Good job. You made it look easy. I had difficulty with the bottom fork bolts. They were seized from salt and corrosion. I twisted the nut off a 16mm bolt (that's a fair sized bolt). Drenched them with various penetrating oils, heated them, hammered, twisted and even swore a lot. On one side the bolt finally came out. On the other side I finally just torched the fork and removed the lower control arm. The replacement parts were over $1200 CDN, but it was still less expensive than going to a shop.
I'm also having a difficult time with that bottom fork bolt.. that made it seem too easy but like anything up here ,everything gets rusted and hard to remove.. taking a break for now. Started raining.. guess I will need to get a torch and heat it up.. 🤦♂️
Thank you my Jeep is my pride n joy:) I purchased the Ome HD Heavy duty! rides better than stock Imo. I did do the Pinch Weld mod up front just to be on the safe side and so the tire wont rub while turning full left or right. The pinch weld mod also helps when you go off roading! more Room for tire movement:) & yes the tires are Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs 265-70-17= 31inch tall
Hi there , great vid , really appreciate it. Just bought a 99 gc limited. I have ordered the heavy duty emu kit for it and was wondering what size wheels and tires a guy could reasonably fit after the lift. Don't plan on doing any heavy duty off roading.
I have a 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee I put the 2in lift spacer on it and the front shock seem as if it’s hitting hard too stiff do I need a extended shock or springs what do I need to get a soft ride
That bolt you did at 4min20 sec of video, it's where I'm stuck, put pb blast and wd and still not budging.. b4 using screw driver and hammer was there anything else you did to it prior to it coming out?? Thanks in advance
Hello. Since it doesn't look like you used any strut or coil spacers what so ever, does your WK sit with a balanced height in the front and back? Have you measured from axle up to the bottom of the fender? I hear that this distance averages 21.5-22" with OME HD. I need to decide whether or not to place a 1/4" strut spacer in the front, if the front sits a little lower than the back.
Hi! Yeah I didn't buy a new spacer. Instead I reused the day star spacer. Looking back i should have replaced for a new pair. I have a front end squeeky sounds when going over round abouts and turns. Maybe it's the worn spacers I have. I don't know the measurements. I haven't been able to drive the wk for...well it's still in the shop lol the wk broke down since February of this year
Yeah I don't like how it does look like the front end is lower than the rear end. Once I get my wk back I'll measure. It's getting its solenoid pack replaced😰
Your video says final tightening is done on the ground. Do you mean tightening of the wheel lugs? If not which bolts and how did you access them with the tires back on the vehicle. Thanks , installing this lift in the next week or two.
The upper control arm and any of the bolts through bushings should be tightened to spec when the suspension is at normal ride height and not when hanging down.
it took 4-6 hours to do:) hopefully this vid helps you get the job done quicker than we did. would of been helpful for us, but couldnt find a vid so we made one:)! cheers
nate davis, my 265/70/17 duratracs did rub just a lil bit on full lock left/right on turns I have to pinch weld mod to clear the tires nothing but a little trimming, a hammer, & black rustoleum would get the job done :)
Hi Elain, I am really having a hard time removing the lower bolt on the lower cleves that holds the lower part of the shock. Did you guys really have to hammer it hard to get it out?
o yeah. I've heard terrible stories of the bolt and lower clevis being very difficult to remove. Luckily, in my case, we sprayed that area a couple days before. Used a little heat and a big hammer to get it out. I've heard stories from other wk'ers that they've even stripped the bolt because its so seized in to it
+Neil Yakuza Hi great video .I would need some help... I got a new strut coil assembly and i have to install RUSTY S 2,5 in LIFT mount on top but i broke the end of the strut TIP where you insert the key to stop it from turning so the NUT comes out. Can you please give me some edvice THANKS
choco caroche What is your Lift goal? Is it only a 2.5 suspension lift kit? or A modified Old Man Emu lift kit (approximate of 3inch lift)? In this Video, we are replacing the DayStar 2inch Budget Boost lift kit for a new 2.5 OME suspension lift kit. My Jeep wk was around 85xxx mileage with factory parts that haven't been replaced. I Would love to have a bigger lift on my wk, but with the options available, I opted out for the best bang for the buck. Plus, I didn't want to funk with the geometry of the Jeep Grand Cherokee WK and mess it up simply because I wanted a little more of a lift onto the Jeep
+Elaine Chu N I bought RUSTY S LIFT REAR 2.5 PUCKS FRONT 1,5 but i PAYED FOR 2.5in but He said that in the end of the installation will be 2.5 Witch was not true ,and it cost me A GRAND TOTAL OF 260.00 PLUS DUTIES 100.00 - IT CAME TO 360.00 CAD Thats the deal in CANADA.... A WASTE OF DINEROOOO
awesome grand cherokee, do you follow any jeep forums? theres a few good ones out there with awesome jeepers and they give my bunch of ideas for my WK im sure youd like them as well. cant wait to put the OME lift on my jeep!
Why did you go with the JK mopar wheels instead of keeping the stock chrome ones, aren't they the same size, or is there a difference in back spacing or something? About to do the same to my WK.
Hello i was wondering is your jeep even in height on all 4 corners ? Cause mine is not ever from the wheelwell to the ground are First location Front Left 36in Front Right 36.75in Rear Left 35in Rear Right 35.50in and Second location i measured Front Left 36.75in Front Right 37in Rear Left 34.75in Rear Right 35.25in
The old man emu lift kit does make the rear look saggy. I am at 22'' Front and 22'' Rear hub fender measurement. Those aren't your hub fender measurements is it? what lift>
i measured from the lip of the fender to the ground. maybe i have diferent measure because i dont have the ome shocks i have bilstein 5100 shocks but i am thinking to get the ome shocks.
+Drossu Razvan How do you find the Bilstein 5100 struts? Ride quality etc. Firm or flowing? Also have you adjusted them to the highest setting (if they are the adjustable model of course).
hello my name is william. first of all thanks for the vids! fyi im totally miminicng you wk! love it. this is my question. i purchased a ome hd lift installed, larger tires etc. however my 4low wont engage the dash now says service 4wd? did this happen to you? my wk 05 hemi. thanks and hello from mendocino county.
I will say the lift kit itself isn't hard to install. but people that have never worked on a vehicle from the north have no clue on the problems rust causing in a job like this.
Dealing with my wk when I had a broke all four wheel bearings. Removing the hub assembly was the literal definition of Satan, rust made it so bad that I was doing 1 hub a day almost
+Kaegis The Hd springs makes the ride pretty firm, but I like it. It flex good to me. I haven't really taken the jeep on rough trails so Idk if i can answer that

