I am from Northern Ireland so good to see my homeland portrayed in a postive light
I just visited Belfast for the first time a month ago. I too stayed at the Maryville B&B. I absolutely loved it. The breakfasts were so healthy and tasty. I expected the weather to be more like what you experienced, but lucked out with sunny warm days.
First of all thank you! 😊 Being from Northern Ireland I hear so much negativity, so it's so great to hear a fresh perspective from someone with so much travel experience. You did such a great job of selling us. For Belfast I would really recommend the Ballyhackmore area of Belfast for food. I love Enniskillen and the surrounding area for it's beautiful scenery. The Marble Arch caves are great. For Belfast St Georges Market - great food and crafts, and the Titanic Museum. One on my earliest childhood memories is screaming my head off as a toddler as my parents took me across the rope bridge. You went over on a windy day! 😮Nope! 😂 On another note I have had a bit of a career change which has freed up a few days a week. I am hoping to work part time as a tour guide somewhere so maybe our paths will cross when you are back. Also - I worked in Derry for 6 months once. Good luck with understanding that accent!😂

Great video, nice you came up north. Derry is a perfect gateway into Donegal, which is a must next time. Belfast has really up'ed it's game the last 30yrs. So much to see there now, especially on a night out. Best of all (anywhere in Ireland) is the people. We're here to try and make any visitor's stay as pleasant as possible, and take great pleasure in doing so.
I'm gonna have to come back again and stay for much longer haha there's SO much more I need to see and do now!

I remember reading about the Giant's Causeway from a children's encyclopedia when I was a wee lad. Was super intrigued at the time but I had forgotten about it for the past 30yrs+. But thanks to your trip and video, it's now back on the agenda as a place I'd really love to visit. Thank you!

Hi Phoebe, this is my first time seeing any of your videos, you did a great job. I am a Belfast local, I highly recommend not skipping Titanic Belfast, , it is not your typical museum, infact its not even a museum but an experience with interactive galleries and a dark ride through a recreation of the ship yard, It has won the accolade of the world's top tourist attraction. Other places I highly recommend seeing in Belfast are the free City Hall tour, Stormont Tour, Belfast Castle+Walk up Cavehill, St George's Market, Lady Dixon Park, as for the rest of Northern Ireland, Newcastle & the Mourne Mountains, Glenariff Forest Park & Waterfalls, Binevenagh and so on, I could go on forever. By the way, another thing we like to say about the Titanic is that "she was ok when she left". PS You're also welcome to come along with my free Mourne Mountains hiking group if you fancy a hike.
I brought my Son up a couple of years ago as he was studying the Titanic in primary school, a great experience not to be missed! We had a great time, highly recommended!

Hi Phoebe, what an amazing vlog of our wee part of the world. Northern Ireland is so often over looked when people visit Ireland. It looked like you had an amazing time, crammed so much in to your road trip, but my goodness, missed so much as well. NI has so many beautiful places and cool places to visit and things to do, the gobbins cliff path, carrickfergus castle, glens of Antrim, Antrim Coast road, Mourne mountains, Ulster museums, the list goes on.

I lived in Northern Ireland with my x wife for years and I loved it and the people there's good and bad all over the world I loved my ulster fry 😊it's a special country my great grandparents are from co wexford lol from me in England 😊

I visited Royal County Down golf club recently to watch the Irish Open, and its a really beautiful area, the course is nestled between the Mourne mountains and the sea. Gorgeous spot ...

When you were in Botanic Gardens you were literally just yards away from the Ulster Museum which sits in the top end of the park. Closing time 5pm, admission free. Various exhibits.

Harriet and I had a wonderful time in Derry and Belfast. We found the cuisine exceptional . We did a foodie and a history tour with a guide. Well worth it. We did do the Titanic Museum,
It was worth a look . Took a black car tour that talks about the turmoil of the past. The guide was quite informative and entertaining about Belfast. Phoebe, do go back. I’m from Derry but live in Belfast so have a fair bit of knowledge of both cities. There’s so much to do in both cities in terms of culture, history and just downright exploring and what’s great is there is something for everyone to discover and explore. The food scene in both cities is incredible, lots of street food and start up restaurants as well as the trusted older restaurants that have been around for a while. Lots of markets, museums and of course great nightlife in both cities with live music. Belfast is a much bigger city experience if that’s your thing but if you aren’t really a city person then Derry isn’t too big and the perfect city to explore and spend a weekend.

40mins south of Belfast is the GOT studio tour.
The beauty of both cities is you aren’t ever far from nature and somewhere to relax or be active in nature with the many beaches, mountains and hills you can explore aswell as ancient forests and some magical spots you would never know existed.

I've travelled to every country on these islands, and every capital city. By far Béal Feirste (Belfast) is the friendlest capital city, with London and Caerdydd the worst. The rest of N.I. is very friendly.

In good weather, Divis & Black Mountain on the edge of Belfast (or alternatively climb Cave Hill)
Downhill/Benone & Mussenden Temple
The parts of the Causeway Coast route that you missed: Ballintoy, Ballycastle, Cushendun, Torr Head, Cushendall, Glenariff, Glenarm, etc.
Some of the above were, of course, GoT locations (plus a potential detour to The Dark Hedges)
The area around Strangford Lough is criminally overlooked by most tourists
The Mourne Mountains
Rathlin Island
Lough Erne & Fermanagh in general
Trust me, it'll take you at least a week. There are very few places in the world where so much is packed into such a small area!
Oh my gosh, I feel like I need at least another 4 weeks in Ireland to do it properly! I can't quite believe how much I missed and how much I want to see now - this first trip was such a great introduction to the country :) Can't wait to visit again!

