SO much :) So generous of you!
Another fine vlog Phoebe. Harriet and I enjoyed our time in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness . Well worth visting. Harriet and I came away from Scotland with many friends we see to this day. Warm, Friendly and a Great Sense of Humor. Hope you enjoyed your time there. How was the weather when you were there? Sending you love❤ and affection from Harriet, Jim and Yuki Richmond, VA.
Thank you so much you guys! The weather was great :)
Next time you're in Glasgow I'll take you to the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall. The oldest surviving Music Hall in the World where Stan Laurel made his debut. I used to do the talks there and I'll give you a tour.
What a spectacularly gorgeous place! I'm so glad you defied the advice to avoid Glasgow, and we got to see what a lovely place this is! I'm definitely going to plan a visit - I want to experience that vibe!
Me too - I was really put off by the comments! So glad I visited anyway because I LOVED it :)
Absolutely loved this! Brilliant! Glasgow is a vibrant friendly city which came across in this video! 👏
Thank you for a truly brilliant review of my city… I love it
Every city has its challenges, it just seems that people like to talk the city down, like the guy you thankfully ignored, so that rep becomes an expectation… most unfairly.
You did a great job showcasing the city with such genuine warmth and appreciation
And you went to Sugo
A Glasgow secret….
Thank you :)
Thank you for your lovely vlog of our wonderful city
Love your video , I work in the University , when were you there , it looks really quiet before the students came back for term . Hope you had a fantastic time .
Glasgow a far superior city to Edinburgh 😂more junkies and steamers on the royal mile than there is tourists Edinburgh us a dump and once you’ve seen the castle that’s everything covered to see 👌🏻🏴🏴
Haha glad you loved Glasgow, best city and the guy who said he was from Glasgow and said don’t come was definitely from Edinburgh, city rivalry game
Oh dear! 😂🙌🏻
Beat me to it 😂
e have a saying in Glasgow ,You can stand at a bus stop in Glasgow and make a friend for life ,you can stand at a bus stop in Edinburgh for life and never make a friend 😂
I went to the University of Glasgow (my home town) for 4 years. I never appreciated how stunning the place is
Wow - what a beautiful place to study!
Edinburgh is the glamourous sister that everyone thinks is stunning and automatically drawn to their obvious beauty. Glasgow is the quieter less glam sister that once you get to know her, she'll give the best hugs, you'll have the best laugh with and want to get to know better.
Thanks for watching :) I absolutely loved Glasgow!
Aww that's such a great analogy! 😊
Glasgow is certainly not quieter in any shape or form are you mad ?
Glasgow is definitely NOT quieter than Edinburgh. Absolute opposite.
Wasn't glamorous on Tuesday when the riot police were deployed 😏
a 99 is the name of a classic ice cream cone sold by ice cream vans. normally a cone with vanilla ice cream, strawberry/raspberry sauce and a flake in it. a childhood favourite. next time you go to glasgow you should try the south side of the city!
You were in my neighbourhood in the first 10 minutes of that video, the really trendy area of Glasgow.
I have spent the last 20 years living in the west end and I do not get bored of it.
Oh wow that's so cool! what a beautiful area to live in :) I can see why you adore it.
Hi Phoebe glad you enjoyed our city. We love it.
Glasgow and her people are the heart and soul of Scotland, thoroughly enjoyed your film 👍✌️
😍😍😍
Welcome to Glasow. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Great video - Looking forward to seeing more!
Thank you! 😃
Ex Glasgow pat here. Fantastic video. Thank you sooooo much. I’ve been living near London for the last 40 years, but don’t miss Glasgow one bit. However, I have been, and will always will be, proud of my home city!
Thanks for watching :) I LOVED your home city!
I'm from Aberdeen, and I love Glasgow. Just such a cool City!!
Totally agree!!
The video quality is next level love your vlogs
Thanks for watching :) Have a great day!
@@travelforphoebe when are you coming back to India 🇮🇳
When is the next travel vlog from India is coming??
Hey! Loved your video! Glasgow is my home city and I love it. That guy you met is almost certainly from Edinburgh! 🤣 Edinburgh is a beautiful city and I'm sure you will enjoy it there, but Glasgow is definitely the friendly city. As you said it's a great place to visit on a wet day (which we get plenty of 😉) as many great (free) places of interest to visit indoors. You went to some of my favourite places. I love the museum and art galleries, the botanic gardens, Ashton lane, ...