Just now finding this but still very helpful. Looking to do this to our 06 JGC limited 5.7.
Looks great. Props for doing it yourself. I lack patience and it is a must here😂. Had a shop do it for me. It was not cheap!!
LuisManuelHdez lol did you get front and rear installed at a shop or just the front, how much did they charge
Did you have to upgrade your upper control arms
Thank you my Jeep is my pride n joy:) I purchased the Ome HD Heavy duty! rides better than stock Imo. MsElaine what is the pinch weld mod
Thanks Elain, I will try the heat on that Wonderful BOLT.
Most of the bolts/nuts are not reusable and should've been replaced. Factory torque specs are required as well, which were not addressed.
Excellent work, i want to do this on my WK. Thanks!

I did mine 2 weeks ago
What color is this? Hard to tell by the video, it looks great though.
NYxLCA The Jeep? Its a weird color. Chrysler calls it Dark Khaki
Did you do upper control arms at some point
Yeah I upgraded to the Jba upper control arms
nate davis, my 265/70/17 duratracs did rub just a lil bit on full lock left/right on turns
I have to pinch weld mod to clear the tires

Hello, did you keep the Daystar Lift on with the OME Lift? Or just the OME Lift by itself?
OME by itself
awesome grand cherokee, do you follow any jeep forums? theres a few good ones out there with awesome jeepers and they give my bunch of ideas for my WK im sure youd like them as well. cant wait to put the OME lift on my jeep!
Looks awesome
How does it ride on the street ?
Why did you go with the JK mopar wheels instead of keeping the stock chrome ones, aren't they the same size, or is there a difference in back spacing or something? About to do the same to my WK.
Christopher Covington Simply because I like the look of a beefier wheel/rim than the ones that came stock/factory
Very nice!
Thank You:)
great video. how long did it all take start to finish? thanks for sharing.
Hello i was wondering is your jeep even in height on all 4 corners ? Cause
mine is not ever from the wheelwell to the ground are

Thanx for sharing, I will do this !, Where you bought your kit ?
Chris Kelley at crawloffroad.net or Jonathan Knapp at thesteelarmadillo.com :) !
Now that you have had it for five years. How is the drive? Better or worse than the stock stuff? Also how thick are your spacers?
It has gotten better. I do not have the spacers anymore. I no longer have the Jeep either. I now have a Tacoma
hello my name is william. first of all thanks for the vids! fyi im totally miminicng you wk! love it. this is my question. i purchased a ome hd lift installed, larger tires etc. however my 4low wont engage the dash now says service 4wd? did this happen to you? my wk 05 hemi. thanks and hello from mendocino county.

Do you remember what size sockets you used ?

Nice encouraging vid
How much did it lift the rear?
I will say the lift kit itself isn't hard to install. but people that have never worked on a vehicle from the north have no clue on the problems rust causing in a job like this.
Dealing with my wk when I had a broke all four wheel bearings. Removing the hub assembly was the literal definition of Satan, rust made it so bad that I was doing 1 hub a day almost
Lol right I am a Ford tech up north lol they think they need air tools down there
GW_Millkkyman my wk bearing was hell also
Hi, how do you find the OME HD ride, very firm? Also does it flex well or too stiff?
+Kaegis The Hd springs makes the ride pretty firm, but I like it. It flex good to me. I haven't really taken the jeep on rough trails so Idk if i can answer that
Did you use an HD or MD OME? Any clearance issues with the 265/70/17? Looks sharp!