Hiya! Rain and overcast, that sounds like the typical UK/Irish weather. I’d rather pay 31 GBP than 45 EUR for my fuel. The landscape is breathtaking, regardless of the weather. Dunlace castle looks great. That bridge oer the sea, through the nature, is so beautiful. Sad that you couldn’t make it in time, but good that you still had time to walk around the botanical garden. I’ll be catching up in 2 weeks as I’m going to Spain this Thursday. Thanks for sharing your Ireland adventure and have a great week ahead 🤙

The last time I felt as cold as you looked Phoebe, was walking along the sea front at Port Lincoln Sth Aust.. the bitterly cold Antarctic wind burnt into our faces ❄️🧤🧣🥶.. not very pleasant at all so even though I am of Irish ancestry I think I will be visiting in summertime😂

I am an Australian living in northern Ireland since 2018. There is a lot more to NI for sure, including many games of thrones filming locations like the dark hedges and Castle Ward. Also can visit the grave site of St Patrick in Downpatrick the St that causes the world to get drunk 1 day a year 😂
1. The titanic museum is actually brilliant and I'm not into the titanic either as its not just about the ship but the history of NI.
2. Games of thrones studio tour is a must for any GOT fans. Look a white walker in the eyes its creepy
3. There is an array of very old pubs like Kelly's cellar dating back to 1700s with live traditional Irish music and the Crown Liquor Saloon
4. Black taxi tour to learn the history of The Troubles
5. St Georges Market especially on Saturday and have a Belfast bap
And thats just a few things that I consider things you must do in Belfast and not to be missed
A night out in Belfast on a Friday or Saturday night is also good craic as they say here
I’m from Belfast although moved to England many many years ago. I willalways consider Belfast my home and the best place by far in the UK.
I’d agree with Sharon’s list above. You have loads more GofT locations to see. A must is a political black can tour to understand The Troubles which is such a defining and important part of Belfast’s recent history.
And you definitely haven’t “done” Belfast until you have experienced a real night out around some of the fabulous local pubs with plenty of live music and Belfast craic 😂

You’ve things like ‘the dark hedges’ plus Balintoy harbour I think they were both in Game if Thrones, around the corner from Balintoy you’ve Bothy coffee which is a nice stop along the coast. Used to live in straya years ago, year in Syd then 6 months around the east coast, need to get back for a trip to see a few m8’s and Nrl finals or Origin

Incredibly contentious to choose one flag over the other. About half the population here accept the UK "Union Jack" as their flag, and the other half the Ireland "Tricolour" as the flag. You are best including both or neither, but choosing one over the over is probably going to cause an argument.
also Northern Ireland is not "technically " Part of the UK, it IS Part of the UK the name of the UK is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland "

As someone from Mexico iam visiting Dublin in November .I was thinking about going to Northern Ireland but I've read things it could be a dangerous place for a Catholic ?
Just avoid talking about religion and politics and you'll be fine.
No it is only if you were Catholic AND irish
Irish American and Catholic and visited in 2016. No problems people were so happy that the Good Friday agreement had bought some normalcy to their lives. I took the Black Taxi tour of the sights of the troubles (must see!) loyalist and republican areas, even went to Sinn Fein headquarters since our driver was IRA. He loved the peace, his grandkids could go downtown and he didn't have to worry. He loved they were living life. His son had become the first Catholic Lord Mayor of Belfast. Our hotel's parking lot had been the scene of a giant bonfire days before on the 11th night. It was a far cry from 1999 when I drove my rental car with Irish Republic plates into the north on the eve of the marching season on a quest to see the giants causeway from Donegal. Our landlady warned us to get out of the north before sunset. "They won't hurt you but they may burn your car." We also toured the Bushmills Distillery and the beautiful young guide who was likely Protestant when she saw me looking at the orange hand flags offered, "I wish this would all go away so I could be proud of my home". From the video Phoebe sent it seems they've continued their progress. So go! Enjoy! There are nice people there and I would gladly go back!

Apart from certain areas it's a lot more normal now. People just get on with stuff. There is none of that where I live.

Murals of lads with assault rifles and balaclavas. People gawking at the reg on your car. It’s better but it’s still not “normal”.

@@youngcrippen Maybe when you live amongst it, you don’t see it quite as starkly. As someone from down Mexico way (half an hour from the border) the dysfunction still sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s no longer debilitating the place like it used to but it’s really very odd.
Odd maybe, but sadly in 2024 not as odd as it should be. I've been in a number of big European cities where dividing lines are at least as stark, just not down the same axis. It's not a good thing. I do live a genuinely untroubled (pardon the pun) life with absolutely no issue about walking down any street anywhere. Bizarrely the only time I have been asked what foot I kick with was in Glasgow - twice in one day.
The first thing youll probably notice about up here is how horrible the roads are compared to down south. Watch out for those potholes