Hope you really enjoy the remainder of your time in Scotland. 😊😊
Thanks for watching :)
So happy to see you in Glasgow!! Im heading there next year. I have 2 nights there. I'm planning on visiting the Cathedral, University and Necropolis. Wish I had known about your hotel before I booked. Glasgow is my last stop before flying back to Australia. Hopefully I won't be too tired or home sick and I will still appreciate it. Hope you visit other areas too.
Oh amazing! You're going to have the best time :) I'm sure your hotel will be perfect!
I'm flying to Edinburgh right now ;) Maybe I do a daytrip to Glasgow. Greetings
You should! :) It's so easy on the train - like an hour and you're there. well worth checking out
Phoebe thanks for showing us Glasgow. This is turning out to be my fav travel vlogging channel. Also Phoebe whenever you go to Australia next time I hope you would make videos there too.
Thanks for watching! :)
Glad you enjoyed yourself. Great vlog :)
What time of year did you visit Glasgow? The weather looks really good.
Great video Phoebe, as a Scot myself I have a funny feeling his comment was "tongue in cheek", pretty much forcing you to go and check it out for yourself and it worked as you have just posted a video that "Visit Scotland" would have paid a fortune to make...lol
hahaha it worked alright :) Maybe he secretly works for the tourism board?!
I've been in Campbeltown since lock-down and you've done more exploring of my nearest city than I have! Thanks for showing it off in such a refreshing positive way! Now I'll know where to check out.
Since lockdown? Did you go insane before, during or after 😂 Just jesting with you. I spent a summer working up the road in carradale, it was interesting.
Thanks for watching :) Have a great day!
@@BrianMac2601 Carradale's lovely. I bought a block of flats in Campbeltown in auction! It looked a good deal on paper..............Got trapped here surviving covid costs were meant for renovation. It's pretty ok unless someone takes a disliking to you then it's unpleasant and way too far away from the authorities. Yeah I never thought I'd be sayin that. One day I hope to join my half sisters south of Perth Australia, nice and warm and quiet, get a hobby..
@lkn4jolly it was nice, I liked the golf course and the views on the doorstep, nothing else to do but put wages back into the till drinking with the locals lol. Aye covid fkd everyone over but you've got goals mate.
Greatest City in the World, just saying from a Glaswegian 💙😎🇬🇧😊
Haha I LOVED it! 🥰
That cone on the statue cranked me up 😂. Let your feelings go, don’t hold it in, we’re all human and we will understand. Your hotel looks perfect and seems to be made for solo travelers. And if you’re in the UK you must have Cadbury ❤. Thanks for sharing Glasgow and I’ll see you in Edinburgh 🤙
Aren't they gorgeous?! Like a fairtyle!
I am from Glasgow and its a wonderful city. I love it here.
Great blog Phoebe. But you should have visited the university cafe. The oldest ice cream cafe and chippy in Glasgow run by the same family for decades. You definitely missed out on that one
I live across fr the botanic Gardens. You should have went for a walk along the kelvin River. Nice peaceful walk 👍
Fun fact about Glasgow:
While Nelson Mandela was a prisoner in his own country he was awarded the Freedom of the City of Glasgow. The city council also changed the name of St. George's Place in the city to Nelson Mandela Place to embarrass the South African government as their Consulate's offices were located there.
@@orraman5427 I remember the name change.....the South Afican Consulate was raging having to put Nelson's name on all their correspondence ....lol....Nelson loved it though when he visited.
God, I'm currently painting that car park across from Sugo on night shift (I work for NCP)... you should have popped in there for a very good chance of a culture shock in the stairwell.
I can't believe you were in Glasgow Phoebe!!! omg I wish I would have bumped into you
hahaha I'm very very shneaky ;) oooooh you know I LOVE pizza!
Amazing thing showing the rest of the world Scotland and that there is more to the U.K than just London! If you get a chance, head down to Newcastle (my home town), promise you'll enjoy it as much as Glasgow and Eburgh!!! 😊
Thanks so much for watching :)
The statue of the DoW with the cone on his head is a Glasgow icon 😀
Loved this video. Glasgow is indeed amazing, next time jump on the train to Gourock- 45 mins away and the best views
Thanks for watching! :)
I'm so pleased you enjoyed Glasgow University, it's one of my favourite places too.
