Summit One Vanderbilt isn't exactly "brand new". It opened almost three years ago and the crowds have increased since then. For a less crowded experience, book the first slot in the morning. Also, it is way less crowded and easier to get unobstructed photos on the second level up with the same exact view. I think it's totally worth it. Also, if you don't want to do a whole visit at The Met, you can still go into the lobby which is stunning and gives you an idea for what kind of place it is. Sitting on the front stairs and people watching is worth it as well!

Wow! So many iconic sights! I have a big picture of Grand Central Station in my office. I really need to go there some time. New York seems to be ingrained in western culture so much that most of us feel drawn to it. That's kinda gutsy to go there alone. I'm impressed!

I also moved around- Upper East Side, Hanover Square-Wall Street, SoHo, Columbus Circle… each neighborhood had so much to offer. I truly miss how walkable it is. Some years, I even walked to and from work daily! It’s not fun sitting in traffic on the freeway from Santa Monica to DTLA for work, aaargh! I truly hope you get to live there someday, Phoebe!

Hands down my favourite city I've ever visited. The people watching is next level x 500. Like you, the first day we were there it poured rain. Got lost heading to..yes..Chelsea Market... so sat ourselves down in the window of a Starbucks and people watched for 45mins. Best free entertainment ever. Will absolutely be back. The WTC was still there, and I also remember buying a computer from a place in Chinatown on Christmas Eve which wasn’t the most sensible thing to do (it was faulty). We also went on a tour and the guide left us a r the Met for 4 hours! Most of the people on the tour did the bolt and went shopping instead. Looking forward to your next destination.
With all those steps (wow), I think you proved that NYC is best seen on foot! The high line is so much fun. They’re installing a 16 foot pigeon on it in the fall 😂. I hope you gave the legs a rest after a PACKED three days. It’s a fun place to live. The expense of the city certainly makes it a challenge. Happy birthday!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm glad you're able to spend your birthday in NYC! It's definitely one of my favorite cities here in the States. They have amazing foods. Next to Tokyo, NYC has the best sushi restaurants in the world. If you're able to come back, I would recommend visiting NYC during the holiday season. All Christmas lights will be in full display, and it feels magical around that time of the year.