@travel for Phoebe probably to late or already mentioned there's 3 open to the public museums on the university of Glasgow campus and a 4 th that you have to make an appointment for, glad you liked the second city of the empire 👍
Thanks for the tips anyway - I'll save them for next time :)
The Social hub is opposite the "Panoptican theartre",where comedian Stan Laurel, made his stage debut!
Thanks for watching :) Have a great day!
Provand’s Lordship built in 1471 the oldest house in Glasgow is in your video, just down from the Cathedral.
Thank you for enjoying our fair city!! 🫶🫶🫶
Hash in Glasgow is clearly very different to hash in Amsterdam 😎 Cool video, Glasgow does indeed get a bad wrap compared to Edinburgh. Onya for doing your bit to bust the myth!
hahahahahaha
In Scotland, when the ice cream van would come round, you would get a 99, scoop of vanilla ice cream in a cone, with raspberry sauce
Ahhhhhh!! Thank you sooo much! That makes a lotta sense ☺️🙏🏼
great video, glad you had a lovely time here :)
You got decent weather for your trip, which is a rarity here, even in summer.
Well done Phoebe, should have come to Southside and seen the lovely village of Giffnock. You’ve done a great job for the Glasgow tourist board!
Thanks for watching :) Have a great day!
@@travelforphoebe thanks Phoebe, will continue to do. I’m off to Shanghai & Bali today. Have seen your report from Bali too. Thanks again
Thanks for great and honest review 👌
Thank you so much for watching :)
I live in Glasgow and take it a wee bit for granted. Glad you enjoyed yersel - it's a fantastic city with lots and lots to do. Unlike Edinburgh, it doesn't rip you off at every turn.
I loved it :)
I have always wanted to visit Glasgow and Scotland and this video just made it worse. What a beautiful city and it’s special to see it through your cameras. I can understand why someone actually from a place would say “why bother.” I sometimes feel that way about my hometown (maybe because it is the #1 tourist destination), but glad you went anyway and got to look at it through fresh and positive eyes. Also, know what you mean about getting a “vibe” from a great place. Love that feeling while traveling. Really like you keeping the “mm hmm” while eating the ice cream-that’s a positive review if ever we saw one!! Thanks for not letting us fall off the table (also, glad you kept that in. Very funny!). Ah!! Erin freaked out when you said your Gma made you bubble and squeak…her Gaga (grandma who was from Brisbane) made her the same when she was a kid!! She made it for me once too. How cool! (And a great dish!)
Looking forward to hearing why the trip meant so much to you. Hope those aren’t bad tears.
Rob&Erin
PS: sorry we’ve been absent of late-we’ve seen all your latest videos but, between work and hurricanes, I’ve just not had time to even sit and say “Hi”. But all is better now. See you in the comments again next time! 😊
I was there 38 years ago and again May 2024. my opinion is Edinburgh is the best and my son 24 and I felt Glasgow just want worth it either, delisted the five star hotel which was fantastic in every way... Kimpton has the best spa, pool, sauna, snow room, etc facilities,,,, plus happy hour is free each evening.
Thanks for watching :) Have a great day!
Revels were great until they started to put raisins in them 10 or so years ago.
Great video! I spent a lot of time in Glagow a long time ago but not been there since 2008. Definitely need to head back soon.
Thanks for watching all the way to the end :)
I lived in Edinburgh but worked in Glasgow for 5 years, consider i got the best of both worlds. But you have missed the real Glasgow - it is the people. You need to go into one of the many classic, world class pubs and strike up conversations, or locals on the street - all of whom will make you feel like a privileged insider for spending you precious time in their city. Oh, and you had lunch virtually next door but skipped one of the most iconic places in Glasgow- the famous Ubiquitous Chip! But your enthusiasm truly conveys the charm of this overlooked, underrated gem of a city!
Great vlog of my hometown Phoebe! ❤
I'm so happy you liked it :)
As a Glaswegian don’t listen to people who talk down their own city. Fantastic city!!
Live 15 minutes from Glasgow and learnt a lot, thanks!
